Breathless (2024) – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Episode 7

Episode 7 of Breathless begins with Moa returning to work only for Pilar to report him to the ethics committee for abandoning Patricia on the operating table. Unbeknownst to her, she is ready to resume her treatment with Moa and when he cancels, she approaches Lluis with the intent of privatizing the hospital.

As for Jesica, she is shocked to see Clotilde, her old medical teacher brought in after being impaled on a fence. Biel helps her without asking and she is touched. However, with Clotilde constantly saying that she is in pain, Jesica assumes that she is addicted to morphine. Clotilde also seems to forget that her daughter and Rodri are dead which Jesica chalks up to narcotics addiction.

She goes through her files and sees that Clotilde has been having a lot of falls and assumes she is self-harming to get her hands on morphine. But when she does a CAT scan, she is shocked to see that Clotilde has a rapid case of Alzheimer’s which is the reason for her injuries.

Biel comes across a downcast Jesica in the on-call room and comforts her. Jesica reveals that when she told Clotilde about her illness, she was relieved as she could finally get over the pain that her daughter was dead by forgetting her. Jesica feels guilty as she too is forgetting Rodri and Biel hugs her.

Meanwhile, Patricia is being treated by Celina, another oncologist and she is not comfortable. She insists that the oncologist check in with Moa before suggesting any treatment. As for Moa, he tries to go through the records to find the report on Patricia’s metastasis but finds nothing. Not only has she destroyed her records, but she has also kicked out Ventura from the Department of Health.

At home, Quique and Oscar continue to hook up and do drugs. But while Quique is on a shift, May’s water breaks and only a stoned Oscar is at the flat to help her. But while trying to call a taxi, he faints. Once they reach the hospital, he runs off but May can hardly stop him as she is in pain.

Quique and Biel check up on her and she admonishes him for enabling Oscar’s drug use. He deflects and teases her as the boys still don’t know who May is dating. However, there is something wrong but Leo insists that May will be fine.

Moa finds Biel in the children’s ward and asks him to support him during the ethics review. However, Biel believes he is in the wrong as his strongest supporter had been his doctor who had been by his side when he had cancer as a kid.

Meanwhile, Patricia is swarmed by people during her chemo session, and Biel sets her up in the kids’ ward. Celina gives Moa the records on the metastasis in exchange for consulting on Patricia’s treatment since he knows her history. He sits with Patricia and she shares that she would have never used his wife against him during the debate.

They bond and she is curious if he ever dated anyone after his wife’s death. They are interrupted by a reporter who takes her photo while she is hooked up to the chemo machine and makes a run for it. But Moa chases him down and grabs the camera. He gives it to Leo to dispose of it.

Moa’s trial takes place the next day and everyone is present including Patricia. He gives Biel a photo of them together, revealing that he was the doctor who had treated him. However, Moa doesn’t defend himself while the rest of the staff claim they were forced to go on strike. When it is Pilar’s turn, she claims Patricia’s illness worsened because of Moa abandoning her.

But when it is Biel’s turn, he reads the letter he had written to Moa on the back of the photo. He had thanked him for taking care of him. He believes that Moa’s suggestion to stop the operation was for Patricia’s sake and the hospital would lose a great doctor.

Elsewhere, May is in extreme pain and Leo is forced to do an emergency C-section. Rocio looks on and is worried when May goes into cardiac arrest. However, Quique and Leo are able to save both May and the child. Rocio asks to check on the child and Quique is shocked as he realises that she is May’s girlfriend.

The hospital clears Moa and Patricia congratulates him. They share a moment and he confesses that he has not been with anyone after his wife’s death. He hopes to be brave and Patricia smiles. Her happiness is short-lived as Ventura arrives and reveals that he has the photo of her chemo.

Turns out, Leo took the photo and threatened to leak it along with news of Patricia’s metastasis. For her silence, Patricia is to stop the plan of privatizing the hospital. On top of it, Ventura also blackmails her into giving him his job back for his silence.

Meanwhile, Quique has not been able to get a hold of Oscar all day. He arrives home to Oscar having a party. He is shocked as everyone is high and having sex. At the end of Breathless Episode 7, Oscar takes meth and asks Quique to join him.

The Episode Review

Breathless Episode 7 truly is wasting Pilar and Jesica despite taking on such talented actresses, especially the veteran Aitana Sanchez-Gijon. A shame since she could have done so much but happens to be relegated to a passive character with empty threats.

And sure, Patricia and Moa have that whole enemies-to-lovers chemistry, but the overarching conflict would have had more impact if he had been clashing with Pilar who is now just seen as that one annoying bee that keeps buzzing around. She isn’t even doing anything to the very grown doctor who is enabling her junkie of a teenage son after threatening to make him pay.

And we are getting a little tired of everyone just talking and talking. This is supposed to be the penultimate episode but where is the action? Where is the suspense? Moa is let free, Patricia is back to square one and the Biel-Jesica-Lluis triangle is barely making any waves. Our only hope for drama depends on May and Quique. Hope they don’t disappoint us either.
