Anberlin always paints pictures within their musical frame as they direct their sound to the rock frenzy. Vega is their statement, an album solid in guitar trickery and lyrics that serve up as anecdotes, little morsels of regret and sometimes hopelessness. This album is louder than normal as screams hit the sound, and the anger keeps on propelling.

The act means business, opting for serious notes and a blizzard of rapid moments, creating a mammoth story which augments into a full-throttle fable of rage and sorrow. It is hard to pull away from this, as it has a stronghold on the emotions.

‘Animals’ begins the record with a sturdy riff that progresses. The vocals pierce through the drama, gifting us a song of pure adrenaline. The lyrics describe a life caving in, and the imminence of death.

‘Circles’ opens slowly. The vocals are serene, and the tones rise frenetically, pushing the instrumentals forward. Lyrically, the band looks for peace and tranquillity in a breaking world.

‘Nothing Lost’ begins like a loop of musical brilliance, preserving the beauty of Anberlin’s output. The crash of guitars and percussion increases the tension and the lyrics are poignantly conveyed.

Anberlin shows they’re still in the race. Their music always has that edge and an emotive balance of composure.
