In Am I Actually The Strongest? season 1, a 20-year-old named Haruto has been reincarnated into another universe as a prince of the empire, and his story is the focus of the comedy-drama’s plot. Fortunately, Haruto can still use barrier magic and has his old memories, despite being trapped inside a newborn’s body.
Haruto is cared for by the Zenfis family for nine years. Although Haruto would prefer not to make use of his overwhelming barrier magic for the benefit of others, he is becoming more and more proficient with it every day. He keeps his magical practices to himself, wanting his family to think less of him.
Nevertheless, when Charlotte, his younger sister, learns of his power, Haruto shields her and the other Zenfis family members from danger with Flay’s help. Haruto wants nothing more than to sit indoors and watch anime while a shady scheme unfolds throughout the kingdom, but it appears he will need to use power to protect the household that took him in.
In the first several minutes of the pilot episode, the intriguing premise of the show is revealed. However, as the episodes proceed, the show gets exceedingly dull and monotonous.
The show’s biggest shortcoming is the character development and story arcs. The tale’s primary protagonist is both emotionally weak and uninteresting. There is no discernible development in him throughout the season. Additionally, he has a lot of strength, but no Achilles heal whatsoever. His foes are always effortlessly defeated, to the point where their defeat is predicted. All of the drama and suspense has been sucked out of the show because of this.
Flay, Charlotte, and Mr. Zenfis are examples of forgettable supporting cast members. Their arcs are pretty dull because Flay is overly dependent on Haruto’s approval, Charlotte is exceedingly immature, and Mr. Zenfis doesn’t actually contribute anything to the stories.
The show’s backstory is one of the things that drew me to it. However, the mythology is barely developed, and we only receive crumbs of it. The show could have been more enjoyable if it had delved into the mythology.
As a whole, the show’s visual style, color grading, and mood all fall short of expectations. Despite the show’s promising premise, it fails to impress in any way.
Overall, this anime was a letdown, despite its promising beginning. Avoid this one because of its dull plot, uninteresting characters, mediocre design, and underdeveloped mythology.
