The Great Beyond
Big Mood episode 6 begins with Maggie and Eddie in bed together. She’s looking after Eddie, with her first pill on Tuesday, followed by an appointment at the clinic, which Maggie plans to attend with her.
Once Eddie falls asleep, Maggie leaves and is haunted by weird visions of strange kids. She insists that she’s taking her medication and doing therapy. She screams “Why are you here?” to the imaginary children.
She’s back with Eddie and she googles “Do I have schizophrenia?” Eddie asks if she wants to hang out as she’s taking the rest of the day off, but Maggie says she can’t because she has to go and see her friend, Coco. Eddie prepares to say bye to the bar and suggests she and Maggie go somewhere sunny where Maggie can write. They decide LA is the best option and make plans.
What happens to Maggie and her hallucinations?
Maggie visits Coco and tells her she needs help with a play she’s doing about someone with schizophrenia (in order to get more information on her suspected condition) Her mum comes in and tells Maggie that hallucinations were not exclusive to schizophrenia, and she might be better off going to see a psychiatrist.
She leaves Coco’s house, and it’s dark and she suddenly has no battery on her phone. She experiences more hallucinations: this time of Dr John Nash (the real-life man the film A Beautiful Mind is based on).
Elsewhere, Eddie is getting ready for an appointment at the clinic, while Maggie’s still getting hallucinations of Dr. John Nash as well as the children. Turns out, she’s stayed out all night and stops a car to pick her up. A weird guy called Leon asks her where she wants him to take her, and she says she needs to go to the train station.
Eddie is at the clinic, but Maggie is nowhere to be seen. She wants to wait for Maggie, but she ends up having to go in without her.
Does Maggie catch up with Eddie before she leaves?
Back in the car, Maggie causes a scene with the guy, as she’s convinced he’s going to kill her as he drives through a seemingly remote area. Turns out, this is the way to the station, and Leon was merely trying to do a good deed. Maggie apologises and gets out of the car, and eventually turns up at Girl Borsch. The guy tells her Eddie was in yesterday, and Maggie has somehow missed a whole day.
What happens at the end of Big Mood Season 1?
Turns out, Will turned up to help Eddie, and back at her house, he tells her he loves her, which she teases him about and doesn’t take seriously. She tells him Maggie has read her messages and hasn’t replied to her. Jay turns up to buy the pinball machine Eddie is selling, but really he just wants to give her some extra spending money for Los Angeles, and they hug and make up.
Maggie turns up at the bar, and there’s a closed forever sign on the door. She is shouting “please please please” as there is no answer when she bangs on the door. Will eventually answers the door and tells Maggie that Eddie has gone. Maggie tells Will she thinks there’s something wrong with her brain. He tells her to get some help and shuts the door on her. Maggie looks around to see that Eddie is actually still there, and ready to head off in a taxi. They share a regrettable look, and Eddie leaves in the taxi.
The Episode Review
This was a strong end to this quirky comedy drama. The drama outweighs the comedy in the final episode, and the two central performances are very strong, with some really strong emotional beats, and some weird hallucinations that draw more attention to Maggie’s severe issues.
There’s enough here to justify a second season, with a lot more to explore with these characters.

Really liked this series. Would live to see another season! So much good stuff about bi/Polar disorder in this along with how it affects relationships.
