Ticktock, Ticktock
Bank Under Siege episode 3 with a flashback to when President Franco resigned on January 29th 1981. On that day, Maider visited her dad in his office to tell him she is quitting law school to be a journalist. He was not exactly pleased that his little girl wants to follow in his footsteps. He tried to convince her to change her mind, but she refused.
They got ready to go home, but Maider forgot her bag in his office. She leaves him in the car to go get it. Unfortunately, his car blew up and he died.
Presently, Maider writes her first story on the bank heist, and Isabel is impressed. After their shift, she invites Maider to join her for drinks. At the bar, Maider sees Berni and apologises for being rude.
At the bank, the tension between the robbers thickens. Quevasand Jose talk about the documents they snuck out. This implies the bank robbery was not their main goal. The media reports that it might be a long night for those at the bank. The robbers decide to vote and decide what they want since they believe Jose will get them killed.
After voting, some of them decide it will be better to surrender. The others choose to stick with Jose and find a new escape route. When Roman asks to allow the hostages to call their families, Jose agrees. He hopes that the families of the hostages will put pressure on the government to give in to their commands. The robbers ask to call their families but Jose refuses. He is frustrated that he can’t call his wife, but knows the risks that may pose to his family.
In the meantime, the police secure the sewers and check that the robbers are not using them as an escape route. The General convinces the President to give them the green light to breach the bank. Manglano is also present and suggests that they should trick the robbers into thinking they will get away. He suggests they get a bus and allow the robbers to leave with a few hostages.
Once they are far, they can send the Special ops to deal with the robbers. The President takes both suggestions into consideration and asks to reconvene the following day.
On the other hand, Paco arrests the owner of the sketchy restaurant mentioned by his informant. The restaurant owner refuses to cooperate and lies that he doesn’t know the identity of the man referred to as Blond. He only says that the man earned the name because he smokes blond tobacco.
That is the same brand that the hostages told Paco that Number 1 uses. With no option, Paco releases the man but asks his officers to keep a watch on him. The restaurant owner later heads to a woman’s house and the police follow him.
Elsewhere, one of the hostages, Manuel, who managed to be set free, meets with Manglano and gives him the documents. In a surprising twist, we learn that the hostage in question is the real owner of the sketchy restaurant. Manuel used to be a spy for Carrero Blanco in the Secret Service. At the same time, Paco realises that Blond and Number 1 are the same person.
The following morning, the President informs the police that all his officers and weapons are accounted for. The robbers are not Civil Guard officers. The General convinces the President to give him until the afternoon to get the robbers to surrender. If they fail to surrender, the President orders him to resolve the situation through whatever means possible.
In the bank, one woman has a panic attack setting the other hostages and the robbers off. Meanwhile, Maider and Berni return to their spot outside the bank. Maider is excited to see her first article on paper.
As they watch from the rooftop of a nearby building, they spot the arrival of the armoured cars. Jose and his men open fire on the armoured vans as a sign that they won’t surrender. At the command centre, the General director refuses to back down and insists they need to pressure the robbers to surrender.
Jose orders two of his men to check the rooftop as it is the only way in the police can use. One of the robbers suggests they blend in with the hostages when the police break in. He believes they can get away with it, since no one has seen their faces. Simultaenously, Jose has Ramon to call the command centre and demand to have an armoured car to take them out of the bank.
Ramon begs the General to comply and put an end to the situation. After the call, the General calls the President and informs him that the robbers have refused to surrender. The President gives him the order to breach and starts writing his resignation letter.
Meanwhile, Berni and Maider spot the two robbers on the rooftop. The robbers notice the special ops moving into position and rush to tell Jose. Jose takes Ramon and heads out to prove he is not scared.
The Episode Review
Things are coming to a head as the second day of the heist pushes everyone over the edge. The President is writing his resignation letter because he is worried about the collateral damage the breach will have.
