Bad Sisters – Season 2 Episode 1 “Good Sisters” Recap & Review

Good Sisters

Bad Sisters Season 2 Episode 1 begins with the Garvey sisters (minus Grace) driving to a secluded place at night. They nervously stand around the trunk of the car, which opens suddenly and loudly, causing them to scream.

Two years after Grace murdered John Paul, she’s moving on with her new fiance Ian. Her sisters are truly happy for her, even if Eva can’t understand her desire to get married again.

Leading up to Grace’s wedding, the sisters win a horse racing bet thanks to a tip from Roger’s sister Angelica, and we’re introduced to Becka’s boyfriend Joe, who attempts (without much success) to charm his way into her family. At the wedding, Bibi and her wife share they are having another child, although Bibi seems less than excited. Ursula struggles with seeing Donal attend with another woman. She sneaks away to take a pill to help deal with the stress.

During a dance with newly married Grace, Roger shares that he’s been struggling with JP’s death, saying that his life has stood still ever since. He thinks Grace has forgotten him.

Later, the remains of JP’s father George are found. Inspector Loftus is back on the case, and he’s not happy about it. For one, he has to work with a socially awkward new detective named Una Houlihan. For another, he’s faced ridicule surrounding his work on JP’s case, seeing as the exhumation he called for came to nothing.

After Angelica sees guards at JP’s old place, she suspects Roger knows something he isn’t telling her. Roger tries to warn Grace, but not in time. Loftus and Houlihan show up to inform her of the discovery of George’s remains. When Loftus asks her what happened with her insurance claim, she tells him she withdrew it. She says she didn’t want to make a spectacle of JP’s death, but this is suspicious to him. Loftus tries to get in touch with the Claffin brothers for more information.

Later, Roger tells Grace he’s thinking of coming clean to the police. Grace begs him not to. At home, Angelica tells Roger they need to talk.

Grace then confesses to Ian how she murdered John Paul due to his raping Eva and abusing her. Not knowing what to do with this information, Ian leaves.

Blanaid overhears him leaving and runs to tell Eva.

The Episode Review

The cinematography at the start of this episode really drives home the tenderness Grace has with Ian as opposed to what she had with John Paul. I hope it’s a sign that things truly have changed for the better, even if only for the time being. Because truths are about to come to light…

I’m worried about what’s in store for Grace. Roger presents a real danger to her, considering what he knows (and so does Angelica, although she seems a more mysterious threat). It looks as if Roger had grander expectations as to what Grace’s relationship to him would be. I’ll be disappointed if he turns his back on her because he thought she owed him something.

All in all, it’s good to have the Garvey sisters back. I’m anxious to see how they will charm their way out of this season’s illegal escapades.
