Baki Hanma – Season 2 Episode 23 Recap & Review

Urban Legend

Episode 23 of Baki Hanma season 2 marks the start of the real fight between Baki and Yujiro. Baki loosens his body as needed for the cockroach dash technique. Yujiro realizes what he is doing and overconfidently encourages Baki to try it. Baki takes off with maximum velocity as he grabs Yujiro’s waist, pushing him through multiple glass windows. Upon running into a wall, Baki slips back and unleashes a deadly kick, throwing Yujiro through several stalls in the washroom.

As Baki grapples his waist, Yujiro compliments the newfound technique while pushing back against Baki. He grabs Baki by the waist and gives him a suplex, sending him through a wall and off the hotel.

The people had heard of the underground fighting arena, which had absolutely no rules, and had heard about the 17-year-old champion of the arena. They had also heard about the champion’s father, who triumphed over multiple wild beasts, modern weaponry and was feared by great world leaders. The public is thrilled to know the legend is true and flocks to watch the fight in great numbers.

Looking at the crowd, Yujiro suggests they postpone the fight to another day but Baki taunts Yujiro, saying he is just scared to get beat up in front of a crowd. Baki loosens his body once again and delivers three fatal strikes to Yujiro within the blink of an eye. These moves are so quick that they weren’t visible to the general public, leaving them baffled.

Baki decides to use the Cockroach Dash one more time but is stopped in his tracks by Yujiro. Yujiro unleashes a direct blow, slamming his hand into Baki’s face, causing tears and blood to flow. Closing his eyes out of pain, Baki jumps up to deliver one more strike on Yujiro, but Yujiro grabs him by the face once again and throws him away. This happens one more time.

Laying there, Baki realizes this is no longer a civil father-son sparring session. It had rather become a battle. Baki pulls himself together and drains the blood out of his nostrils. The adrenaline rush also manages to reduce the bleeding. Baki goes on to unleash a flurry of attacks, which Yujiro precisely blocks. Doppo thinks of Baki as a lucky son, as no other son in the world gets to play with his dad like this.

Baki realizes someone is up there, watching him fight. He signals to him to watch him as he takes the Triceratops form, implying Pickle is watching him from a distance. The crowd gasps as they see a 26-foot-tall beast as Baki vanishes, leaving only the beast to focus on.

The Episode Review

Finally, with nothing remaining in the way and no one holding back, we witness the beginning of the end. Given their current status, Yujiro still seems unmatched, as manifested by his absolute dominance with little effort.

Baki has a lot to work on but granted that there are 4 more episodes, a lot will change. Most of Baki’s efforts in training have been hidden from sight, as the first part only featured Baki in the finale. So what did Baki learn during this period? What new techniques does he pick up mid-fight? Is he even able to defeat Yujiro, or is it just a far-fetched dream? This final battle will hold the answers to the most intriguing questions!
