That Song In My Head
Episode 6 of Atri: My Dear Moments begins with Natsuki helps a new female student with her assignment. Atri arrives and shows concern for Natsuki. Natsuki tells Atri everything is fine. He tells her to return to her classroom. Hanako arrives and drags Atri back to class. Meanwhile, Minamo and Ryuuji discuss Natsuki’s new teacher status.
Ryuuji argues many students attend this school because someone spread a rumor about a new hot teacher working there. Ryuuji teases a girl named Yoko about it. Yoko promises Ryuuji that she’s only attending this school because the electricity works here now. Then, Yoko introduces herself to Minamo.
Yoko tells Minamo that if she needs help with anything to ask her. Yoko and Ryuuji argue about Ryuuji’s role in getting the school’s electricity working. Later, Natsuki and his friends go on a salvage mission. Natsuki and Atri explore the ocean while Minamo and Ryuuji chat on the boat. Ryuuji argues why it’s good to have a salvage business.
Then, Ryuuji urges Minamo to confess her feelings to Natsuki. He warns her that more female students will be attending their school soon. Meanwhile, Atri finds a gold watch and a crab. Natsuki and his friends greet their customer and give him the gold watch. The man supplies Natsuki and his friends with watermelons.
After the customer leaves, Atri tells Ryuuji and Minamo that Natsuki is smiling more often than normal. Ryuuji thinks it’s because many females are attending their school. He argues Natsuki is happy because he is thrilled about developing a harem. The three discuss the situation more.
After that, Ryuuji suggests he and Atri bring the watermelons to Ririka and the others. Atri refuses, but Natsuki tells Atri to go with Ryuuji and says it’s an order. Ryuuji and Atri depart, leaving Minamo and Natsuki alone. Natsuki asks Minamo questions about Atri and her Humanoid build. He argues Atri might be the first Humanoid with human-like emotions installed in her system.
Natsuki remembers Atri’s smile from a previous chapter. He wants to treat Atri like a human. Later, Atri returns to Natsuki’s home and eats dinner with him. Meanwhile, Ryuuji and Minamo discuss Natsuki at a dock. Minamo argues Natsuki is in a good mood because of Atri. Ryuuji puts two and two together and thinks Natsuki’s in love with Atri.
Minamo argues Natsuki isn’t in love with Atri. She thinks it’s something else entirely. Later, Atri writes something in her log and Natsuki wants to know what she’s writing. Atri says Natsuki can’t look inside because it’s against the rules to look inside a girl’s diary. Atri and Natsuki argue over Atri’s strange diary-storing methods.
Yoko and Ryuuji discuss Natsuki’s situation at school. Then, they meet with Hanako on the rooftop to discuss this situation more. Hanako offers them advice. After further discussion, Hanako says she’ll try to uncover the truth about Natsuki’s romantic endeavors. She whispers a plan into Yoko’s ear and says Yoko must pull something off by next Sunday.
Then, another pair of customers visit Minamo, Atri, and Natsuki’s salvage shop on Sunday. They’re not happy with the item Natsuki and his friends salvaged. Natsuki tampers with his boat more and Yoko greets him. Yoko confesses her love for Natsuki and Natsuki ignores her. Yoko pesters Natsuki more about the girls he likes.
She brings up Atri and this gets a reaction out of Natsuki. Yoko asks Natsuki more questions about his relationship with Atri. Hanako intervenes and tells Natsuki to tell Yoko the truth. Yoko, Ryuuji, and Minamo regroup at the school. Yoko tells Minamo Natsuki was smitten by an older woman in the past.
We enter a flashback featuring a young Natsuki. He’s currently disabled and heads toward a cliff. Yoko discusses things with her friends during the flashback. She tells Ryuuji and Minamo that the woman Nastuki fell in love with saved his life during this flashback. Yoko says Natsuki confirmed this woman was five years older than he was in the flashback.
Natsuki says he was nine in the flashback. Yoko describes this woman’s appearance. Minamo ponders these details and Atri arrives. The three interrogate Atri about her past experiences with Natsuki. Atri hears someone playing a song on a piano. She and the others head toward the music. They see Natsuki playing the song in front of Ririka, Hanako, and the others.
After that, Natsuki tells Hanako a special person taught him this song. Minamo and her friends confront Natsuki about his first love. Natsuki ensures them that Atri isn’t the same person he admires. He lists why that’s the case. Eventually, Natsuki and Atri return home and bid farewell to Ryuuji and Minamo.
Atri leaps toward a specific spot on the boat and sings. Natsuki recalls the song from his past. It’s the same one his first love sang. The episode ends with Atri telling Natsuki it’s been a while.
The Episode Review
It appears Atri was Natsuki’s first love. While this is shocking to Natsuki’s core friend group, most audiences won’t share a similar reaction. This reveal wasn’t surprising. This story gave fans many hints that this was the case. From subtle flashbacks to peculiar remarks, many viewers saw the writing on the wall.
Yet, many fans will love Atri and Natsuki’s special moment together near the episode’s finale. From Atri’s enchanting singing voice to Natsuki’s heartfelt reaction, it’ll be hard to deny that moment didn’t leave an impression. Now that the truth is out there, it’ll be interesting to see how Natsuki and Atri’s interactions will differ in the future.
Will their master and student relationship remain? Will they abandon their companionship and pursue romance? Only time will tell. While that moment was heartfelt and memorable, this chapter’s pacing wasn’t too great. For example, the flashback involving young Natsuki on the cliff felt rushed and glossed over.
We’re optimistic the anime will revisit that scenario given the route the story’s heading toward. However, it’d be great if the chapter sat with that flashback some more here. But all in all, this was a nice showcase from Atri: My Dear Moments. I’m anticipating the next chapter will delve deeper into Atri’s past with Natsuki.
