Asura – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Feeling the Pain

Episode 6 of Asura starts with Takiko and Makiko arriving at the hospital to visit Jinnai. It turns out that Jinnai had already been discharged, but Sakiko did not inform the sisters. Takiko thinks that Sakiko is selfish, as she has always been since their childhood, and Makiko agrees. At home, Jinnai’s mother and her group continue to chant Buddhist prayers. Jinnai gets agitated and chases them out of the house.

Makiko arrives during the commotion, and her coat gets stained. Sakiko asks Makiko not to tell the sisters about her situation, which worries her since she feels she has to hide her problems from the girls instead of choosing to lean on them. Later, Makiko arrives home to find Takao and the kids enjoying a video taken when Yoko and Akagi were playing tennis earlier. Makiko struggles to rein in her emotions, seeing that Yoko still spends time and is fond of Akagi. She is even angrier because Takao keeps overstepping and letting the kids do things she would normally let them do.

Next, Toyoko invites Katsumata to Masukawa and offers him a job to investigate her husband. The husband then pulls him aside later, paying him twice what the wife had paid, and asks him not to investigate. At home, Katsumata shares his dilemma with Makiko, Tsunako, and Takiko. After sending Takiko to look for some more wine, Makiko and Tsunako tell Katsumata not to investigate since the other woman he is to look for is Tsunako.

Elsewhere, Jinnai seems in good shape and is getting ready for his next match. Although everyone, including his fans and media, fuss over the upcoming title match, Sakiko cannot help but worry. Later, she suggests that Jinnai quit boxing, but he insists on the next match. He says that he is close to winning the world title and cannot give up now.

Makiko continues to push Tsunako to get married so she can break up with her married boyfriend. She sends her a photo of a probable match and plans the marriage meet-up. On that day, Takao has something to do at work, so he cannot accompany them. Tsunako, Makiko, and the potential husband go to a play that gets Tsunako emotional. She runs out of the theatre and calls Masukawa’s residence. She gets a young man to pose as a reporter from Play Golf when the wife picks up and asks her to get the husband.

Tsunako chooses to stay with the boyfriend. She accuses Makiko of letting out her frustrations about Takao’s cheating on her. She tells Makiko that he should tell the man she is already in love with another man and she does not plan on leaving him. She tells Makiko that even their father decided to get back with the mistress. Tsunako chooses her happiness even when the same might seem shameful and unacceptable to other people.

Meanwhile, Jinnai fights in the featherweight world elimination match. However, he gets injured during the match and is rushed to the hospital. When Takiko learns about it, she feels guilty. She has always been frustrated about Sakiko showing off her wealth, so she admits that she sometimes wished something bad could happen to Jinnai. Takiko starts blaming herself for what happened, but Katsumata assures her she is not to blame. It is okay for sisters to get jealous of each other, but when they are sad, they feel each other’s pain.

With one more episode to go, the writers have smoothly progressed the plot, and there are not many pending questions. So far, only Makiko’s marriage and the alleged cheating are still unresolved. It begs the question, is Takao cheating?

Is Akagi the mistress? With one more episode to go, will Makiko finally confront Takao or choose to keep everything bottled up until the end?
