Bad Monkey – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap & Review

The Plan

Episode 8 of Bad Monkey begins with Yancy’s house coming under attack. Yancy hangs about though, jumping on the guards when they head inside. Alongside Rosa, they make a terrible showing and are easily overpowered.

However, it turns out the attackers are  led by a guy called Pestov. He used to be part of the Russian mafia and he’s actually been hired by the neighbour, our annoying realtor, to rough Yancy up. Only, they have history together and Pestov can only profusely apologize for his mistake. Naturally, Yancy retaliates with gunfire against the ugly house next door.

Meanwhile, Bonnie is let go. Apparently in Oklahoma they don’t care about her arrest. Turns out the officer just went after her on her own. Her boss has decided it’s all done so Bonnie is heading back to Florida now. So that whole subplot was for nothing then, wonderful.

After some food and clearing the place up, Yancy’s dad convinces his son to hang onto that which natters. And of course, he’s referencing Rosa.

Over at the Bahamas, romance is certainly not blooming. Things between Gracie and Eg are frosty, while Nick tries to make up for his shortcomings by buying Eve’s affection with a brand new boat. Naturally, Gracie and Egg show up too and they start to hang.

Gracie’s intention here is to bleed the pair dry, so she’s playing nice for now but has big plans. Egg though, warns that she needs to be careful.

Unfortunately, Asia’s place is ransacked by Egg later that day. This is a direct consequence of Gracie running her mouth to the terrible twosome.

This explains his warning and when Gracie calls him out for it, he shrugs it off and claims it’s just business and he was paid to do so.

Gracie rings Ya-Ya after and checks up on her. She’s pretty short with Gracie and after their previous argument, things aren’t going to be patched up that quickly.

However, our wildcard Neville is here and he rings Yancy, informing him of what’s going on. He’s convinced that the bad guys have won, given they’re just hanging about, and he wants to do something about it. He accuses Yancy of not caring, but he absolutely does.

Yancy drives to Miami and informs Director Rhodes about the situation involving Nick. She can’t do anything about this while they’re in Bahamas so he comes up with the idea of bringing them back to US soil.

When the house next door blows up, it marks the return of our resident psycho, Bonnie. So if she wasn’t wanted before, blowing up a house definitely sees her put behind bars instead. This was the plan all along, and it’s apparently something she’s done for Yancy, but he’s not particularly impressed.

The wildcard here though is Caitlyn. She rings Nick and claims that she’s on the road to forgiveness and sows the seeds to organize a meet. However, all of this is part of Yancy and Rosa’s plan to trap the pair, and they happen to be over at her place when she makes the call.

Rosa and Yancy fly to Andros and prepare to go undercover. Rosa poses as a realtor, with a family that owns car dealerships, and she plays it up with Nick and Eve. They both bond over their dislike of Caitlin, and she manages to convince them to fly over to Miami.

As the episode closes out, Nick and Eve head to the local bar to drink before leaving for Miami. Unfortunately, up on the wall happens to be a photo of Yancy and Rosa together with the bartender.

Episode Review

Bad Monkey is back and once more it’s a reminder that this show should have been heavily edited before being released. Literally nothing happens here for Rosa and Yancy convincing Nick and Eve to go back to Miami.

Oh, and we also see that the Bonnie subplot was a complete waste of time. Thanks Apple for adding that in and making it so all the viewers will never get those precious minutes back, much appreciated.

But in all seriousness, there are parts of this that have potential to be good. The dialogue and general banter is pretty solid and you can see what the show is trying to do. It’s just a shame that the execution is so damn poor, dragged out for far too long.
