Bandidos – Season 2 Episode 4 “The Island of the Dead” Recap & Review

Episode 4

Episode 4 of Bandidos Season 2 begins with Refugio, the cuckolded husband holding everyone at the hotel hostage including Miguel’s father, Juan. He knows about the treasure and wants it for himself. Lili misdirects him to the cave underneath. Once they are distracted, Lili and Leo jump him and lock him in the cave.

As for Citlali’s emergency, her mother has sold the house and left. Her boyfriend, German is taking care of her siblings. Miguel returns with a broken arm but Lili is more interested in resuming the heist. She recalls Pachita mentioning the Mayan woman who freed her people from the Spaniards. There can only be one woman rich enough to buy an enslaved tribe’s freedom – Gonzalo’s wife, Zazil.

Laureana Wright was a 19th-century researcher who focused on Zazil. Plan A is to buy Wright’s unpublished writings from an auction with Ariel’s money. The bidding goes wrong as one lady goes as high as 50k. Ariel doesn’t believe it is worth it and the lady wins.

Lili notices Regina’s trademark love “bite” on Ariel and cuts him out, forcing them all to move to Plan C. She drugs him just as Lucas shuts down the power. Citlali steals the writing and replaces it with fakes. When the lights come on, they claim to be the police and leave with Ariel’s 200k.

Outside, Mano holds Lucas hostage to get the writing for Regina. Pepa shows up with her men and steals it instead. Ariel rants to Regina about his stolen money but she doesn’t care. She cancels their partnership which included loaning the diamond to his museum.

Meanwhile, Ines continues to ignore Octavio. Alex tries to vouch for him but she tells him to forget Octavio. Unfortunately, Mano takes him hostage to keep the bandits in line. Pepa shows up at the hotel with the writings since she doesn’t know what to look for. The bandits offer a 20% cut and Pachita tells her to agree.

The search begins and the bandits finally find Zazil’s resting place – the Island of the Dead. Ines joins them on the sea excursion and claims Alex is with his father. Octavio is glad to see her and gives her the 200k for her custody battle. Leo updates Lili on Regina’s texts. She tells him to lie as she can only negotiate once she gets the diamond. He points out that the gold may be over as Zazil must have used it to free the enslaved. Lili tells him to keep it to himself.

Nearby, Lucas checks on Citlali who is worried about her family. He gushes about how kind she is and how much he likes her. He didn’t want to disappoint her which is why he messed up Paris.

Next, Regina texts Ines for updates when Octavio approaches her. He apologises for everything and confesses that he would give his life for her and Alex. Ines tears up and tells him everything. As for Alex, he pretends to play along with Mano but tries to escape when he is alone.

Miguel is upset with Lili after curiosity gets the better of him and he goes through her case files. He believes Regina hates her because she killed Inigo. Imaginary Wilson tries to make him give Lili a second chance. Miguel lets it slip that he may be jealous of Leo and Wilson tells him to express his anger instead of pretending everything is fine.

Lili goes through the case files and is upset as it includes her mother’s mental illness. She doesn’t know who she is anymore and Leo comforts her. She has a nightmare of injecting Inigo and him going into shock in front of Regina.

She wakes up to see Regina and her men surrounding them all. Lili vouches for Leo while Ines insists she didn’t betray them despite Alex being taken hostage. They are all shocked and Regina toys with them further as she reveals Leo slept with her as part of the deal. But it is the USB device containing Lili’s files that she gave Miguel that helped track them.

Regina takes the writings, locks everyone below and takes Lili. Once they are off the boat, Mano fires a missile at it. Octavio tries to stay calm but soon they all panic as water starts seeping in. Citlali asks Lucas what he would do if they could do Paris again and he kisses her. Ines refuses to die without rescuing Alex.

At the end of Bandidos Season 2 Episode 4, they spot a bomb in Octavio’s weapons cache and attach it to the door. They all go underwater as the bomb explodes.

The Episode Review

Bandidos Season 2 Episode 4 really picks up the pace which we weren’t even sure was possible anymore. However, it is still able to balance out the action with some heartfelt moments and introspection which flesh out the characters and their dynamics. Octavio patches up with Ines who proves her loyalty. Lucas’ confession finally pays off and it looks like Citlali hasn’t completely moved on. But we do feel for German who has taken in her siblings, poor guy.

Regina’s hatred for Lili also makes sense, more than the idea that Lili stole her teddy bear and then her family’s money. From what we can piece together, Lili possibly tried to help Inigo who died after a reaction to whatever was in that injection. And a young Regina must have believed that it was premeditated murder. So far, she hasn’t been as scary a villain as the ones of Season 1 but she is finally catching up.
