‘Beau Is Afraid’ Movie Release Date, Trailer & Where To Watch

Beau Is Afraid

Very little is known about the upcoming comedy horror movie Beau Is Afraid, which is of little surprise considering the movie’s director, Ari Aster, previously gave us Hereditary and Midsommar, two creepy terror tales that were clouded in secrecy before the time of their release.

We do know Joaquin Phoenix is in the movie and that his character is an anxious man named Beau who embarks on an epic journey to get home to his mother. We also know that, during his travels, he enters into cartoon worlds and other surreal landscapes that may or may not have been conjured up by his fragile state of mind.

As can be seen in the movie’s trailer below, his appearance changes, with his junior self appearing one moment and his older self appearing the next.

What is going on? And what is Beau afraid of? We have no idea but if you’re a fan of Aster’s previous movies, you will already be prepared to expect the unexpected when his latest mind-bender hits theatres this year.

When will Beau Is Afraid be released?

Beau Is Afraid will be released in select IMAX theatres in the US on April 14, 2023. The movie will then arrive in US theatres nationwide on April 21st.

Audiences in the UK will have to wait until May 19th to see the movie.

Who stars in Beau Is Afraid?

The role of Beau will be played by two actors. Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) plays the character at three different stages of his adult life and Armen Nahapetian (Daybreak) plays the teenage version of Beau.

Also in the cast are Patti LuPone and Zoe Lister-Jones as Mona Wassermann, Beau’s mother, at two different stages of her life.

The cast list also includes:

Amy Ryan as Grace
Nathan Lane as Roger
Kylie Rogers as Toni
Denis Ménochet as Jeeves
Parker Posey as Elaine Bray
Julia Antonelli as teen Elaine
Stephen McKinley Henderson as the therapist
Richard Kind as Dr. Cohen
Hayley Squires as Penelope
Michael Gandolfini as one of Beau’s sons
Bill Hader as a package delivery man

Who is the director of Beau Is Afraid?

As we have already stated, Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster is the man behind this bewildering new movie. His previous movies were critically acclaimed and were hailed as works of genius in some quarters, so here’s hoping Beau Is Afraid is as good as his previous works. We have no doubt that it will be but like those movies, his latest picture probably won’t be for all tastes.
