Art Of Love Plot Summary
Art of Love starts in Budapest with a group of highly skilled thieves orchestrating a successful art heist in a museum. The following morning, our female lead, an Interpol Agent from the Art Crimes Unit, Alin, and her partner, Ozan, arrive at the crime scene and find a stone, which is their lead in a series of art thefts they are investigating.
From their discussion of the case, we learn that the art thieves break into art museums and steal the most undervalued paintings, which leads Ozan to think that maybe the thief does not understand art, but Alin thinks that stealing undervalued paintings is part of the thief’s plan. Ozan used to work in the narcotics unit and used his superior investigation skills to provide Alin with crucial information. Using her knowledge of art, she managed to predict the thieves’ next target.
When does Alin recognise Güney?
Alin figures out that the next art piece the thieves will be after is arriving in Istanbul in four days and will be displayed in a museum for one day before being auctioned. Therefore, she predicts the thieves will most likely try to steal it during transfer or at the Museum.
Looking at their past heists, Alin is certain they will try to steal the painting at the Museum. Five days later, Alin and Ozan arrive at the Museum packed with visitors, and the alarms go off as soon as they enter, meaning that the thief has already stolen the painting in broad daylight. Alin notices a suspicious man leaving the Museum and runs after him, but she is shocked to see that the potential suspect is a person she knows intimately.
Güney Arat is Alin’s ex-fiancé who disappeared without a trace, making the police conclude his case as assumed dead. Alin was devastated after his death, and seeing him again brought back the memories. She returns to the Museum and confirms her suspicion after going through the security cameras. She takes the CCTV image to her superior, who does not believe her narrative since Guley is a billionaire who could easily buy all the paintings that have been stolen.
How does Alin become an Interpol Agent?
Ozan asks if Alin’s decision to become an agent is connected to Güney’s disappearance. She explains that after his disappearance, she moved to Paris to stay with her mother and avoid Güney in case he reached out. While in Paris, she became a consultant with Interpol to improve their Art Crime Unit; she enjoyed the work, decided to become a police officer, and joins the academy.
What is Alin’s plan to arrest Güney?
Alin plans to stage a coincidental meeting with Guley, get close to him, and eventually catch him red-handed. She and Güney run into each other at a party where the host introduces her as a curator who manages a prestigious Art Gallery in Paris. After the party, Güney tracks her down to her hotel and begs to have dinner with her. She explains everything that happened, and she agrees.
During the dinner, Güney explains that he decided to vanish because he was afraid of his overwhelming love for Alin. He apologises for his past mistakes and begs for a second chance, which Alin agrees to grant on condition that they are honest with each other. After returning to her hotel room, Alin thinks she has everything under control and can execute her plan to get close to Güney and get the necessary evidence to put him behind bars.
What was the real reason behind Güney’s disappearance?
In a plot twist, we learn that Güney already knew that Alin works for Interpol and purposely planned the heights, leaving clues only she can solve with hopes of running into her again. He explains that the real reason behind his disappearance is that he was arrested in Mexico and had a horrible experience in jail.
When he was released from prison, he immediately looked for Alin but was surprised to realise she now worked with Interpol. Therefore, he could not introduce himself to her again because he is a thief and she is a police officer.
After disappearing for three years, he did a press conference to get back on the grid, let Alin know he was back, and then started the elaborate mission of stealing artwork to get Alin on his radar. He thought that she would automatically know he was a thief through the investigations, and after the realisation, he planned to get close to her now that she knew he was a thief and make her fall in love with him again.
Do Alin And Güney get back together?
As the film progresses, Faysal’s men are after Alin and Güney. They escape from the office using a helicopter, and Güney takes her to his grandfather’s house, where all the paintings he stole are displayed. He further gives more reason behind stealing the paintings by telling Alin the story of his grandfather, a fantastic painter, but his work was never recognised. He also mentions that when they were dating, Alin mentioned that stolen paintings gained more recognition, which increased their value.
Suddenly, Faysal’s men arrive, and they escape towards the river, which is a dead end, but Güney does not tell her about it since he is more concerned about Alin telling him that she still loves him. Ultimately, she confesses her love and decides not to turn him in. Although Alin wonders how they will make their relationship work, Güney assures her they will figure it out together.
How does Art Of Love end?
Faysal and his men chase Alin and Güney to the river but reach a dead end. He stands across from them, and he threatens by shooting across Güney’s ear, making him momentarily partially deaf. Faysal is about to shoot them when Ozan arrives with reinforcements and arrests Faysal.
He had earlier mentioned that he had chased Faysal for a long time when he was a narcotics officer but failed to arrest him due to lack of evidence. However, when Güney breaks into his vault, he accidentally stumbles upon significant evidence, which he gives to Ozen, and he finally has enough evidence to arrest Faysal.
This is one of those films that leave you asking yourself, “What was the reason?” because nothing in this film makes sense. The premise that the main characters are past lovers who reignite their feelings for each other is so farfetched since you will neither feel the chemistry nor experience any emotions that will make you believe their notion that they were so in love with each other that it scared them.
There are so many plot holes in every scene that it reaches a point where you will stop trying to see logic by turning your brain off. You will probably enjoy the costumes, flashy cars, and billionaire life… but do not look for logic, thrill, or entertainment here!
