Thermopylae
Episode 7 begins with John and Makee’s consciousness conversing, with each trying to reason after touching the Halo Keystone. John asks Makee not to lead Covenant to the Halo because they’ll use it to eradicate mankind.
However, Makee doesn’t plan to lead the Covenant to the Halo and offers John a chance to join him so they can live in peace together. However, before they can converse further, they have to let go of the Keystone.
At Onyx, Parangosky figures out the Covenant fleet Cortana is on is emitting some sort of weird signal. Some say it is a black hole, but Parangosky’s facial expressions suggest that it is something else, probably Halo. She orders Ackerson to gather Spartan-IIIs and send them to infiltrate the ship.
Unfortunately, they are soon obliterated, and Parangosky asks him to dispatch another batch. Ackerson tries to convince her not to do it, but Parangosky is hell-bent on stopping the Covenant from getting to Halo, even if it means sacrificing the entire Spartan fleet.
Meanwhile, Ackerson deploys a marine to capture John, but the soldiers refuse. Kai also returns and now plans to help John in doing the right thing. Back at the library, Halsey reveals to his daughter that it was here where she found a DNA strand that was a mix of both human and the Covenant. Halsey believed it could usher humanity into a new era.
As for Soren and Laera, they reach the arena and tell her how the UNSC trained him. Soren suggests Laera leave Kessler to UNSC so he can have a chance at becoming a Spartan, but Leara refuses, stating she’ll not allow her son to be turned into a mindless killer.
John finds Ackerson and starts strangling him until Ackerson reveals where he has kept John’s suit. On their way to the suit, Ackerson reveals that Parangosky is a liar and the spike doesn’t work like they’ve told. Once activated, it will burn everything within a million miles, both Covenant and humans.
Parangosky knows that if they lose, they’ll not get the Halo, but if the spike is activated, neither will the Covenant. John gets to his suit, and before putting it on, he asks Ackerson to come clean and reveal what Parangosky did on Reach.
Ackerson realizes it will ruin him as well, but he agrees to do the right thing. Kai decides to go with the Spartan, while John plans to get to the Halo.
In the library, Kwan-ha and others figure out the cosmic cipher and open the giant door. They cross the light bridge and understand that it is a sort of an ancient lab. Inside, they also find the remains of a scientist that appears almost human and, bizarrely, a huge alien city underneath.
Soren finally comes through and jumps into the arena to save his son, but soon, he is overwhelmed, giving the guards a chance to abduct Kesslar and Laera. John meets Parez, who asks him to fight beside him, for it will rejuvenate the soldiers’ morals. But John says he has a different mission.
In the meantime, Halsey and Miranda analyze the artifacts they found in the lab.
In the penultimate scene, Ackerson confronts Parangosky, but she doesn’t listen. However, her plan goes sideways when John takes the mic, revealing that he is alive. This also inspires the Marines who have lost hope after Reach fell. John gets on a ship, enters the wrap, and as he is coming out of it, he sees the sought-after Halo ring.
The Episode Review
As we approach the final episode, things are heating up. Kai has discovered that she’s been deceived and decides to align herself with her Chief.
Ackerson also has a change of heart after witnessing Parangosky’s ruthless actions, including sacrificing her entire Spartan III team. Despite being arrested, it’s only a matter of time before Parangosky’s actions are exposed to everyone.
