Episode 14
Episode 14 of Bad-Memory Eraser begins with Shin returning home. Gun drops Ju-yeon home and doesn’t want to leave yet as they are all giggly and flirty. Once Ju-yeon heads inside, she finds Sae-yan waiting for her. Sae-yan is sad she has to leave as everyone feels like family. Ju-yeon wants to tell her about Gun’s first love but Sae-yan falls asleep.
Meanwhile, Shin is cleared of all charges and is allowed to return. However, Shin wants to take a break for a year. His mother refuses as she shares that he is only 27 and will anyway retire in a few years. His father and Hong also emotionally blackmail him but he refuses to change his mind.
The only one on his side is Gun as the brothers awkwardly patch up. Shin also deletes Ju-yeon’s photo from his phone. He wants to eat whatever he wants but his mother picks on him. Tired of the bickering, he just leaves.
The repercussions are seen at the Athlete’s Village as Shi-on picks a fight with another athlete for badmouthing Shin. Guk-bong tries to stop them but Shi-on is kicked out.
At the hospital, Han is forced to give the directorship to Tae-oh to buy time. But it isn’t enough as Tae-oh wants to do the reset surgery in 3 days. Ju-yeon hopes to use Kim’s research before that and eliminate the side effects. Tae-oh tells her that the reset is for her so she isn’t disciplined for hiding the side-effects. She calls him out for not caring for the patient and he scoffs as she never has cared for any patient before either.
Meanwhile, Gun is helping Sae-yan find her father as she gleaned from the imposter that her parents had street stalls and their love story made it to the local newspaper. She goes through the archives and finds the article with her father’s photo. She is delighted and hugs Gun for helping her.
He also notices the transfer tattoo on her hand from Seung-hyun and recalls that the stalker’s photos were also in an envelope which uses saliva to seal it. He instantly tells the cops to run a DNA test.
Sae-yan returns home to find Mrs. Jeon and her bodyguards. She tries to beg Mrs. Kyung to help her but Mrs. Kyung is furious as she rants that there is nothing great about having a father and that Sae-yan has been a burden to her. But after Sae-yan leaves, Mrs. Kyung cries.
In the car, Mrs. Jeon is scolding Sae-yan for being irresponsible when a bike crashes in front of them. While the bodyguards are distracted, Sae-yans runs off. The biker drives off as well and gives her a ride. He turns out to be her father and shares the old village chief told him about her. He came in time to see her being taken away.
They have a great time together, eating snacks and buying flowers. He hopes they can live together and she is excited. A stranger bumps into her and making an excuse, the father leaves her alone and follows the stranger with a wrench into an ally.
Ju-yeon is busy working with Han and Kim when Sae-yan calls her to update on her father. The dad shows up and is furious as he grabs her phone and insists that he keep her phone so that the Jeons cannot track her. Sae-yan is confused but agrees. They hang out in his garage shop and seem to have a good time.
Meanwhile, the side effects trial is a success and Han decides to distract Tae-oh while Ju-yeon meets up with Gun. It turns into a date and Gun is excited as it is their first date together. For her, it is their first and last date before she sends him towards his true first love.
However, the date is a success as they flirt with each other and have a good time. However, she is sad that Sae-yan left and asks Gun to meet her. He agrees but with the promise that Ju-yeon will accompany him. They end up talking about their wishes and she is happy that he is confident and full of self-love but sad that she might have to leave him soon.
The next day, Gun decides to customize a bracelet to match Ju-yeon’s wish bracelet. As he waits for her, Han tells her to stay by Gun’s side while he distracts Tae-oh. However, Tae-oh makes some excuses and leaves. At that moment, Gun gets a call that Shin’s stalker is an Ahn Hyo-myeong, a violent criminal with a record of stalking and murder. The photo turns out to be that of Sae-yan’s biological father.
It cuts to Hyo-myeong going to his basement where we see that he has cut out photos of him and Sae-yan together along with crossed-out photos of Shin. As he reads the news of Shin’s suspension, he looks happy.
While Ju-yeon waits for Gun, Tae-oh lures him to the OR. He then locks Gun in and tells him everything about the trial and the fact that Ju-yeon is not his first love but his experimenter. Han learns that Mouse 109 on whom Tae-oh trialled the reset experiment has died and he rushes to the OR.
Tae-oh turns Gun against Han as well and says his reset trial can help Gun go back to how he was before Ju-yeon deceived him. A desperate Han calls Ju-yeon but it is too late as Gun agrees to the reset surgery at the end of Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 14.
The Episode Review
Well, all the points this K-drama had won with the previous episode are not enough to salvage the ending of Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 14. Gun has pretty much recovered all of his memories so why does he even agree to the reset in the first place? And we are sure there are some hospital rules which doesn’t allow Tae-oh to simply manipulate Gun into a surgery while his superior is right there.
While the actors do their best to portray these messed-up characters, the story fails them big time. This episode also shows us just how much potential Gun and Ju-yeon have and how it could have been the highlight of the drama if the writers had not resorted to giving her such a toxic, unredeemable introduction.
And okay, while she is not Sae-yan’s half-sister, how much do you guys want to bet that Hyo-myeong is the patient who killed Ju-yeon’s father? Talk about predictability and a waste of time which could have otherwise been allotted to explore Sae-yan’s dynamic with the Lee brothers. We doubt the final two episodes can fix this mess of a show but guess we will keep going for Jaejoong who deserves much better like his character in this K-drama.
