This album highlights pain and memories smashed to pieces, and the band in question, try to patch everything back together. The band, Capstan, want to create a joyful life, but in this current climate, it’s difficult for the most joyous person. Their album The Mosaic proves the band is capable of metal and rock sounds, and their lyrics are revealing.

The music is catchy, but also has foundations. Every triggered guitar stroke breaks through with purpose, every drumbeat increases the intensity, and every lyric tells a story, one that isn’t optimistic. Screams are evident too, which add noteworthy sounds.

The record has the power to be a lifeline to many. It will resonate with people who may feel the constraints of isolation, the overbearing feeling of loneliness and hard times, with inflation and the unknown snapping at the world.

‘I Resolve’ begins the record. A strum turns into a full-on throttle, and the vocals rise when they need to. Lyrically, the band tell us that they want peace in such a raging world.

‘Bloom’ opens slowly. A piano embrace is instilled, and the vocals are supreme. Every lyric has meaning, pushing the words to the fore. It’s a sobering track.

‘Dwell’ starts with a slow build-up. The vocals again don’t barge but actually develop. The guitar presence floods in, and the song changes its sequence. That solo creates a great balance.

Capstan is a band searching for clarity in a dark room, but the light will follow them eventually.
