Black Out (Snow White Must Die) – K-drama Episode 6 Recap & Review

Episode 6

Episode 6 of Blackout (Snow White Must Die) starts with a flashback from 10 years ago as  Jeong-woo helps pay Bo-young’s school fees without her knowledge to save her from being embarrassed in front of her friends. He also helps Bo-young and Jae-hee from being beaten by a drunk Dong-min. The episode jumps to the present day with Jeong-woo helping Sang-cheol chase a bunch of gangsters away.

Just then, Sang-cheol gets a text from the police department about Dong-min’s illegal and sudden release from prison. Just then, Dong-min calls Jeong-woo asking to meet him at his house. Sang-cheol tries to warn Jeong-woo but he leaves to meet Dong-min. The cop follows after Jeong-woo. At the same time, Dong-min enters Jeong-woo’s house with a gun while Choo-ho keeps watch outside.

Jeong-woo goes inside his house and tries to talk to Dong-min. He reminds Dong-min of the years of torment that Bo-young had to live with because of his alcohol problem and the domestic abuse of Jae-hee. This further infuriates Dong-min and he points the gun at Jeong-woo. Jeong-woo swears that he did not kill Bo-young and asks Dong-min to shoot him. Dong-min aims the gun at Jeong-woo but misses.

Sang-cheol who arrived at the scene calls out to Jeong-woo. Dong-min manages to escape the house from the rare exit and enters Choo-ho’s car. Meanwhile, Gu-tak introduces Ha-seol to his younger son and Su-oh’s brother – Geon-oh. Geon-oh does not speak to Ha-seol as she greets him as she leaves to go back home.

Sang-cheol dresses the wound on Jeong-woo’s forehead and states that he will stay the night to guard him. Geon-oh asks Gu-tak about Su-oh and learns that he is in the hospital after another episode of epileptic seizures. Gu-tak asks Geon-ho to leave town and threatens him against meeting Jeong-woo or anyone else.

At the same time, Young-sil and Hyung-sik return from dinner. Young-sil asks her husband about the threatening text and warns him about ruining her upcoming election campaign. The next morning, Sang-cheol wakes up in Jeong-woo’s house and finds the bullet that Dong-min fired at him. He spots some kids vandalising Jeong-woo’s house and shoos them away.

When Jeong-woo returns home, Sang-cheol asks him if he is okay with being bullied and attacked by the villagers. He asks Jeong-woo to skip town but the latter claims that he needs to stay back to find justice for his friends and his mother. Jeong-woo asks Sang-cheol to have the case reopened because he wants to seek justice for his dear friends. Sang-cheol tells Jeong-woo that they need to find new evidence to reopen the case.

Jeong-woo looks through his past photos and tells Sang-cheol about a bag that Bo-young took everywhere during high school. The two decide to look for the bag. On the other hand, Gu-tak goes to Geon-oh’s room and finds bottles of alcohol. He wakes Geon-oh up, asking him to return abroad at the earliest and never return.

Geon-oh reads a news article about Bo-young’s remains and gets upset. At the same time, Jung-sook settles Ha-seol’s dues and fires her. When Ha-seol tries to insist, Jung-sook reveals that Gu-tak had asked for her to be fired. Ha-seol visits Gu-tak’s house and meets a drunk Geon-oh there. Geon-oh is drinking out of a wine bottle and offers Ha-seol a drink which the latter refuses.

He is curious to learn that she is Su-oh’s friend and asks Ha-seol for a favour. Jeong-woo visits Bo-young’s house and Jae-hee slaps him upon seeing him at the door. He enters the house behind Jae-hee and asks for the purple backpack she carried everywhere. Jae-hee tells Jeong-woo how his mother – Geum-hee helped her in trying times throughout her life and Jeong-woo killed her daughter.

Jae-hee mentions how she could not decide between thanking Geum-hee or hating her for what Jeong-woo had done. Jeong-woo promises that he did not kill Bo-young but Jae-hee has a breakdown and asks him to leave town. She tells Jeong-woo that she will take care of Geum-hee and asks him to leave town at the earliest.

At the same time, Choo-ho tries to ensure that Dong-min is not arrested. Dong-min states that Jeong-woo would never report him. At the police station, Sang-cheol reads out Bo-young’s autopsy report and states that she possibly suffered from sexual assault after findings suggest a pelvic fracture.

Hee-do argues that the fracture could have been caused due to other reasons and reminds Sang-cheol that the body had been decomposing for the past 11 years. Sang-cheol is dissatisfied and takes the report to Gu-tak. He claims that the missing panties and pelvic fracture indicate sexual assault.

