All American – Season 6 Episode 1 Recap & Review

Episode 1 of All American season 6 picks up over a year after season 5, showing Spencer dominating on the field. Spencer, a star wide receiver, is even in the running for the Heisman award. There’s buzz that he might enter the NFL draft this year and leave the GAU. Jordan, Spencer’s teammate, is also eligible for the draft, but he’s not getting the same media attention as Spencer. Jordan feels he deserves more recognition, which is bothering him.

As the episode goes on, Coach Kenny, who is also Spencer’s uncle, warns Spencer not to lose focus, especially now when it’s a critical time in Spencer’s career. Spencer’s girlfriend and love of his life, Olivia, is due to return from London in a couple of days, and Spencer wants to throw her a perfect welcome-back party.

For that, he has enlisted the help of Patience, Layla, and Coop to decorate the house. Layla is gearing up to open her new club, while Patience is preparing to perform for the first time since the tragic attack by Mico Scott. Tension rises when a news report reveals that the prosecution can no longer use the video showing Mico stabbing Patience because it was handled by an unauthorized person.

Without the video, the case might become a matter of conflicting testimonies, and there’s a chance Mico could be acquitted. At Layla’s soon-to-be-open club, she appears anxious. When her business partner, Ryan, asks about it, she brushes it off, attributing it to stress over the opening. Patience is also visibly worried. Whenever someone inquires about her well-being, she appears agitated.

And why wouldn’t she? With the video evidence now thrown out, there’s a real possibility that her attacker could go free. Thus, Layla decides to hire extra security guards and install expensive cameras. When Ryan asks about this, Layla avoids answering, but Ryan realizes that Layla’s concerns are related to Patience.

Spencer is excited to reunite with Olivia but also feels anxious and worried. He asks Laura to join him when he goes to pick Olivia up from the airport, but she declines, citing urgent work at the University. If you missed out on season 5, Olivia was originally supposed to be in London for a three-month internship but extended it to a year.

This change makes Spencer fear that their relationship might have changed too. At the University, Principal Gutenberg visits Jordan and Spencer, requesting to see Boone in person to discuss the boosters. Boone declines, stating he has practice with his students.

Olivia arrives a day early to surprise Spencer and attend Layla’s club opening. She also seems nervous and anxious to meet Spencer after almost a year. Spencer notices that Olivia has changed her hairstyle, but before they can talk more, Ryan takes Olivia away, saying Layla needs her in the changing room.

Tension rises when Patience has a panic attack and can’t perform. Ryan is unhappy because he has been counting on Patience’s performance to rope in more audience. Luckily, Coop steps in and entertains the crowd with her amazing performance.

At the house, Spencer and Olivia find themselves alone and convey their enduring love for each other despite not seeing each other for a year. Spencer mentions he’s excited to get to know the new Olivia. Elsewhere, Patience also returns to Layla, reassuring her that what happened wasn’t Layla’s fault but solely Mico’s.

As the episode nears its end, Gutenberg introduces Boone to Terence MacClelland, who is joining the coaching team as an analyst. However, Boone realizes that Gutenberg has started preparations to remove him from his position.

The Episode Review

Season 6 of All American is off to a great start! But, as we’ve learned from the past five seasons, smooth sailing isn’t exactly Spencer’s style. Spencer’s gearing up for the draft, and it seems like this might be the reason he and Olivia hit a rough patch.

Even though Olivia’s back in LA, her heart’s still across the pond in London. You can see it written all over her face – she’s itching to go back. Meanwhile, Principal Gutenberg’s got it out for Boone.

Will he succeed in getting rid of him? Guess we’ll find out in episode 2. No matter what happens, you can bet there’s going to be a boatload of drama!
