Burning Betrayal (2024) Movie Review – A predictable erotic thriller

A predictable erotic thriller

Burning Betrayal is a Brazilian Netflix erotic thriller and mystery drama that follows the story of Babi. On the eve of her wedding day, Babi discovers that her long-time fiancée has been cheating on her for over two years. She calls off the wedding and locks herself away, feeling hurt and betrayed, but eventually picks herself up, goes through a complete makeover and decides to move on.

Babi meets Marco, a handsome judge with skeletons in his closet from his almost-divorced marriage and sparks fly from their first meeting. Marco and Babi start a casual sexual relationship, but with time, it grows even deeper, but threats from within threaten not only their love but also Babi’s life.

Marco has to do all he can to save his newfound love story by opening up about his turbulent past marriage. Babi learns about the betrayal of both her ex-fiancé and best friend, and she risks losing her life over their entanglement with dangerous crime lords.

The whole premise follows the plot of a person who is friendly to the main character as her best friend. Still, on the other hand, he is also a fraudster and will do anything to keep his fraudulent actions going, including attempted murder.

The movie takes viewers on an enticing journey of transformation after experiencing heartbreak and following desire that leads to an enigmatic romance. Burning Betrayal is unapologetic in its exploration of sexual desires, with  scenes of erotic passion between Babi and Marco.

More importantly, the script blends sensual scenes into mystery, suspense, and pursuit of the truth. Unlike other erotic films that only concentrate on the sensual plot, Burning Betrayal manages to give the characters exciting backstories, which makes them even more exciting to watch as the audience tries to figure them out and understand their motives.

Burning Betrayal boasts impressive characters. Marco is a Greek god who is not only on our screens so we can enjoy his impeccable beauty but also a man with a turbulent past and an emotional story. He has a serious career with an aura of enigma and charisma, making him mysterious and alluring.

Consequently, Babi is as captivating as she has a compelling character. She is a thoughtful woman willing to relinquish her extreme desire to build a family with the man she loves. Her transformation after the heartbreak reminds us that true love does not hold us back but helps us grow. The chemistry between these two main characters in Burning Betrayal adds depth and complexity to the script as their sizzling relationship develops steadily on screen.

The supporting cast is equally talented and essential to the story’s development. Thiago is a mystery from the get-go, as it is hard to decipher his cool-as-a-cucumber personality. He seems mysterious, but we do not figure him out until the narrative reveals his true identity. He is ruthless, greedy, manipulative, selfish, and does not care about friendships.

By contrast, Caio is naïve but greedy for money, making it easy for him to be manipulated. On the other hand, Patty lights up the screen with her bubbly character, and she is a loyal friend.

Overall, Burning Betrayal’s pursuit of authenticity and self-discovery resonates with an audience who appreciates the film’s premise of transformation. The narrative evokes more than the alluring emotions of intrigue and desire from the erotic scenes. It tells the story of two broken souls who find a home in each other’s arms.