Gu-tak confirms with a forensic expert who states that the findings on Bo-young’s autopsy report are not conclusive enough to reopen the case. Sang-cheol tells Gu-tak about Dong-min trying to kill Jeong-woo and asks why he was released from prison. Gu-tak tells Sang-cheol that Dong-min’s confession has been recanted because it was made under the influence of alcohol.

Gu-tak asks Sang-cheol to focus on helping Bo-young’s family hold a proper funeral for her instead of trying to reopen the case. At the same time, Jeong-woo asks Na-kyeom and Min-soo to help him. Geon-oh leaves home to meet Jeong-woo and breaks down about seeing his vandalised house. On the other hand, Young-sil asks her secretary to help her find the sender of the threatening messages to Hyung-sik.

At the hospital, Ha-seol meets Hyung-sik and asks him to let him see Su-oh. Hyung-sik is reminded of his past conversations with Da-eun when Ha-seol reveals that she lives at the Muchen Garden restaurant. Just as Ha-seol leaves the doctor’s cabin, Hyung-sik gets another text from his “victim” who accuses him of killing her 11 years ago.

Hyung-sik suspects Ha-seol to be the sender of the text and offers to let her see him that evening. Min-soo has a meal with his parents and Dong-min as he tries to find Bo-young’s backpack. Geon-oh visits Byeong-moo’s house and meets his father – Heung-soo there. He asks Heung-soo to call Byeong-moo home and the latter unwillingly complies.

Sang-cheol, on the other hand, talks to the teachers in high school and asks them about Bo-young or Da-eun. He runs into Jeong-woo there who is also trying to talk to his teachers. Sang-cheol tells Jeong-woo that they were running short on time in trying to have the case reopened before Bo-young’s funeral.

Byeong-moo shows up at the restaurant with Jae-hee. He asks Dong-min to speed up Bo-young’s funeral but Heung-soo shows up there and tries to drag Byeong-moo out before Geon-oh can arrive. Geon-oh shows up there just in time and talks to Dong-min about Bo-young’s death. He apologises for not showing up sooner as Min-soo and Byeong-moo try to stop him from saying more.

Geon-oh starts laughing and the two take him out of the restaurant. He states how happy he is about Min-soo and Byeong-moo’s achievements and leaves. Inside the restaurant, Choo-ho asks Heung-soo to calm down and act as if nothing had happened to avoid being suspected by Dong-min. Gu-tak tries to book a ticket to have Geon-oh fly back to the USA but learns that Geon-ho was prohibited from leaving the country because he was caught dealing drugs.

Jeong-woo shows up at Gu-tak’s office and asks him for another rundown of the case. Gu-tak states that the spanner that was used to kill Da-eun was found in Jeong-woo’s room and that his shoes have blood and mud, suggesting that he left the house that night despite the heavy rain. Jeong-woo tells Gu-tak that he never wore the shoes as they were presented to him by his mother. He asks about Bo-young’s purple backpack.

Jeong-woo shocks Gu-tak when he asks what Su-oh and Geon-oh were upto on the night of the murders. Hee-do gets riled up and kicks Jeong-woo out of the station. On the other hand, Sang-cheol tries to talk to the homeroom teacher in private. He learns how Jeong-woo was a diligent student as well as a very good friend to Bo-young.

That evening, Young-sil’s secretary follows after Hyung-sik who takes Ha-seol in his car. Meanwhile, Geon-oh goes to the greenhouse and looks for something buried in one of the potted plants. He finds a suitcase there and takes it to Jeong-woo’s house. At the same time, Gu-tak finds that the suitcase is missing from the greenhouse and asks Choo-ho and Heung-soo to look for Geon-oh.

Contrastingly. Geon-oh goes inside Jeong-woo’s house and apologises to him. He points at the suitcase inside which Jeong-woo finds the purple suitcase. The episode ends with Jeong-woo asking Geon-oh if he killed Bo-young.

The Episode Review

This episode has me left with my jaw dropped because of the insane amount of plot twists we are seeing. Clearly, Gu-tak, Choo-ho and Heung-soo know what happened that night. This is also why Byeong-moo was being so squeamish when Sang-cheol mentioned Bo-young being sexually assaulted.

It is possible that Geon-oh sexually assaulted Bo-young and accidentally killed her with the help of his friends. We also know that Hyung-sik was sexually/romantically involved with Da-eun. It is possible that it was he who killed Da-eun and now Ha-seol could be in danger of getting in the car with him. It could also mean that Jeong-woo is really innocent in this and was blamed for nothing which makes me pity him all the more.
