Call It Love – K-Drama Episode 14 Recap & Review

Conversations About Truth

Episode 14 of Call It Love picks back up outside Woo-ju’s old house where Dong-jin has found out the truth. Dong-jin asks Woo-ju why she didn’t tell him sooner. He talks about getting the house back to them but she interrupts him. He should be mad at her and angry about being deceived.

When she asks why he’s looking at her like that, he says it’s because she couldn’t complete taking her revenge. He’s not angry, just sad. She tears up and apologises, and he steps forward and wraps her in a hug.

Through sniffles and sobs, she tells him her family found out everything and they shouldn’t see each other anymore. They slowly let go of each other and Dong-jin walks away.

Sun-woo tries calling Dong-jin but he doesn’t pick up. He then texts asking if Dong-jin is on his way. Dong-jin drives to the fair, thinking about all his moments with Woo-ju.

At the office, the employees put up a poster of the 2022 fair. Ms Baek shows Sun-woo the report of the fair and mentions that Dong-jin hasn’t been in office for a bit. Sun-woo says he’ll make it back in time for their meeting.

Dong-jin, meanwhile, went to the real estate office and found out his mother sold the house. He goes to the house but nobody seems to be home. He’s sitting by the gate when Sun-woo calls and asks him where he is. Dong-jin says he’s on his way. He tries calling his mother but can’t get through.

Hee-ja, it turns out, is at Dae-hong’s camping centre. She wonders what would have happened if she stayed with him. He tells her to ask what she wants to ask and leave. The thing she left with him, he burned it. Hee-ja is shocked and leaves.

At work, Sun-woo tries to get Dong-jin involved in work but he seems distant. Dong-jin says he wants to take some time off. Yuri tells Ms Baek that this seems like a change of heart for Dong-jin. Ms Baek puts it down to exhaustion from the fair.

In the evening, Sun-woo speaks with Dong-jin again, making sure he isn’t leaving the company for good. Dong-jin says he’s got some things to do so he’ll be gone for a week. Sun-woo hopes the couple didn’t break up because he meddled and Dong-jin assures him that’s not the case.

While having a drink with Min-young, Sun-woo rants about Dong-jin’s situation. He’s worried and scared that Dong-jin will never come back to work. Afterwards they can’t find a cab for Min-young and end up walking. Min-young says she’s stopped drinking. She also says this time Dong-jin will be fine as Woo-ju truly cares about him.

At his apartment, Dong-jin is surrounded by papers, searching for something. He tries making a phone call but the number is no longer in service.

Woo-ju leaves home and heads to Jun’s pharmacy, where she’s working once again. Jun gets a call from Hyun-ju, who seems to have gone back to Tongyeon. A flashback shows Woo-ju telling her mother that she told Dong-jin everything and won’t see him again. Her mother emphasizes that she can never be with Dong-jin.

At dinner, Hae-sung is missing and Jun suggests calling her. Ji-gu says it’s better the sisters don’t see each other than fight. Before leaving, Woo-ju tells Jun that she’s looking for a new job and will leave the pharmacy soon. Ji-gu tells Jun that he really wanted to yell at Woo-ju and take out all his anger on her. But he figured he really loves his sister and now feels sorry for her.

Woo-ju sees an article on Best Fairs. Then Hae-sung sends her pictures of a new apartment. She calls her and Hae-sung says they’re going to move. Woo-ju goes to the restaurant where Hae-sung is eating alone.  Woo-ju asks if she has money for them to move. Hae-sung says that with her savings and some help from their mother, they have enough to move and start afresh.

Away from Dong-jin’s home and workplace. Woo-ju says at least if she’s staying here she could run into him every now and then. Before going to bed, Hae-sung tells Woo-ju that there’s no choice, they will be moving.

In the morning, Ji-gu makes breakfast but both the sisters aren’t in their rooms. Dong-jin goes to the campsite and remembers something Woo-ju had said. She’d lied when she said he looked dumb from behind, she’d actually felt like giving him a hug.

Dae-hong is about to leave the campsite when he meets Dong-jin. Dong-jin tells him he hasn’t been able to reach his mother. Dae-hong doesn’t know much. He tells Dong-jin about Hee-ja’s visit and how she left an envelope with him. It’s Woo-ju’s father’s will. When she came looking again, Dae-hong pretended to burn it. Dong-jin realises she gave Dae-hong the will before Woo-ju’s father’s funeral.

After they close the pharmacy for the day, Jun tells Woo-ju he’s going to see Hae-sung. Woo-ju tells him Hae-sung is the kindest person in the family and will forgive him if he apologises three times.

When Woo-ju comes back home, Nam il is waiting outside. He makes her listen to the recording of Hee-ja talking about the will and asks for money in return for it. She asks for the actual will but he doesn’t have it. She tells him to stay away from all of them and not do anything.

Jun sees Hae-sung talk about house hunting with her friends. One of her friends spots Jun. They leave and Jun approaches Hae-sung. He tries to take her out for dinner and ask for an apology. It takes a second but she agrees. While eating, he tells her how he’s sincerely sorry. She accepts.

Later while drinking, she tells him how she felt she was untrustworthy. But then she realised Woo-ju was suffering the most, which is why was able to forgive her but not Jun. She then admits that she’s second to Jun and was jealous of Woo-ju being the first. As she speaks, Ji-gu arrives in the background. Hae-sung continues, telling Jun that they are moving out.

At Best Fairs, Ms Baek thinks she sees Woo-ju outside the office. Woo-ju is indeed there, sighing as she looks at the building.

Dong-jin returns home to find a woman’s pair of shoes by the door. His mother is back and digging into the food from his fridge. She tells him that she’s changed her phone number.

Later, Dong-jin reminisces about the time she started having affairs with married men. While she was away, he would look in the mirror and thank God for not taking after her. He describes how unhappy he was with her. He then tells her he has the will. He wanted to give it to Woo-ju’s family immediately and apologize a thousand times but decided to at least let Hee-ja know first.

Woo-ju calls her mother and tells her there’s a will left by their father, which states that the house is left to them. If they take Hee-ja to the police station, Woo-ju is worried that Dong-jin will continue to suffer and she doesn’t want that. She cuts the call, and a few seconds later Dong-jin turns up and they look at each other.

The Episode Review

Call It Love delivers another decent episode where a lot of the plot development is emotional and it works! Jun and Hae-sung’s conversation about apologies and jealousy throws light on their characters. Hee-ja’s dialogues with Dae-hong establishes their relationship, past and present, quite well.

I do think a conversation between Woo-ju and her mother is missing. We don’t really see her confront the family or even Hyun-ju as a whole. Still, Hyun-ju’s gentle dissuasion shows that maybe, to an extent, she understands.

Overall, a good episode that is leading up to the concluding two episodes with ample emotional gravity.
