Love Lies
Episode 3 of Big Girls Don’t Cry begins with Vidushi being suspended and Ludo’s captain badge going to her rival Shruthi. Everyone wonders what it is about while Ludo’s father firmly believes that she has been de-badged due to a fake rumour.
The BGDC gang try to help by picking a fight with Shruthi and Mithiya to find out the source of the rumour. However, Noor is hellbent on finding out the reason. Principal Verma shuts her up but she keeps badgering Ludo who finally reveals that someone saw Vidushi kiss her.
Tensions run high as VVGS and Wild Oak will hold a co-ed social party. The sign of a situationship is an Oak boy giving his necktie to a VVGS girl. Oak’s debate champion, Vivek takes revenge on Manjoree for stealing his argument by distracting her. She bickers back but Noor benches her. However, Vivek does feel uncomfortable when all the other Oak boys tease her.
Veer keeps trying to flirt with JC who starts returning his feelings. However, he seems to bond more with Roohi than her, especially when he learns that JC actually doesn’t remember when they first met. JC likes romantic movies while Roohi and Veer like action movies. In the same movie hall, the Oak boys wonder if Ludo is a lesbian which Pluggy laughs off.
As for the drama club, Dia and Kavya keep picking a fight till Aliya has them doing trust fall exercises. But Kavya’s luck runs out when she is told to keep watch while Pluggy video calls her new crush, Jojo. When the librarian arrives, the BGDC gang run off and Kavya is caught. She is given a yellow card and a warning will be sent to her family.
She is miserable as it is revealed that she comes from a small town and is actually on a scholarship. Dia overhears but promises to keep it a secret as ‘scholys’ are looked down upon. She also helps change Kavya’s home address so the warning never reaches her parents.
Principal Verma and her husband, Bob wonder about the science block. She plans to have the Chief Minister invest by inviting him as the diamond jubilee’s chief guest but Bob doesn’t like it.
It is the day of the Social and it is chaos as everyone gets ready. Noor is distracted as the newspapers cover her family’s ban from the US which is at odds with her plan to attend Georgetown.
At the Social, Ludo heads for the Oak head boy and dances with him. They almost kiss but when he brings up the lesbian rumours while giving her his necktie she is uncomfortable. Robot doesn’t like the idea that Pluggy will give her virginity to a guy she may not even like but she tells him to back off. Roohi veers Veer towards JC and dances with the rest of the gang.
However, he gets awkward with the slow dance. He is further shocked when she asks him to meet at the cooler and disappears. But instead of following her, he dances with Roohi who matches his quirky dance moves. He knows she wrote the love letters on JC’s behalf and he gives her his necktie at the end of Big Girls Don’t Cry Episode 3.
The Episode Review
Big Girls Don’t Cry Episode 3 is actually quite different from the previous episodes and it is a nice change of pace. We finally get some major conflict that will most likely be explored in the next episode. But it is the setting and the build-up to the conflicts that make it exciting. Sure, episodic mini-adventures are fun, but we need a thread that will make us want to keep tuning into the next episode, and that is what this one does.
There is Pluggy’s mission and Robot’s sudden interest which may make us wonder if he is actually interested in her. Kavya’s secret we had pretty much guessed is now out in the open and will probably blow back on her at any moment. Ludo’s acceptance of herself and coming out is another major subplot that will definitely be the subject of the coming episodes. But the biggest drama is going to be Veer’s betrayal and if Roohi feels the same, the impact it will have on her friendship with JC.
