One Way
Episode 1 of Asaf begins with a man parking his car and anxiously calling someone. He turns when he hears the phone ringing from the boot of his car. He opens the boot and finds the body of a dead man. This was the man he was trying to call, so who killed him?
We circle back to the day this whole drama started. Asaf receives a call from an angry client asking why he is late and daring him to cancel his ride. Asaf rushes to pick up the client and barely gets there on time.
However, due to the heavy traffic, the client gets more angry. The client is also annoyed by Asaf’s chattiness. As they wait in traffic, another car bumps into their car. The man tries to drive off, surprising Asaf. He gets out and signals the man to get out of his car.
A man dressed in all black alights from the expensive black SUV and checks the damage to Asaf’s car. At first, he tries to walk away, but when Asaf mentions the police, the man gives him a wad of cash and a business card. He asks Asaf to contact him if the money is not enough to take care of the damages.
Later, Asaf drops by his son’s school and finds his wife picking the boy up. She is angry that Asaf forgot to pick up their son and was unreachable. They are in the middle of a divorce and can’t agree on visitation.
Asaf profusely apologises, but his wife, Sema, is not having it. She reminds him to sign the divorce papers and lie to Atlas that he didn’t forget. Asaf tries to cheer Atlas up by promising to take him to the beach to fly a kite like old times. However, when he asks his wife if she remembers how fun their kite experience was, she says no and drives off.
Asaf then heads to the garage and is shocked by the system there. The garage insists he has to wait until the following day to get his car inspected. When he asks to have his car back, the manager says that is impossible. The car is already in their system, and Asaf has to pay for the inspection, even though it is not done yet.
Asaf explains that he has a sick son in need of a heart. They had a heart donor, but the hospital gave the heart to someone else. Sema blamed Asaf for this and filed for a divorce because he didn’t want to sue the hospital. He begs the manager to give him a payment plan, and he agrees.
After leaving the garage, Asaf visits his mom, and they argue about the neighbours knocking the garden wall down. Asaf’s mom is angry with him for not fighting back. She is so angry, she couldn’t care if Asaf had an accident. She tells him to figure his life out since a lawyer dropped a subpoena. She suggests that Asaf calls his brother. The documents allow Asaf only one week to prove he is capable of providing for his son.
Backed in a corner, Asaf visits his old boss, Muzaffer, to ask for his old job back. However, he changes his mind after talking to Meltem, his boss’s girlfriend. She starts flirting with him, making him uncomfortable. He decides to visit Sema but finds her in the middle of dinner with her new boyfriend, Harun.
Harun is a lawyer willing to handle Sema’s case against the police. Sema thinks he is a man of action, unlike Asaf. She refuses to acknowledge Asaf is trying his best. She asks him to pick his things up before she sells and vacates the house.
The next day, Asaf visits his brother at the bank where he works. He plans to get a loan from the bank, but his brother demeans him. Angry, Asaf leaves and returns to the garage to pick up his car. This time, the manager insists he has to pay a parking fee and wait for someone to get his car from the warehouse. Unfortunately, Asaf is left with no choice but to give the manager his wedding ring.
He heads out to the address listed on the business card and demands to talk to the man who hit his car. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the man’s name, and the secretary won’t help him. Asaf leaves to calm down in his car.
Unfortunately, he gets a call from Harun reminding him that Sema is waiting for him at home. Harun suggests that instead of being Atlas a kite, he wants to buy him a drone. He makes it look like he is offering help, but he is just mocking Asaf.
As he sits in the car park, Asaf sees the car that hit him. He calls the office to give them the car’s number plate, but the secretary insists they can’t give him personal information.
Frustrated, Asaf takes his anger on the car, bashing the windows and the hood. He is arrested, and this is where he meets Captain Argun, who tries to understand Asaf’s situation. He is also hoping Asaf knows more about Nasuh, the owner of the car. There is a misunderstanding, as Captain Argun assumes Asaf works for Nasuh. The Captain encourages Asaf to find out more about Nasuh since knowledge is power.
After leaving the station, Asaf takes a cab back to the company where he left his car. He is directed to meet with Nasuh, who is curious as to why Asaf attacked his car. Asaf explains it was an accident and Nasuh insists that his driver didn’t hit Asaf’s car. Asaf looks around and can’t find the man who hit him. Nasuh demands payment for the car damage.
When Asaf explains he is a driver, Nasuh offers Asaf a job to deliver a package and settle his debt. Asaf tries to ask more questions, and Nasuh loses his patience. Asaf leaves and calls the Captain to share the new developments. They agree to meet, and once they do, Captain Argun forces Asaf to take the job at Payen Kuyern. He is setting Asaf to take Payen Kuyern down.
This is how Asaf finds himself driving to pick up the mysterious package. On his way, he sends the location to Captain Argun and waits for him to drive. However, the Captain runs late, and Asaf calls him.
Unfortunately, someone killed Captain Argun and hid his body in Asaf’s car. Asaf is shaken after seeing the corpse. He realises he mentioned Captain Argun to Nasuh. Before he can gather his wits, a police car shows up. Asaf rushes inside his car and finds a young boy who claims to be his package.
The Episode Review
I am starting to think maybe Asaf would have been better off just walking away. At the start of the start of the episode, one gets a sense that Asaf is a calm man. He is going through a lot, but he is optimistic and hates confrontations.
This is why his wife is trying to divorce him, and his mom keeps comparing him to his big-shot brother. There is also Harun, who keeps flaunting his close relationship with Sema and how she is financially better off with him.
There are only so many things a man can take before he breaks down or flies off the handle. Asaf reached this point and wrecked Nasuh’s car. Now he has the dead body of a police captain in his trunk and a young boy who claims to be a package.
God knows who this young boy is and how much trouble Asaf is in. A man like Nasuh is wealthy enough to get away with anything. How will Asaf prove his innocence, and between the boy and the body, which will he handle first? This show looks thrilling, and without further ado, let’s get to the next episode.
