Episode 2
Episode 2 of Black Out (Snow White Must Die) starts from the night before Geum-hee’s accident. Ha-seol looks up Jeong-woo’s murder case and concludes that he is a shady man. She goes to visit Su-oh at his art studio and talks about the murder case. Su-oh appears frustrated and uncomfortable and he asks Ha-seol to leave, getting back to working on his painting.
Meanwhile, Jeong-woo goes to his old bedroom after a heartbreaking conversation with his mother. At the same time, Geum-hee breaks down in the living room of the house and recalls a conversation she had with her late husband – Chang-soo. Geum-hee tells Chang-soo that she does not want to leave town even after Jeong-woo was sentenced to 10 years.
The next morning, Su-oh drops off the painting of the warehouse and prompts Jeong-woo to visit the place. Meanwhile, Geum-hee purchases a make shirt on her way back home and gets on the overpass bridge. A man follows after Geum-hee and pushes her off the bridge. She ends up falling on a car which causes a commotion on the street.
The cops are called and Geum-hee is taken to the hospital. Hee-do assigns Sang-cheol to solve the case with Byeon-moo. At the same time, Min-soo is shocked upon seeing Geum-hee in the Emergency Room. The doctor on call asks Min-soo to try getting in touch with Jeong-woo. Min-soo tries calling Jeong-woo but he does not answer the phone. He tries to get in touch with Na-kyeom and informs her about Jeong-woo’s mother’s accident.
At the same time, Jeong-woo has a mental breakdown in the warehouse and causes a fit there. He recalls his high school days with his late friends – Bo-young and Da-eun stating he did not kill them. On the other hand, Byeong-moo’s father – Heung-soo shows up at the police station and opens up his son’s private locker to take something out.
Sang-cheol investigates the scene of the accident and learns that the people of the town assumed that Geum-hee was trying to die by suicide when she fell off the bridge. Min-soo’s parents – Choo-ho and Jung-sook rush to the hospital to check up on Geum-hee. Ha-seol asks to join them but Jung-sook asks her to stay back and take care of the kitchen and clean up.
Su-oh shows up in the kitchen and states that he is going to look for Jeong-woo. Ha-seol joins him and they end up going to all the places that Jeong-woo frequented back in the day. Su-oh ends up going to the warehouse and Ha-seol informs Jeong-woo about his mother’s accident and drops him to the hospital.
At the same time, the cops look at the CCTV footage from the street to learn how Geum-hee fell off the bridge. At the hospital, Jeong-woo meets Min-soo and at the same time, Sang-cheol looks at the CCTV Footage from the scene of the accident. He notices a middle-aged man running on the street in the pouring rain.
Byeon-moo realises that the man in the footage is his dad and tries to divert Sang-cheol and the rest of the police team’s attention away from it by hiding the footage. However, Sang-cheol finds him doing that and tries to remove it from the case. Byeon-moo is asked to call his father in for an interrogation. Furthermore, Min-soo tells Jeong-woo that his mother had suffered a rupture on the back of her head.
Jeong-woo wonders if Dong-min was behind the accident after how he treated him in the kitchen the day before. At the hospital, Gu-tak is present as a chief guest for a ceremony. After the event, he gets a call from work and rushes to the police station. At the same time, Jeong-woo and Byeon-moo’s father – Heung-soo ride the bus back home together.
Heung-soo is awkward around Jeong-woo and takes a cab to the restaurant instead. After work, Min-soo talks to Na-kyeom about the condition that Jeong-woo’s mother is in. At the police station, Byeon-moo pleads with Gu-tak who lets him be a part of the investigation because Heung-soo is not a direct suspect. Heung-soo is brought in for questioning.
Byeon-moo tells Sang-cheol and the team that he knows where his father would be and takes them to the restaurant. At the same time, Bo-young’s parents – Dong-min and Jae-hee as well as Min-soo’s parents – Choo-ho and Jung-sook are at the restaurant discussing Hee-jae’s accident. Jeong-woo shows up there and asks if Dong-min was involved in his mother’s accident.
The argument gets out of hand and Dong-min breaks a glass bottle on Jeong-woo’s head. Ha-seol panics and tries to help Jeong-woo. Jae-hee takes Dong-min away when she hears police sirens approaching the restaurant. Byeon-moo’s father is taken to the hospital for an interrogation. Jeong-woo feels betrayed by his friend’s father.
Later that night, Sang-cheol meets Gu-tak and talks to him about Byeon-moo being involved in the case. He later questions Heung-soo and asks him about his involvement in Geum-hee’s accident. Heung-soo panics during the interrogation when Sang-cheol asks him about his involvement with Geum-hee. The cop calls Jeong-woo a victim when Heung-soo mentions that he is a criminal.
Sang-cheol looks up the investigation files of the double homicide case in Jeong-woo and realises that Geum-hee’s accident was not going to be an easy case. At the same time, Ha-seol talks to Su-oh about Jeong-woo’s murder case. He gets upset again and asks her to leave. On the other hand, Sang-cheol finds Jeong-woo outside Gu-tak’s house and the two argue. Gu-tak invites both men in.
They are shocked to see Byeon-moo and his father inside. Upon seeing Jeong-woo, Heung-soo gets upset and leaves. He refuses to reveal more information about Geum-hee’s accident but the cops know he is hiding something. Gu-tak asks Jeong-woo to be patient and asks him to calm down. Na-kyeom ends up going to Jeong-woo’s house and finds his phone there.
On their way out, Sang-cheol asks Jeong-woo to collect his mother’s belongings from the police station. At home, Byeon-moo tries to talk to his father about the accident but he refuses to chat with him and goes to sleep. When Jeong-woo makes it back home that night, he recalls the fun times he had with his parents 10 years ago.
The next morning, a man walks his dog near the kitchen. The dog picks up a bone that resembles a human bone but the make takes it from the dog and throws it out. Gu-tak offers to take Jeong-woo to the police station. On the drive, Jeong-woo asks Gu-tak if he was able to find the bodies of Bo-young and Da-eun. Gu-tak tells Jeong-woo that it is very difficult for them to find the bodies as Jeong-woo gets off and walks to the station.
Sang-cheol learns how Byeon-moo and Jeong-woo were childhood friends who were connected by their families. He also learns the victims in Jeong-woo’s case as well as their parents were friends too. Jeong-woo makes it back to the station and runs into Detective Kim Hee-do. He is taken back to his past but he goes to look for his mother’s belongings.
Jeong-woo tries to talk to the store owner that Geum-hee was last seen but he kicks him out for being a murderer. The episode ends with Sang-cheol realising just how complicated the case is.
The Episode Review
This show has so much suspense, and the second episode is not as well done as the first. However, this sets the tone for the rest of the show and many details will go unnoticed if Black Out is not watched with great attention.
One thing that I am shocked about is that the bodies of Bo-young and Da-eun are still not found. What if they ran away and wanted to pin the blame on Jeong-woo? However, the random bone found by the dog hints that one or both of the dead bodies could be found very soon.
I feel bad for Jeong-woo and all that he has gone through but Sang-cheol seems like a dependable cop. He knows that all the people connected to the case were hiding many secrets. I would not go so far as to think that Gu-tak is innocent and he might as well be pulling some strings, all thanks to his connection with the Assemblywoman’s husband.
