Blink Twice (2024) Movie Review – A chaotic psychological thriller that keeps you hooked till the end

A chaotic psychological thriller that keeps you hooked till the end

Psychological thrillers can either be very well done or a complete mess. But it looks like the 2024 Zoë Kravitz film, Blink Twice is somewhere in the middle with viewers being on two extremes when it comes to their take on the movie.

Blink Twice narrates the story of a tech billionaire Slater King who meets a cocktail waitress Frida at his fundraising gala. Slater invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. As strange things start to happen, Frida questions her reality.

The movie is set on a beautiful island and is shot exceptionally which makes this one a nail-biting thriller. However, the sudden cuts tend to slow down the pace of the film and will confuse viewers as to what is happening.

While the film cannot be discussed without mentioning certain spoilers, Blink Twice makes for a very interesting thriller that ends with a jaw-dropping conclusion. Performances from female characters like Naomi Ackie (playing Frida), Adria Arjona (playing Sarah) and Alia Shawkat (playing Jess) are convincing and stand out leaving you just as scared as them.

As for Channing Tatum, he seems to be having a gala of a time as the billionaire – Slater King. He adds to the comedic aspects of this thriller and does not appear evil or menacing throughout the film which makes the ending all the more shocking. The film gives you very little insight into what is happening on the island and it is best left that way.

The first half of Blink Twice is very well done but there are a few moments in the second half that are slow and makes you want to jump to the ending so the suspense and the mystery behind it all is revealed. Blink Twice has a total runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes and is comparatively short.

The movie starts as a psychological thriller that eventually turns into a suspense drama. There is a severe trigger warning and it is rightfully meant to be viewed by adult viewers. The story ends with various plot twists and an inconceivable ending, leaving you wanting to revisit the beginning to gather more clues that were there all along.

The film is titled Blink Twice but it does not leave room for you to blink. Various details may seem insignificant at first but only when the final twist is revealed do they all start to make sense. Blink Twice is a convincing and nail-biting thriller which makes for a perfect weekend watch at the cinemas.
