The Manhunt
Episode 6 of Blood Coast begins with us over at Murillo’s hideout. The entire team are ready to head in but with Lyes’ daughter in there, things are more complicated than before. However, they’re not alone. Other cops show up and immediately engage in a shootout.
When Lyes and the gang get involved, Murillo escapes on his motorbike. At the house, Lyes heads in with Alice and they find Fanny and her daughter alive, hiding in the bath. They’re saved from this ordeal and taken to the police station to get checked out. Unfortunately, Fanny is to be arrested, given the international arrest warrant against her. Zoe is to stay with Armand for now. Lyes speaks to him outside and reassures him to do the right thing for Zoe, pointing out how stupid it was for him to get mixed up with Murillo and take her to the hideout.
Franck Murillo meanwhile, is still on the run with the Indian and both go into hiding separately. Lyes and Alice want to use Ali as bait to lure them out of hiding. After a frosty encounter with the District Attorney, the group head out to arrest Ali Saidi. He’s been waiting for this and he willingly goes with them without a fight. However, he still has his wildcard in play – Tobias.
Tobias poses as an orderly and after slitting the throat of an officer outside, heads inside the room to kill Aslan. In fact, Murat is also killed too, having been found hung in his cell the next day. When the Commissioner finds out, she warns that this transfer plan is not going to work, given how hellbent Ali is on revenge.
Who killed Lucas Murillo?
So what of Lucas Murillo’s shooting? Well, according to the bar owner, Ali Saidi was nearby and just having a coffee. There were kids behind him playing football, joking and laughing about the game. However, men in ski masks showed up and sprayed bullets all over the place. Ali tried to retaliate, firing in the opposite direction to Lucas. It now becomes clear that it wasn’t Ali who shot Lucas… it was the Indian. He’s the one who was inside that car, and Audrey finds this out through the same bullets being used by the Indian.
Murillo has been used as a puppet for the Indian all this time, as he intends to take over for himself while using Lucas as collateral damage to get what he wants. Now though, Mrs Murillo rings her son and informs Franck that the Indian is responsible.
How is the Indian captured?
Bakari, under the guidance of Tatoo, decides to use the Indian to bait him out of hiding. Bakari mentions that he knows where Ali’s stash is… but it comes at a price. After handing over some cash, they show up at the spot and immediately find police closing in around him. Joining the Indian are a whole bunch of gang members whom he originally forced into joining him.
Lyes and his team take Indian inside and point out what they’ve figured out; all the details surrounding the Indian worming his way into the business and using both crime bosses as a way of starting a war and profiting from the remains. Arno heads outside by himself with the Indian but ends up at gunpoint by the other gang members.
With him taken aside, they suddenly spray the Indian will bullets and leave him for dead. Arno is shocked as he watches the bloodshed before him, especially as the youngsters take off.
What happens to Murillo?
Lyes makes his decision and decides that Arno can go to Miranda and admit everything. In fact, the pair orchestrate a voice recording as if Arno is doing this in secret, with Lyes giving up incriminating details about Ali and their meetings. Specifically how he protected Ali in exchange for information.
That night, Tatoo is shot by Murillo who bolts down the street. Alice Vidal gives chase and eventually shoots him in the back. This is a crucial moment for her but she doesn’t hit the killing blow. In fact, Lyes shows up and puts handcuffs on him, as this whole ordeal is seemingly over.
When the team return to the station, they get a rousing round of applause from the whole team. They’re happy that they’ve managed to solve the case and stop everything. Tatoo is also still alive thankfully and on the mend. They decide to keep quiet about the Indian and what actually happened there, as he’s found in a ditch later on.
What happens with Arno and Tatoo?
The Commissioner speaks to Alice Vidal afterwards and they come to an agreement that she can stay in Marseille with their team. As for Arno, he talks to Miranda and decides to bargain for Tatoo not being fired. He hands over the recording… and then proceeds to beat Miranda down to a pulp.
Arno heads home afterwards and speaks to his wife, apologizing for what’s happened. As for Alice, she heads over to Lyes’ place and finds the unopened letter about Zoe’s parentage. He hasn’t bothered to open it yet as he doesn’t want to know the outcome.
How does Blood Coast end?
In the aftermath of the beating (where Arno is just as bloodied up as his fellow cop), Miranda learns that the DA has made a deal with Ali. They’ve both got their closure and decide to kiss, because of course they do.
The DA and those in charge decide they’re going to make sure Ali Saidi remains free and he’s part of the investigation they’ve been handling. However, they do agree to take down Lyes… with help from Peretto’s statement. The Commissioner is shocked when she learns what’s about to go down, as officers rock up at Lyes’ place, fronted by Miranda, and ready to arrest him.
The Episode Review
In the end we get a rather perfunctory ending to this crime drama, as all the bad guys are killed minus Ali who goes free and presumably back to the top of the crime pyramid. However, we also get a cliffhanger ending and little resolution to Lyes’ drama.
One could argue that he gets his comeuppance at the end for bending the law to his own will, but we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. The ending does hint that we’ve got more on the horizon but whether there’s enough here to warrant that remains to be seen.
The drama involving Lyes and his team has been building nicely across the season and it’s good to see we actually get some resolution to the issues they’ve all been going through, especially Arno.
Overall, the show has done well to keep things interesting and while it’s unlikely to be a stand-out in this field, it’s been an entertaining watch all the same.
