Episode 4
Episode 4 of Citadel: Honey Bunny begins with Bunny explaining why he asked Ludo to send all of Vishwa’s files. Bunny says he knows Vishwa reactivated the agency because he’s planning something big. Meanwhile, Honey and Nadia go on the road again. Nadia asks about Bunny and how Honey became an agent. When Nadia asks where they are going, Honey replies that they are going home.
Elsewhere, KD meets Vishwa who is angry that they haven’t caught Honey yet. He keeps praising Bunny instead and KD promises to deliver him and Honey to Vishwa. KD then meets Vishwa’s wife but this is a different woman from the one Bunny met in the past.
Back in 1992, Honey wakes up in a hospital and the doctor tells her she’s pregnant. Rao takes her home and talks about regretting the abortion he and his wife got. While he goes to get some medicine, Honey sneaks a look at the card Rao received from the man at the conference.
She later goes back to the team’s base and notes down the words on the card that she memorised. Another team member translates it to reveal the location of a gallery. Vishwa then speaks with Honey and tells her to stay off-field, in the van with Ludo.
Honey talks to Bunny and reveals her doubts about whether Rao is really the bad guy. Bunny is sure that he is and that stealing the tech is the right thing. She’s about to reveal the sonogram when Bunny says this is not the time to talk about family. She hides the sonogram in her pocket again. When she asks if Bunny is going to kill Rao, he says no.
In 2000, Ludo copies Vishwa’s files at great risk. The rest of the team finds out soon enough and goes after him. Meanwhile, Honey and Nadia reach her original home in South India, which is a palace where the staff addresses her as “Princess.”
Her brother Pratap encourages her to stay longer despite her fraught relationship with her father, who looked down on her for being illegitimate. Meanwhile, Bunny and Chako meet with Ludo at his secret hideout in Mumbai.
In 1992, everybody watches the place where Rao is to have his important meeting — Bunny, Chako, and several of Zooni’s agents as well. Bunny tells Chako about Honey’s doubts. He says that they have thought the same but didn’t have the courage to challenge Vishwa since he was like a father to them.
Their conversation is broken up by Rao’s arrival. He meets a man named Pavel who says his chip can accelerate Rao’s tech. Pavel asks about Charu, Rao’s wife, and he says he doesn’t want to bother her.
When Rao comes out of the building, Bunny grabs him and gets lost amidst a peace rally. This goes against Vishwa’s plan and Honey gets out of the van, inadvertently allowing Shaan to spot her. She eventually corners him and shoots him in the leg.
Bunny gets Rao inside a train and takes the chip. He lets Rao go alive though and Vishwa insists he “finish the job.” As instructed, KD and Chako go after Pavel and kill him. Honey tries to warn Rao but Bunny reaches him first and shoots him. Honey is disturbed by Bunny’s actions.
Vishwa receives the Armada and later gets on a call with men from around the world who call him “Guru.” They discuss how this is a great move for the Foundation and they can finally bring Citadel down. Zooni and Shaan are revealed to be Citadel agents who started the organisation three years ago. Shaan promises to get the Armada back.
When Bunny and Honey finally meet again, Honey is furious that he lied to her about not killing Rao. He tells her he made a mistake bringing her into this family in the first place. She storms off and goes to Citadel, giving them a chance to get the Armada back.
In 2000, Honey goes to an unused room in the palace and finds the Armada, which she had hidden away in a box and Citadel: Honey Bunny Episode 4 comes to a close.
The Episode Review
Citadel: Honey Bunny Episode 4 traces Honey’s transformation, showing us how and why she changed her mind about Vishwa. There’s not a lot of depth to this occurrence, after all, Honey didn’t think twice before joining Vishwa. But Samantha Ruth Prabhu lends Honey a certain authenticity that makes it more believable.
Hearing more about her past, I do feel like a stronger focus on Honey and her character could have taken this story to the next level. And perhaps her royal origins could have been more than a convenient deus ex machina.
Kay Kay Menon does a great job in this episode as Vishwa, who isn’t just a crime boss but someone who built an agency by raising young boys into sharpened tools. His manipulation of his father figure image is compelling, particularly in the repeated scene where he encourages his “sons” to eat the chicken he burnt. Varun Dhawan, in the meantime, stands out more when the brotherly camaraderie between him, Chako, and Ludo is brought out.
The episode also finally reveals that Zooni’s organisation is none other than Citadel. Of course, this reveal was seen a mile away but the show still executes it well enough. Past the halfway point, the straightforward direction of storytelling is definitely serving the show well even as the two timelines keep getting closer to each other.
