Wish Me Luck

Episode 6 of Blue Box begins with Hina asking Taiki and Chinatsu to explain what’s happening between them. Hina and Taiki head to Taiki’s room, where Taiki explains what’s happening between him and Chinatsu with Hina. Hina understands but wishes Taiki had told her sooner.

Taiki apologizes. Hina drops a stack of manga on Taiki’s lap. She tells Taiki he must endure all the manga she placed on his lap for five hours. Hina promises to forgive Taiki if he does that. Hina departs and ponders this new information she’s obtained from Taiki. We see Hina performing the next day.

Hina’s coach and other students praise Hina’s performance. She spots Chinatsu and gets lost in thought. She tells her friends she’ll be taking a break and departs. Hina says she was close to messing up one of her moves. She wants to practice more so she doesn’t mess up on the main stage.

Hina notices Taiki nearby and chats with him. Taiki treats one of his wounds. Hina notices a good luck bracelet on Taiki’s foot. Taiki tells Hina that Chinatsu gave him this to symbolize their goal of reaching Nationals. Hina departs and reflects on Chinatsu and Taiki’s relationship. While lost in thought, Hina cries and hides.

Hina wants to face her problems alone. Some time passes. Taiki notices Hina’s acting strange and asks Kyo what’s going on. Kyo speculates that Taiki’s upset with him. Internally, Hina wants to keep her distance from Taiki because she argues he doesn’t need her help. Hina thinks it’d be best if she and Taiki kept their distance.

Hina and her friends head off somewhere to practice. After practicing, Hina departs to get a drink, the Vice Principal greets her. The Vice Principal praises Hina for her interview. He wants her to communicate with her father for him. Hina says she’ll try. She departs and reflects on the Vice Principal’s remarks.

Hina doesn’t think she’s special at all. Hina notices Taiki and reflects on what Taiki has with Chinatsu. She wants to get through things on her own. We receive a montage of Hina practicing. Hina leaves practice and notes that she’s improved. Then, a boy crosses her path and knocks Hina to the ground.

Hina twists one of her ankles and reflects on the problems it’ll cause her if it’s truly broken. Taiki arrives and offers to help Hina. Hina tells the boy who accidentally shoved her to the ground and his friend that she’s okay. After those two depart, Hina tells Taiki to leave. Hina doesn’t want Chinatsu to see her and Taiki together.

Taiki tells Hina not to worry about that. He’s more concerned about Hina’s health. Taiki wants her to prioritize herself over others. Taiki takes Hina to the school’s nurse’s office. The nurse tells Hina her wound isn’t severe and should be healed soon. The nurse leaves and Taiki and Hina chat.

Hina tells Taiki that there’s someone she can’t defeat at this rate. She lists this person’s qualities, but Taiki argues Hina is a natural-born fighter. Hina gets embarrassed and starts arguing with Taiki. Taiki and Hina depart from the nurse’s office. Hina wants Taiki to wish her the best of luck.

Taiki wishes Hina good luck with the prefectural qualifier matches. Some time passes. Hina secures victory at the prefectural competition. Taiki and Hina discuss the latter’s victory. Taiki is happy to see Hina in a better mood. Kyo reflects on the situation. He wonders how Chinatsu will respond.

Taiki returns home and bumps into Chinatsu. Chinatsu tells Taiki she won the prefectural qualifiers. Taiki speaks fondly of Hina and departs. Chinatsu reflects on Taiki’s words and wonders if something is happening between Hina and Taiki. Chinatsu ponders and promises she’ll only focus on basketball.

The episode ends with a shot of someone’s shoes.

The Episode Review

This episode delved into Hina’s character more than some fans anticipated. In it, we see Hina reflecting on her goals and Taiki and Chinatsu’s relationship. Many will resonate with Hina and her reasons for looking out for others. At the same time, many will side with Taiki and his stance on the matter.

While being selfless has its benefits, prioritizing oneself is also important. Moreover, some will like how matters seemingly resolved between our trio. Instead of the usual love triangle drama that unfolds in shows like this, this scenario was handled maturely. At the same time, the episode’s finale alludes to something more.

Seeing Chinatsu contemplate things between Hina and Taiki could lead to her growing distant from Taiki. This results in some interesting drama. But all in all, this was a thought-provoking and relatable chapter of Blue Box
