Hogan’s Alley
The Past: 2009
Episode 6 of Class of ’09 takes us back to when the FBI trainee class of 2009 are at a mock robbery, practising what to do during that kind of situation. Daniel helps Ashley take down a “criminal” at one point during the mock robbery, which upsets her.
Later, Hour asks Ashley what is going on between her and Daniel. She tells Hour that they’ve decided to take a break from their relationship as they want to focus on their careers as FBI agents. But Hour tells Ashley that she knows the latter was the one who wanted to take a break.
Hour tells Ashley that Daniel really loves her and that he would quit the FBI training if she wanted to. But Ashley doesn’t want him to, and Hour tells her she never lets anyone do anything for her. Ashley then tells Hour that she doesn’t let anyone inside her heart.
Gabriel and Drew engage the trainees in another mock crime in progress. The police have cornered a couple of robbers, so they enter a theatre and take the people inside hostage. So in this instance, the team is required to rescue the hostages.
The team does just that, and Drew and Gabriel couldn’t be more proud. As they’re dismissed, Daniel tells Ashley he can’t take a break from their relationship anymore. He tells Ashley that it’s either they are in a relationship or separate for good, and since Ashley seems like she wants to break things off, they should do so. Ashley agrees to break up with Daniel for good.
The Present: 2023
Hour visits Ashley at her house and tells her her marriage is over. Ashley asks Hour if she told her husband about her sexuality. Hour tells Ashley she hasn’t told him yet and that she wanted to tell her first that she wants to end her marriage.
Ashley takes Hour through the case she’s working on, and she offers to help her use the system. Later, Hour and Ashley talk about how Hour will tell her husband that she wants to end her marriage because she’s gay.
Hour fears saying anything because of how her parents would react. Ashley tells Hour that she deserves to feel true love, even if just once. That is when Hour finally confesses her romantic feelings toward Hour, and they kiss.
Elsewhere, Amos shows Tayo the system he’s working on. Later, they meet FBI Director Shannon and Warren, an attorney in the FBI, to tell him about the system Amos is working on. Shannon then privately asks Tayo if he trusts Amos, and Tayo tells him he doesn’t, but since he wants the FBI to have a more advanced system, he needs Amos.
Shannon finally agrees to give the system a try and asks Tayo if he’s surprised he agreed to the idea. Tayo tells Shannon that he isn’t that shocked he agreed because he knows he’s sure that it’ll fail, putting an end to his ideas.
Back at his house, Tayo’s mum, who’s visiting, asks Tayo and Vivienne what’s happening between them. She then realizes some tension between them and leaves them alone. Vivienne tells Tayo that he doesn’t notice how much he’s so focused on work that he forgets about his marriage.
Tayo agrees that he is too focused on work and tells Vivienne that he has found a path he will take no matter what. He is talking about bringing Amos’ system to life in law enforcement. Tayo then asks Vivienne to trust him as he takes this path, but she seemingly refuses.
At the FBI headquarters, Hour confronts Tayo about Amos’ system. Amos is integrating Hour’s system with Artificial Intelligence, meaning he’ll be taking full credit for work he hasn’t fully worked on. Tayo asks Hour to allow them to try Amos’ system, but Hour warns that it’ll have significant impacts.
The Future: 2034
Ashley, Hour, Daniel, Murphy, and Senator Spenser are at the hospital with the pastor. Senator Spenser tells the others that she has to tell the pastor’s family what happened. Daniel tells her that the drone acted as if it was intercepting a crime, which is why the pastor was shot. Senator asks if this situation has happened before. Amos was the first one to be caught in this kind of situation, which is why he was shot.
Senator Spenser mentions that this system is now out of control, but Hour believes that it may be out of everyone’s control, including Tayo. Speaking of which, Tayo meets with his team and is mad about what happened to the pastor. His team members tell him that there is no way they could have stopped that drone, so they ask Tayo if they should shut down the system.
Back at the hospital, Senator Spenser and the others try to figure out how to obtain the security camera footage at the church. They want to use this as evidence in their case to shut down the system. Murphy then offers to go there as a police officer and retrieve the footage.
Tayo visits her mum, who’s unwell, and she notices something is troubling Tayo. She tells Tayo that while he changed the world, he lost the person he changed it for – she’s talking about Vivienne. Tayo then tells his mum that he’ll fix things.
Tayo and his men go to the church where the pastor was shot by one of the system’s drones. He finds Murphy making a copy of the security camera footage from the day the pastor was shot. And surprisingly, he lets him.
Later, Murphy is driving to Senator Spenser’s house when the car alerts the team operating the system that Murphy is a threat. The car then automatically takes another route and withdraws the steering wheel so Murphy can’t drive. The car drives itself at high speed, so police officers think Murphy is a criminal. Murphy tries to tell the police that he’s trapped inside the car, but they don’t listen to him.
Murphy shoots the car’s control panel, which raises even more suspicions that he’s a criminal. The car finally stops, and Murphy gets out. He tries to tell the police that he’s not a threat and he’s a cop himself. Unfortunately, he is shot.
The Episode Review
We now know why Hour claimed that Amos stole her system in the 3rd episode. It’s sad to know that Tayo’s drive to create the system in the FBI cost him his marriage. He seemingly wants to do away with the system, and I’m curious how he’ll do it because at this point, this system is too powerful even for Tayo.
I also wonder whether Ashley is actually bisexual because she seemingly has feelings for Hours but is still in love with Daniel.
