Episode 2
Episode 2 of Bandidos Season 2 begins with the bandits learning of Cortes’ cryptex which has the location of Gonzalo’s tomb. With antics planned and unplanned, they steal it while it is being carried to the museum.
Inside the truck, with the cryptex, is none other than Ariel who wants the treasure too. While everyone is annoyed, Lili suggests he can fund their operation and get a cut. They give in and next, they argue over the cryptex code before figuring it out. The letter reveals that Gonzalo died in Ticamaya and was buried underneath the Scorpion Cave.
Elsewhere, Alex is worried about the custody battle as he wants to live with his mom. Octavio shows up for weapons as he hid some at Ines’ as a precaution. She decides not to join them since she finds Lili suspicious and plans to look into her. She kisses Octavio’s cheek as good luck and Alex is amused.
Alone, she ropes in her ex, Carmen who is still sour about their breakup. But she comes through with intel – Lili is originally a Hernandez, adopted by the Valdes empire. They are known for their diamonds and guns. She is wanted for murder as she killed her stepfather, Inigo. Ines’ ex-husband, Gonzalo suddenly calls as Alex never made it to school. She is shocked but swiftly lies that he is sick at home.
As for the bandits, they begin their excursion. Lucas sulks over Citlali who has a new boyfriend. Miguel hasn’t forgiven Lili for running away. Regina text spams Leo who assures her he will keep updating her. Mano is watching them when she sends him to watch Ines.
On the way, Miguel notices Leo constantly texting but Lili shuts him up. Octavio is awkwardly stuck between Citlali and Lucas. Miguel pushes the van and it breaks down. As they get ready to walk the rest of the way, Octavio finds Alex. He wants to help, as with the money, Ines can win the custody battle. Octavio panics but has no option as there is no cell service to contact Ines.
They reach the battle site and Miguel tells them about the Spaniards massacring the Mayans. Gonzalo, who had joined the Mayans, was killed for his betrayal. They simply need to find the cave now.
It seems like it will rain but Miguel insists the weather app has their back. Nature wins and they are forced to stop and make camp. Octavio continues with his mental fortitude pep talk while Leo disappears. He is trying to contact Regina when Lili shows up. She is upset to see the scars Regina inflicted on him. He is touched that she rescued him and they almost kiss before stopping.
Octavio’s messages finally reach Ines but the network disappears once more before their location can be sent. He continues to look after Alex while stealing some snacks for himself. While everyone is asleep, Miguel follows Leo. He tries to call Regina again but Miguel trips. Leo goes back to Lili who is having a nightmare about the dying Inigo. She asks where he was and he says he was trying to call.
The next morning, Lucas is upset about the missing food and wet drone. After Octavio misdirects him successfully, he confides in Miguel that he doesn’t trust Leo either. They are interrupted by Alex who has found the cave. They come to a fork and Miguel splits them up so Leo is with Lucas and Citlali. We soon learn that Lucas stood Citlali up in Paris which is why she hates him. Miguel too uses the chance to tell Lili about Leo’s call but she doesn’t want to hear it.
Ines gets their location and goes after them while Mano follows from afar. As for Regina, she visits Ariel and proposes a business partnership.
The bandits finally find the grave but it is a set-up for Cortes. Gonzalo never buried the treasure with him. While the bandits are frustrated, Lucas confesses to Citlali that he did go to Paris. He doesn’t get to say more as they are all suddenly surrounded by scorpions at the end of Bandidos Season 2 Episode 2.
The Episode Review
Hold up, does Lili know about Leo and Regina? Is he playing the double agent role who later betrays Regina? Why else would he tell Lili he is trying to call someone? And let’s be honest, from what we know of her, she isn’t dense to wave off Miguel’s concerns of Leo calling a woman. She can put two and two together and figure that he is calling Regina.
Bandidos Season 2 Episode 2 also gives us more of Octavio and Alex’s dynamic which is sweet and hilarious. This is probably the funniest episode so far with Miguel’s constant optimism being thwarted by fate, nature and scorpions in jump cuts. The bandits trying to unravel the mystery which is the location of the treasure is pretty entertaining as well. As long as they stick to this formula, we just may be in for a pretty good ride this season.
