Blood Free – K-Drama Episode 7 Recap & Review

Another Mole in BF

Blood Free Episode 7 begins with Chae-woon and Hoe-sung chasing the suspicious man they saw in the previous episode. Hoe-sung gets stabbed and the police mistakenly grab Chae-woon. In his desperation to catch the culprit, something activates inside his body and he breaks the handcuffs on his wrists, fighting off the police.

Ja-yu gets notified that Hoe-sung has died and Chae-woon has been arrested. She gives her secretary Hae-deun some instructions. But we then see Hae-deun go to a parking lot and calls Seonu Jae’s father, Seonu Geun. She asks about a man called the Engineer who killed Hoe-sung. Hae-deun wants to run away but Geun tells her to stay put. Ja-yu is going to feel utterly betrayed at this one.

Elsewhere, the Engineer sets fire to a garage and wipes his prints from a hotel room. Seonu Geun’s men look for him but he escapes, disguised as a woman. Geun calls Seonu Jae, who speaks to the police chief. That’s when he learns about Chae-woon’s superhuman strength. Jae even gets a video of the footage.

Hae-deun then goes to Hoe-sung’s house and finds his younger brother there. Meanwhile, Ja-yu comes to the police station. She’s cleared Chae-woon’s murder charges but he’s still in trouble for assaulting the police. They then discuss who could have leaked the bodyguard’s location to the murderer. Ja-yu suspects Seo Hui. Chae-woon also hints that he’s going to stop working for her. Before she leaves, he whispers something to her.

She then meets with the police chief. She watches the dashcam footage and records everything through her AI glasses, sending it to the headquarters where On San watches it. Through CCTV footage from the AI Yeongsil, On San puts together an image of his face.

He finds report of a car that was set on fire and conveys the same to Ja-yu, who tells the police. Seo Hui arrives at the lab and On San shows him the gap in the sensor suits through which he was stabbed. Hui notices something else on the screen but On San quickly closes it.

Chae-woon is let go from the police station. But it’s not Ja-yu who let him out. A car picks Chae-woon up and takes him to meet Seonu Jae. He’s interested in what BF did to Chae-woon. Instead, Chae-woon talks about Kir and how his family is living a good life abroad through a special visa.

Chae-woon insinuates that Jae tried to kill Lee Mungyu due to his stand against synthetic meat. When Jae denies it, Chae-woon accuses his father Seonu Geun instead. Jae is incensed and attacks Chae-woon. Naturally, it doesn’t go well and Jae’s nose ends up bleeding. Chae-woon realises he has haemophilia.

Just as Chae-woon is leaving, Ja-yu arrives. She and the prime minister speak privately and Jae brings up the BF technology inside Chae-woon. Ja-yu admits she has cultured human organs and agrees to show it to Jae if he agrees to revise the bioethics law. But Ja-yu wants it to be equal for everyone while Jae only wants it for the rich. Outside, Chae-woon hears the whole conversation. When Ja-yu doesn’t budge, Jae threatens to arrest and dissect Chae-woon. Ja-yu dismisses it and leaves.

In the car on the way back, Ja-yu confirms that the mole is Jeong Hae-deun. This was the suspicion that Chae-woon had whispered to Ja-yu. After this, On San told Hae-deun the suspect was found and then caught her in the act of hurriedly contacting someone.

Now, Ja-yu, Chae-woon, Seo Hui, and On San interrogate Hae-deun. She insists she’s innocent. Chae-woon questions her then. He says that she made sure to hire Chae-woon, thereby revealing his own involvement in spying on Ja-yu. It was always about overtaking BF and not about finding the terrorist who attacked Lee Mungyu. Chae-woon then uses his newfound strength to try and force the truth out of Hae-deun but Ja-yu stops him at the end of Blood Free Episode 7.

The Episode Review

Blood Free Episode 7 takes the tension to a higher level, with Seonu Jae openly vying for BF’s technology. Of course, Ja-yu stands her ground and it’s great to see her stick to her morals. She wants the cultured organs to improve human life all around while Seonu Jae just wants it for himself. The scene at the police station paralleled with On San suing Yeongsil was executed really well. The sleek editing makes it a fun watch and emphasizes just how far BF’s technology is.

The reveal of Hae-deun being a spy was an unexpected twist and hopefully, we’ll find out more about what she has against Ja-yu in the following episodes. Chae-woon, for the most part, deals with his new muscle power and hearing this episode. If it weren’t for the death of Hoe-seung it would have been comical to watch his surprise at his own strength.

The way he puts everything together in the last few seconds, connecting the dots between Hae-deun’s role as a spy and his own, makes things more intriguing. His coercion of Hae-deun is out of character though and I wonder how far Chae-woon is okay to bend his morals. Either way, now that his secret has been revealed, it will be fascinating to see the effect on his relationship with Ja-yu.
