What’s the chronological release date order of Demon Slayer?

Ufotable Studios is the only Japanese animation studio that worked on Demon Slayer’s anime adaptation (so far). Additionally, the anime consists of 4 seasons and technically 4 movies. We’ll mention which Demon Slayer story arcs belong to specific seasons. Also, the other three films will be released soon but no dates have been shared for each film.

With that taken into account, these were all released between 2019 to present (so far). We’ll update this page over time when the future films release.

The current chronological release order for Demon Slayer is as follows:

  1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba (2019) – Season 1
  2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2020)
  3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Mugen Train Arc (2021) – Season 2
  4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Entertainment District Arc (2021) – Season 2
  5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc (2023) – Season 3
  6. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Hashira Training Arc (2024) – Season 4
  7. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc Trilogy (N/A) – Movie

What’s the best way to watch Demon Slayer?

This anime is pretty straightforward. However, it can be a hassle to choose what to watch first. Nonetheless, below you’ll find the recommended watch order for this anime. We’ll explain why you can skip most of the content above shortly.

Recommended Order:

  1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba (2019) – Season 1
  2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Mugen Train Arc (2021) – Season 2
  3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Entertainment District Arc (2021) – Season 2
  4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc (2023) – Season 3
  5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Hashira Training Arc (2024) – Season 4
  6. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc Trilogy (N/A) – Movie

Is there any content that can be skipped?

There is. However, a unique case can be made for this anime. After Season 1 concluded, Ufotable Studios opted to adapt the Mugen Train Arc as a film, giving fans a cinematic experience. Surprisingly, the studio adapted that arc and its follow-up into separate episodes, giving birth to Season 2.

While anyone can watch the Mugen Train Arc film instead of the first half of Season 2, some argue it’s best to stick with Demon Slayer’s seasonal viewing route. Moreover, one of the episodes in the Mugen Train Arc contains incredible material that’ll enhance one’s experience of it.

While Ufotable Studios may opt for this film-to-TV release strategy with the planned Infinity Castle trilogy, Demon Slayer fans should follow the recommended order.
