Bad Sisters – Season 2 Episode 3 “Missing” Recap & Review

Missing

In Bad Sisters Season 2 Episode 3, the Garvey sisters grieve Grace’s death. They listen to the voicemail she left Eva on repeat, wondering why she needed help.

Ursula wonders if the drugs she gave Grace caused her to have the accident on the road. At her house, she checks for the packet she gave her and can’t find it.

Eva hands in her notice at her job since they’re not understanding of her grief. Blanaid asks after Ian, but they don’t know what to tell her. He’s still missing, and Blanaid still thinks Grace is at fault for driving him away.

Since Ian isn’t there, Ursula volunteers to identify the body. Loftis and Houlihan show up and wonder why Ian isn’t present.

Houlihan asks after Loftus’ family and learns his daughter is going to be moving to Australia. The detectives both attend the funeral, much to the chagrin of the Garveys. So does Matthew Claffin, to Becka’s surprise. Joe apparently doesn’t know that they used to date.

The priest’s words are indiscernible, seeing as he had a stroke last year. Bibi starts laughing at the funeral, which turns into crying. It’s the first time she’s been able to cry since Grace’s death.

The service concludes with Roger singing a song dedicated to Grace. Ian finally shows up at the end and explains to the Garveys that he learned Grace killed John Paul. The detectives ask to talk to him, but he avoids their questions.

Ian asks the sisters if they helped her. They admit they covered it up, so he asks them for time to process.

Angelica tells Ursula she knows what JP did to Grace and what she did to him. Torn up with guilt, Ursula confesses to her about the pills she gave Grace. She thinks it’s her fault she died.

Later, Houlihan reveals to Loftus she did some digging on Matt Claffin’s social media. Based on their liking of each other’s social media posts, she thinks Matt and Becka used to date. She thinks the sisters helped with the murder and that Becka used Matt to help them get away with it.

Ursula tries to smooth things over with Angelica after their chat. But Angelica dances around the subject, talking instead about the money her charity organization needs. Ursula takes the hint and leaves her some money in an envelope in exchange for her silence.

Eva argues with Ian over “hogging” Blanaid, as the girl never comes to see her. Ian insists he be part of her life as her stepdad who cares about her. Eva tries to accept it but still struggles with the responsibility she feels to her niece.

She then finds receipts in Grace’s jacket noting withdrawals that total 20,000 pounds, all taken out hours before she died. She tells her sisters. Ursula runs off without saying a word, eventually showing up at Donal’s. She learns from him that Ally (his girlfriend whom she works with) has been talking about doing an audit at work over some missing pills. Once again, she runs off.

She shows up at work to steal some of the records, but Ally catches her and asks her not to make things any worse for herself.

Ursula says she originally stole pills to help Michael through his nightmares, but she took one for herself one night and slept better than she ever had.

Meanwhile, Loftis’ wife hounds him about signing their divorce papers, which he’s been refusing to do.

After receiving the toxicology results, the detectives go see the Garvey sisters. They reveal it came back clean. Grace hadn’t drunk alcohol or taken anything the night of her death, much to Ursula’s relief. Houlihan then asks Becka if she was involved with Matt, which she denies.

Ursula admits how she took some pills and gave some to Grace, and that she told Angelica, who then blackmailed her. She thinks Angelica did the same thing to Grace.

They have no idea just how involved with Grace’s life Angelica was. Apparently, she knows Blanaid well too, as the two of them meet up without the sisters’ knowledge.

The Episode Review

“That which is done in love cannot be bad.” This statement coming from Angelica explains so much about her character, as she does some terrible things under the guise of love. I guess the Garvey sisters could understand that. However… Angelica’s “love” is the sort that lends a moral superiority to her every thought and action. Which makes her an incredibly dangerous person around the Garveys, who share a much more malleable moral compass.

I fear the subplot around Ursula’s quickly-resolved guilt makes this a less interesting episode. But the tension is mounting, with the detectives getting closer and closer to unveiling the sisters’ involvement.
