No U-Turn
Episode 2 of Asaf begins with Asaf in interrogation and the detective playing the call between Asaf and Captain Argun. The detective insists they will wait for Asaf’s lawyer before checking the trunk of his car. Surprisingly, Asaf seems confident. What happened between when we last saw him and the arrest?
We circle back to where we left off in the last episode. Asaf gives the officer his identification document and acts like the young boy in his car is his son. The officer lets Asaf off without bothering to check anything else.
On the way, they stop, and Asaf tries to get more answers from the boy. The young boy insists he doesn’t know his parents and is hoping Asaf will take him to them. As expected, Asaf takes the boy to Sema and begs her to watch him.
The young boy starts playing with Atlas, but scares him into believing the cops are coming for his dad. Asaf lies that he is babysitting for his friends from work, but he has an emergency. Sema is hurt that Asaf has time to take care of strange kids instead of his own. He promises to sign the divorce papers when he gets back.
Asaf calls Payen Kuyern and threatens to go to the police and spill the tea. At home, Sema tries to play with the new boy and he gives her his bracelet. Asaf meets with Murat, who is having a dilemma of his own. He has been sleeping with Mertem, his boss’s girl, and now she is pregnant. He begs Asaf to lend him his car, but the former refuses.
Murat is hurt, and as they argue, Captain Argun’s phone starts ringing from the trunk. Murat gets out to check what is going on since Asaf is acting like he can’t hear it. Once Murat alights, Asaf high tails out of there. He later checks the Captain’s phone and picks up the call.
The man, on the other end, advises Asaf to deal with the body before he calls the police on him. Asaf texts the number back and notes it has been saved as Cüneyt. He rummages through Captain Argun’s pocket and finds a USB. He heads home to check it on his laptop and learns more about Payen Kuyern’s dark dealings.
Armed with this new information, Asaf heads to the police station. As he waits, Cüneyt approaches him. It turns out he is also the man who hit Asaf’s car. He threatens Asaf against telling the truth. He informs Asaf that he will be free sooner if he remains silent about Payen Kuyern.
The detective in charge arrives, and it is at this point that Asaf learns Cüneyt is a high-ranking police officer. He decides it is better to keep quiet and leaves. He gets a call from Atlas, who is worried that Asaf will be arrested. Asaf assures him that he is okay and will be home soon. They reminisce about the beach trip, and he promises to buy his son another kite.
Asaf drives to a secluded lake and throws Captain Argun’s body after weighing it down with stones. He is consumed by guilt and anger as he thinks about how he ended up here. He gets a message that his driver’s account has been terminated due to his low ratings. Later, Asaf leaves his car at his place, changes, and heads back to Sema’s place. Before he can say much, he is arrested.
Meanwhile, the police continue looking for Captain Argun. The police arrest Asaf, and Atlas is consumed with sadness. At the station, Sema calls Harun to help Asaf. Once Harun arrives, Cüneyt and his partner interrogate Asaf about his last meeting with Captain Argun.
They ask about the wounds in his hands, and Asaf claims it was an accident. He refuses to talk about his conversation with Captain Argun and acts like he has no idea the captain is gone. He only insists that maybe Captain Argun is involved with Payen Kuyern. Cüneyt plays the tape of Asaf’s last call to Captain Argun and the other call threatening someone to come get his stuff out of his trunk.
The police find Asaf’s car with Murat and confiscate it. They also bring in Mertem and Murat, who were in the car. It turns out Murat took the car without Asaf’s knowledge. However, they know nothing about the captain or what is going on with Asaf.
The police check Asaf’s trunk and find a box full of cash. It turns out that Asaf used the information on the USB to pick a package for Cüneyt. Once the police open Asaf’s trunk, Cüneyt gets a call from Payen Kuyern, thanking him for his services.
The Episode Review
Asaf has been playing defence since the first episode, but thanks to Captain Argun’s USB, he has changed to offence. He knew that the police would find him sooner or later and prepared to set Cüneyt up for the fall. Now the ball is in Cüneyt’s corner. Depending on how he handles this situation, his career might sink or remain afloat.
As of now, the police don’t know the captain is dead, so they are not going to hold Asaf. However, they might have questions about the money in his trunk. I am sure Cüneyt doesn’t want this, so he will figure out a way to help Asaf out. The plot is getting thicker and we still don’t know more about Nasuh and
his company. Who else is in this organisation, and what will Asaf do next since he has all the information at his fingertips?
