Bad-Memory Eraser – K-drama Episode 9 Recap & Review

Episode 9

Episode 9 of Bad-Memory Eraser begins with an angry Gun wondering why everyone is trying to hide his accident from him. Ju-yeon says it is for his sake and insists on taking him to the hospital to check his pain.

They do a CAT scan and Han assures Ju-yeon that they will resolve the side effects. Tae-oh overhears and decides to find out what the side effects are

Meanwhile, CEO Hong tells Shin to renew the contract or he will go to the cops. Shin gets drunk and pays two strangers to beat him up. The bartender calls Ju-yeon and a sedated Gun insists on accompanying her. At the bar, she hears Shin getting beaten up and she gets PTSD from her father’s murder. Gun suddenly shows up and beats the strangers up with a racket.

Ju-yeon threatens to report them and they run off. Of course, Gun falls asleep right at that time and Ju-yeon struggles as she carries the brothers home. She cleans up their wounds but her heart flutters while taking care of Gun. The next day, he finds Ju-yeon and Shin suspicious as they try to figure out how much he remembers.

Meanwhile, Shi-on has to do a poop medicine commercial but she is unhappy as everyone teases her and doodles on her school desk. She runs off and Gun tries to resolve it by talking to Chairman Won. However, he is surprised to see that CEO Hong is being preferred over him due to Shin’s renewal contract.

Elsewhere, Mrs. Kyung berates Sae-yan for drinking and roaming around the countryside. She tells her to go home but Sae-yan refuses. Instead, she shows up at the Athlete’s Village as she is officially the Italian coach’s interpreter. Shin is surprised that Ju-yeon recommended her and tells her to quit.

He half explains that CEO Gun is his brother and Ju-yeon is his first love so Sae-yan needs to stay away. She doesn’t understand and points out that she is just doing it all to find her first love. He rudely tells her that maybe he doesn’t want to be found and she looks sad.

As for Ju-yeon, she tries to help by telling Shi-on not to mind when others tease her. She tells her to comfort herself which Shi-on finds ridiculous. But she agrees to the commercial anyway. Gun tells her not to force herself but she says she is doing it so that the sponsors will continue to pay for her coaching.

Having resolved the Shi-on situation, Gun asks Ju-yeon out for a meal. She tries to play it cool but she is excited. He is nonchalant but he is nervous as well as he waits for her at the street stall. However, Ju-yeon is waylaid by Shin. Instead, Sae-yan shows up and decides to give him company much to his annoyance.

He wants to leave but she reels him in by commenting that Ju-yeon doesn’t like him. But she just gets drunk and frets over her first love. He comforts her and she finds him charming as she comments that if she were his first love, she wouldn’t hurt him. Before leaving, she adds that Ju-yeon cares for him and he is happy.

Meanwhile, Shin calls Ju-yeon to a restaurant as he wants to give her Gun’s diary. He decides to tell her about Sae-yan so she can persuade her to stay away so Gun doesn’t regain his memories. Shin tries to flirt and eat with Ju-yeon but she wants to get straight to the point. He ends up giving her Gun’s old schedule diary and she looks bummed.

She plays with her food and doesn’t look too enthusiastic. Shin asks about Sae-yan and Ju-yeon shares she has never done such strict work. He then decides not to tell her as he thinks Sae-yan will quit soon.

They end up talking about Gun and how he was as a child, eating jelly while hiding from the coach. Unfortunately for Shin, he notices that Ju-yeon is way more energetic when she talks about Gun. She claims that it is because Gun is her subject and Shin is glad that she is not the real first love. She looks sad as she agrees.

Well, both Gun and Ju-yeon arrive home tired and upset that their dinner was ruined. She offers him coffee and they accidentally share the can. They continue to drink and fall asleep next to each other. She wakes up and is startled by the nearness. As she touches his face, he wakes up and she slaps him to hide her intentions.

Fully awake, Gun decides to go to Shi-on’s school in the middle of the night. Ju-yeon is scared of the dark and he is amused as he holds her hand. They cover up the insults on Shi-on’s desk and paint the Korean flag over. Ju-yeon can’t help but admire him and as they leave, she is sad that he cannot see the real her. At the end of Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 9, to check if her feelings are real, she hugs him.

The Episode Review

Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 9 finally gets the main leads’ romance going while also setting up the storyline for Sae-yan’s reveal as the true first love. But it is kind of strange that the writers are suddenly amping up the romance for Ju-yeon with the constant staring and heart fluttering for Gun. It feels out of character and off as she has had a very toxic relationship with Gun for the previous 8 episodes.

Now that it is more or less confirmed that Gun and Ju-yeon are endgame, we can see the evident damage as the romance seems rushed and out of place. Instead, the more realistic chemistry between her and Shin has been ruined as she goes from caring for him to completely disregarding him. We are not sure if the K-drama can recover from this but so far, we are only tuning in for the Lee brothers.
