Berlin – Season 1 Episode 3 “Full House of Embryos” Recap & Review

Full House of Embryos

Episode 3 of Berlin starts with Berlin and the gang discussing the second act of their heist, and he welcomes Keila to explain her role in this. Unfortunately, Bruce gets excited and starts looking around the hotel room, causing a distraction.

To teach him a lesson, Berlin makes him drink the whole bottle of champagne he was excited to find. He reminds the group that they can’t afford to be distracted and will get 16 years of imprisonment if anyone messes up.

Our attention returns to Keila, who explains that once she takes control of the auction house system, she will record footage of the empty vault and antechamber. She will use this footage whenever the gang wants to enter the vault.

Berlin is confident that the plan will work flawlessly even with an amateur team. He and Damián believe the kids are malleable and ready to be taught. They also need one brain in the team, which happens to be Damián.

The two oldies are excited to work with the young and teach them. They find the young people invigorating. As per the plan, the team manages to get into the vault and is ecstatic that they made it. Even though it is currently empty, they share their excitement and congratulate each other.

Later, Berlin goes on a date with Camille at a high-end restaurant. However, François coincidentally shows up, forcing Berlin to act like a rude Spanish art dealer. François is unpleased with Berlin’s tone towards his wife and warns him to take it down a notch. He is unaware that Berlin currently has his wife’s panties in his pocket. No pun intended!

After the encounter, Berlin and Camille laugh about the incident. Camille admits he feels awful for cheating on François, but the affair is too exciting for her. She says Berlin is giving her the life she always wanted. Berlin invites her to a weekend gateway and asks Camille to lie to her husband that she is going on a  sudden work trip.

Without a care in the world, Berlin and Camille head out of town for their rendezvous while the gang goes out with  Damián.  Damián has been to Paris with his wife long ago and shares his experience with his students. While Cameron asks for an advance in her share, Bruce tries to help Keila feel more relaxed.

As they talk, Damián’s wife calls and asks for a separation. This is a big blow to the poor man as she is still madly in love with his wife and wonders what went wrong. The gang tries to cheer him up, and Cameron opts to keep him company instead of going dancing. She helps Damián to come to terms with the end of his relationship. She fears Damián’s wife is having an affair, and after thinking about it, Damián realises Cameron might be right.

On the other hand, Bruce worries why Roi has not returned the bike he borrowed. Bruce rented the bike and needs to return it before the police are involved. Roi advises him to forget about the bike he rented with his fake passport.

Keila adds that the rental company took Bruce’s picture, and they can use facial recognition to track him down. Roi responds they are in trouble because the priest’s ex-cons took the bike.

After spending most of their time in bed, Berlin and Camille finally decide to get a break. As they talk about the place they should visit in Paris, François calls to confront Camille about the affair. He found the emails on her open laptop.

Berlin goes for a walk to give the couple time to talk. Berlin feels happy that the secret is finally out and he can get Camille to herself.

At the same time, Cameron overhears François moving up the plan since the jewels have arrived. François plans to take the jewels to be appraised the next day before a press conference and the auction. This changes everything, and the gang must also move up their plans. She informs Damián, who insists they must steal the jewels that night. Damián has Roi call Berlin and informs him of the changes.

Berlin is in a great mood and hopes Camille will get divorced soon. He promises to be there for the heist and returns to Camille. She says she is not going to leave her husband. In fact, François is willing to be a father and wants to start the family Camille has always longed for.

This is a shock to Berlin, and he says he will need time to think about it since he is confused about his place in her life. He asks they spend the night in different rooms and promises to have breakfast together.

He drives back to town and calls Roi to rant about being Camille’s booty call. He admits that he likes Camille and can’t forget about her.

Berlin is more pissed that François promised to start a family with Camille. He decides to take matters further and orders Roi to get acetone and bleach to make chloroform. Berlin plans to use it on François to teach him a lesson.

The Episode Review

Cameron was right: love is a disease, and Berlin is sick. He got mixed up with Camille, thinking she would leave her husband for him. He didn’t expect only to be a bout of excitement that helped scratch the itch after being in a long relationship.

Berlin played himself, and watching him trip over Camille, choosing her husband over him, was so funny. He deserves it, and it is only fitting. After all, they barely know each other. She doesn’t even know his real name, yet he wants her to dump her marriage for him! The audacity! On the other hand, Camille should have known better, too.

The show tried to amp the stake in this episode but still came horribly short. The suspense was barely there, even with the gang moving up the heist. At this point, the affair of Berlin is more engaging than the heist itself.

Lastly, Damián’s divorce storyline feels forced and is a mediocre attempt by the writers to create discord between Berlin and Damián.

With Damian’s wife allegedly cheating, the latter won’t take too kindly to Berlin’s affair, and this might cause friction in their relationship. The more we learn about the support characters, the less attached we feel about them. The only storyline we are looking forward to is Keila and Bruce’s possible love story.
