Episode 3
Episode 3 of Black Out (Snow White Must Die) starts with a flashback from when Jeong-woo was in high school. Byeon-moo asks Jeong-woo to take the boys from his group on a car ride. After taking a few rounds in the car, Jeong-woo tells his friends that he is low on fuel and decides to return to the warehouse to park the car.
However, Jeong-woo hallucinates being in the car by himself and sees Bo-young standing in front of the car as he is about to crash into her. The episode then jumps to the present day as Sang-cheol follows Jeong-woo around the street as he tries to gather clues about his mother’s accident.
Jeong-woo meets the shopkeeper who sold his mother the shirt and asks to see the CCTV footage of the event. The shopkeeper refuses to share the footage with Jeong-woo and he leaves the store dejected. Sang-cheol observes this and tries to follow after Jeong-woo to see where he is going when Jeong-woo spots him. He tells the cop that he is sure that his mother will not attempt suicide and shows the cash receipt from the shirt store.
Just then, Jeong-woo gets a call from Na-kyeom who tells him that she had shifted Geum-hee to a private room in the hospital. He leaves to visit his mother and asks Sang-cheol to stop chasing after him. Sang-cheol returns to the bridge and tries to find more clues to Geum-hee’s accident. He concludes that Jeong-woo’s murder case was somehow connected to that of his mother’s accident.
Meanwhile, Na-kyeom picks out a script for a movie titled “The Snow White” which is supposed to be shot in Mucheon. At the same time, Su-oh goes to a basement inside his greenhouse and picks out an old painting. On the other hand, Heung-soo panics when he sees that Geum-hee is not in her room.
The CEO of the agency that manages Na-kyeom visits her at the hospital. She is shocked to learn that Na-kyeom has picked up a script that will be shot in Mucheon to be close to her friend whose mother was in the hospital. That afternoon, Ha-seol visits Su-oh and talks to him about their upcoming hiking trip.
Su-oh seems disinterested and refuses to show Ha-seol the painting he had taken out of the basement. Ha-seol is upset and decides to leave. On her way to visit Geum-hee, Ha-seol is reminded of the time she was a resident medic at a hospital. She recalls how the doctors treated a surgery carelessly that caused the death of a patient on the surgeon’s table.
Present-day Su-yeol looks back on the incident and thinks how peaceful her present life is. Ha-seol is taking a round around the village when she sees the dog playing with the human bone. She snaps a photo of the bone and asks the dog owner where it was found. On the other hand, Jeong-woo is in the ICU with his mother when Heung-soo shows up there.
Jeong-woo tries to coax the truth about the incident out of Heung-soo but the latter refuses to respond. He asks Jeong-woo to disappear from their lives. Sang-cheol tries to solve the case of Geum-hee’s accident by retracing her steps from the day. He goes to the various stores that Geum-hee visited or passed by and tries to find clues.
Sang-cheol learns that Bo-young’s mother – Jae-hee had her eyes on Geum-hee on the morning of her accident. Meanwhile, Jeong-woo follows Heung-soo and arrives at Bo-young’s house. He recalls how he had helped Bo-young in the past when she wanted to get away from her drunkard father.
Present-day Jeong-woo spies on Bo-young’s parents as Heung-soo goes inside to drink with his friend. Sang-cheol uses Byeong-moo’s help to talk to Jae-hee and sneakily looks through her recent calls during the time of the accident. He finds that Jae-hee had called her husband – Dong-min just before the accident.
At the same time, Heung-soo confronts Dong-min for pushing Jeong-woo off the overpass. He claims to have seen him push Jeong-woo’s mother with his eyes. The comment leaves Choo-ho shocked. On their drive back, Choo-ho asks Heung-soo to report Dong-min to the cops. Sang-cheol talks to his team about the case and asks the detectives to find another clue to continue the investigation.
Byeong-moo finds CCTV footage showing Dong-min outside the shirt store that Geum-hee was at. The cops revisit the CCTV footage from the area and conclude that Dong-min was chasing after Geum-hee.
