Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 is honestly one of the best series of an anime in recent years. Sure there have been some close competition from the likes of Attack On Titan, Spy x Family and Bleach, but it isn’t too early to say that Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 has solidified its position as one of the best anime of 2023.

While season 1 focuses on the orphan Atsushi with mysterious powers finding a place in the Armed Detective Agency meant for detectives with superpowers, the later seasons have focused on their adventures as they go about solving crimes. Season 4 begins with an origin story of the Agency as we see Fukuzawa meeting a young Ranpo while working a case.

As they successfully catch the culprit, Fukuzawa decides to open an agency. We then get the Hunting Dogs arc as the Decay of The Angels, a terrorist organisation which includes Fyodor decides to use the Agency as a scapegoat to take over the world and destroy it.

This fast-paced season is full of incidents and action. There is not a boring moment or a filler episode; even the fluff is fun such as Ranpo annoying Fukuzawa and Poe while it adds to the plot which we realize much later with a light-bulb moment going off.

And, well, technology keeps wowing us as the difference in the animation from season 1 (which was 7 years ago) and the latest as it is remarkable, smooth and fun to watch. Let’s be honest, the art style does make a difference, especially when it comes to action anime!

And with there being several characters, each season focused on a few, season 4 in particular focuses on Ranpo, Fukuzawa, Yosano and Tachihara. We get back stories to all of them along with the origin of the Armed Detective Agency, which is giving Fury launching the Avengers for his lonely foster daughter Natasha. We knew Fukuzawa kept Ranpo around because he secretly adored him but who knew he opened a whole agency to help?

As for the Hunting Dogs arc, they finally animate some iconic characters from the manga like Teruko, Gogol and Sigma. However, we do have a bone to pick as this is the first season where Bungo Stray Dogs didn’t finish off the story arc but ended on a cliffhanger. So do bear that in mind when you watch through!

While, of course, this just makes us hunger for more, we do wish we had gotten a conclusion with a new arc taking over season 5. Thankfully, this time we won’t have to wait for years as the studio have taken mercy on us and announced a new season, which is tentatively set to air in July. The summer cannot come quick enough!
