Episode 5
Episode 5 of Citadel: Honey Bunny begins in 1992, Belgrade. With the mission completed, Chako and Ludo head back to India. Vishwa then reveals his plan for the Armada – building his own weapons and surveillance program. He plans to eliminate all those who don’t have the same worldview as him.
In 2000, Ludo tells Bunny and Chako that nothing was the same without them. When Vishwa began operations again, he blindly joined. Bunny blames it all on loyalty.
In the palace in South India, Nadia watches movie tapes trying to spot Bunny’s face. Honey decides to finally meet her bedridden father. She tells him she’s raising Nadia to fight men like him.
When his expression shows distaste, she pretends to put a pillow over his face, scaring him before she leaves. Honey then asks her brother to take care of Nadia while she goes off to face Vishwa. She then speaks to Nadia and tells her she has to go. Nadia is upset but lets her mother leave.
Meanwhile, Bunny, Chako and Ludo break into a Citadel tech facility and find out if Honey has contacted them. They find that she hasn’t called yet but Bunny is confident that she will. She does indeed call and speaks to Shaan, while the three men listen in on them. Honey asks for protection in return for the Armada. Shaan agrees and they decide to meet at 2 pm.
Back in 1992, Honey, Bunny and Vishwa get into a car. Honey’s wearing a tracker which allows Shaan and his men to find them. A chase ensues and when the cars crash into each other, Honey takes off with the Armada. Bunny stops Vishwa from shooting her and as a result, Vishwa dismisses him. Bunny goes after Honey and threatens to shoot her. That’s when she reveals that she’s pregnant, leaving Bunny helpless.
Vishwa sends KD after Honey, who has taken over a civilian’s car. KD shoots and the car goes up in flames, leading everyone to believe she’s dead and that the Armada is lost. Vishwa gives up and gets arrested by Citadel. Zooni confronts him, accusing him of killing her husband, the head of Citadel. Zooni is taken aback when he says he doesn’t have the Armada.
In 2000, Vishwa and his partners meet an Italian named Ettore Zani. He’s an arms dealer who wants to join the Foundation. These same partners were the ones who got Vishwa out of the Citadel centre eight years ago.
Honey goes to the meeting place with Citadel but finds Bunny waiting for her there. They fight but Bunny manages to convince her that Citadel is a trap and not safe for her. They drive away and Bunny tells her that Citadel has a traitor, who helped Vishwa escape.
He takes her back to his hideout where she has an awkward reunion with Chako and Ludo, who haven’t quite forgiven her. Ludo finds the person who is contacting Vishwa from inside Citadel. At the end of Citadel: Honey Bunny Episode 5, he brings up an image but we don’t see who it is.
The Episode Review
Citadel: Honey Bunny Episode 5 connects both timelines and focuses primarily on the events in 2000. Honey decides to meet the fight before it comes to her and Prabhu continues to play her with a fierceness that you can’t help but admire.
That scene where she pretends to suffocate her father offers yet another dimension, a more cruel and fascinating one, to her character. On the other hand, the friendship and banter between Bunny and his friends offer some rib-tickling fun amid an otherwise intense plot.
The story feels more grounded now. There’s not a lot of complexity or nuance to the events, I mean, if Ludo and Chako can admit Vishwa was wrong then why not try and understand Honey’s actions? But as a generic spy thriller, it ticks all the standard boxes.
The Citadel traitor adds a good twist although it’s a convenient development that we haven’t heard of before. Even though Vishwa isn’t a very deeply explored character, Kay Kay Menon’s portrayal makes the threat of his character seem real. All in all, a good build-up to the final confrontation.