That night, Dong-min collects the jacket and shoes he wore during the incident and tries to dispose of them. Jeong-woo, who had been lurking around the house calls Sang-cheol to inform him. He confronts Dong-min for trying to kill his mother. Jeong-woo asks Dong-min to kill him and questions why he had tried to punish his mother instead.
Just as Dong-min is about to attack Jeong-woo, the cops show up and arrest him. Sang-cheol tells Jeong-woo that the people of the town hate him a lot. Gu-tak learns that Dong-min had tried to kill Geum-hee and grows concerned. That night, Ha-seol calls Byeong-moo to tell him about the human bone and takes it to the police station.
Jeong-woo overhears the conversation between Ha-seol and Byeong-moo about the bone being found in the neighbouring village. She joins Jeong-woo as he visits the drain that the bone was found in. Contrastingly, Sang-cheol tries to get Dong-min to confess to pushing Geum-hee off the overpass.
Dong-min starts acting up and asks Gu-tak to be called in instead. Knowing Dong-min’s drinking problem, Sang-cheol tries to rile him up by drinking alcohol in front of him in the interrogation room. Heung-soo and Choo-ho accompany Jae-hee at the police station where they ask Gu-tak to let them meet Dong-min. Gu-tak asks them to go home and refuses to help them out as their friend, infuriating Jae-hee.
On the other hand, Ha-seol leaves Jeong-woo to look inside the drain that the bone was found in. Sang-cheol spends the night drinking with Dong-min, trying to get him to confess. Dong-min eventually starts talking about Bo-young. He claims that Jeong-woo is a psychopath who is acting so normal after killing his daughter.
That night, the parents gather at Bo-young’s house to try and find a way to save Dong-min. Ha-seol waits for Jeong-woo to return from the drain but follows after him when he does not come back. When Jeong-woo exits the drain, Ha-seol asks him about the case.
Jeong-woo reveals that he is still being hounded by the case from a decade ago despite being innocent. She leads him to a manhole nearby that could also lead to the drain. Jeong-woo enters the manhole and looks inside.
At the same time, Sang-cheol tries to coax a confession out of Dong-min. A flashback shows Dong-min getting upset with Geum-hee for treating Jeong-woo with a meal and a new shirt. He points out that Jeong-woo had killed his daughter and asks Geum-hee to stick to her words by abandoning Jeong-woo. The two argue the overpass and Dong-min pushes Geum-hee back.
Present-day Dong-min confesses to pushing Geum-hee from the overpass accidentally. Inside the manhole, Jeong-woo finds human remains as well as a school uniform with a name tag – Shim Bo-young. Ha-seol calls Byeong-moo to tell him about Jeong-woo entering the manhole. Sang-cheol overhears the conversation and goes there to check up on Jeong-woo.
Ha-seol is shocked to hear Jeong-woo’s screams from inside the manhole as he apologises to Bo-young’s remains for letting her run away that afternoon a decade ago. Jeong-woo breaks down inside the manhole. The cops, including Hee-do and Gu-tak, are alerted about the incident. Ha-seol calls her boss – Jung-sook to tell her about Bo-young’s remains.
Jung-sook wakes Jae-hee up to tell her about Bo-young. She misunderstands the comments and assumes that the cops have found her daughter alive.
At the same time, Sang-cheol enters the manhole and finds Jeong-woo there by Bo-young’s remains. Jeong-woo starts getting aggressive with the cop. The episode ends with Sang-cheol trying to bring Jeong-woo back to his senses by holding a gun to his head.
The Episode Review
From what we are seeing right now, Su-oh is very suspicious. Knowing he is mentally handicapped, it seems unlikely for him to be the killer seeing how he has a secret basement in his gallery, it could be possible that he is trying to put up an act. It is also possible that Gu-tak tried to cover up his son’s crime by pinning the blame on Jeong-woo instead.
It is also possible that the bones do not belong to Bo-young and could be that of Da-eun, continuing the mystery behind this drama. For now, we can see that the case from 10 years ago has finally reopened and we will see the truth behind what happened that night.
