The Map
Episode 1 of Bandidos begins at a highly posh hotel where our POV character, Miguel, works. During one of his work days, he runs into an old flame, Lilly, whose eyes are as sharp as an eagle. At first glance, it appears that she is at the hotel to hunt for her next millionaire husband or boyfriend.
At night, Miguel encounters a drunkard named Luis, who keeps yapping about the greatest treasure in the world. The treasure belonged to Hastoc, the last ruler of the Kaan Dynasty. He was buried with all his treasure, including a golden jaguar sculpture called Kaan Balam that can bring the king back from the dead.
Miguel decides to help Luis find the treasure because he too, once dreamt of finding that score. However, when Miguel goes to check on Luis, he is nowhere to be found at the hotel.
Miguel goes to check on his father, who was a great explorer in his prime. Miguel also joined him on many of his adventures. Together, they scaled mountains and dodged the bandits’ bullets. But now, his father is restricted to a retirement home, and Miguel is broke.
Things take an interesting turn when Luis’ body is recovered from the ocean. Moreover, Luis’s tattoo, which he claimed was the map of the treasure, was ripped off his body. Fortunately, Miguel had photographed it on his phone the night he met with Luis.
However, the map by itself is useless, as it has no coordinates or degrees, and they need to find another map from Ariel’s museum. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Ariel is Miguel’s arch-nemesis and also the owner of the museum.
Miguel asks for Lily’s help, but she refuses. She also says something that suggests she and Miguel were dating once. However, she comes around when she is arrested for defrauding a hotel guest of his material belongings. To steal the map, Miguel also gathers his old crew, including Lucas, the tech geek, and his uncle, Wilson, a charmer and an unbeatable counterfeiter.
They chart out a brilliant plan, believing they will be able to snag the map without any hiccups if everything goes according to plan. Their plan involves Lily and Lucas disrupting the air conditioner while Miguel and Wilson infiltrate the museum, posing as repairmen.
Miguel is able to break into the room and even manages to photograph the map, but as he is exiting the room, Miguel mistakenly triggers the motion sensors and is locked in.
The Episode Review
Even though Miguel had a solid plan, he’s now stuck in a tricky situation. He’ll need to rely on his smarts to navigate his way out. If Ariel catches wind that Miguel is after the world’s greatest treasure, he’ll do whatever it takes to beat him to it and steal the glory.
In the episode, we also encounter a mysterious man in a red suit with a strange cane. Who is he? Could he be the one who killed Luis? It sure seems that way, especially considering that we stopped the map on his yacht.
