The Killer
Adoration episode 6 starts with Vanessa thinking back to all the times she saw Elena with random wounds on her body. Looking at the video of Enrico roughing Elena up has brought a new perspective on what might have happened to Elena.
Meanwhile, Gianmarco is reeling from his breakup with Vanessa and vents to Christian. He claims that Vanessa has started dressing and acting like Elena and it is driving him crazy. Christian scolds him when he says he thought of killing Vanessa. Christian understands Gianmarco’s frustration and admits he is struggling too. He can’t stop contacting Vera. On the other hand, Vera is trying to avoid him. In the end, Christian breaks up with Teresa and tries to start courting Vera.
Elsewhere, Diletta realises her 16-year-old daughter is dating a 38-year-old married man. She later confronts Claudio and asks him to break it off with Diana or she will tell his wife.
What does Vanessa do with the video?
She shows it to Chiara and tells her about all the occasions that Elena showed up with a wound and an excuse. However, Chiara says the video is not strong evidence or proof that Enrico killed Elena. Vanessa gets angry and accuses Chiara of not looking hard at Enrico because she wants to punish Girgio for what she did to Melissa.
At home, Vanessa continues to argue with her mom about her recent life choices. Manuela thinks Vanessa is wasting her life by dumping Giancarlo since he is rich. Her husband is sickened by her constant tantrums over Vanessa’s love life. Even Giancarlo’s mom tries to reach out to Vanessa to get her to get back with her son. However, Vanessa is starting to explore her sexuality and likes Arianna. In retrospect, it looks like Vanessa was in love with Elena but never realised it.
Vanessa leaves her angry mom and goes to her aunt to show Vera the video.
What happens to Giorgio?
He makes a call to his dad and agrees to take the summary judgement route in his defense. This means that he is renouncing his right to present circumstantial evidence and won’t bring any new witnesses. Although he is still angry with his dad, he accepts his help. When his mom and sister visit, he asks them to pass a letter of apology to Melissa.
Who killed Elena?
Disappointed by the police response to the video, Vanessa continues to investigate who gave Elena the drugs. Thanks to her connection to Arianna, she learns that one of Arianna’s friends, Ines. She rushes to tell the good news to Vera and her aunt but finds Enza and Manuela fighting. Enza is angry since Giorgio took the deal and now no new evidence, such as the fact that Elena got the drugs from Ines, can help him. The only way to save Giorgio is if the true killer confesses.
Angry, Vanessa visits Enrico’s house and finds Giancarlo there. Vanessa confronts Enrico, calling him a murderer, and Giancarlo tries to defend her as things get physical. He tries to convince Vanessa she is wrong. While comforting her, he tries to kiss her, and she pulls away. He then finally realises that things have changed between them. He accuses her of lying to him while she was in love with Elena all this time. He kicks her out but as he returns to Enrico’s room and sees him playing video games; he starts to question the truth.
A break comes when Enrico’s mom finds a ticket in their mail. On the night that Elena died, Enrico’s car was caught speeding. She confronts him and at first; he denies being out on that night. However, when she insists on the truth, Enrico opens up and admits to killing Elena. On that fateful night, he followed Elena and Giorgio to the school. Once Giorgio left, he confronted and strangled Elena to death. The worst part is he has no remorse and blames Elena for what happened. His mom is so shocked when he tells her that his dad knew all along and still protected him.
How does Adoration end?
Unable to look at her son and husband after what they did, the mom turns in the ticket to Chiara. The police move to arrest Enrico, and everyone comes to watch as he is taken away in handcuffs. The show ends with Vanessa remembering a fond memory of her and Elena singing at the karaoke.
The Episode Review
Enrico’s confession to his mom was bone-chilling for several reasons. First, he felt no remorse. Secondly, the way he justified his actions, calling Elena and slut and saying she deserved it, was jarring.
Lastly, his dad not only knew what Enrico did, but he was comfortable getting a lawyer for Giorgio to make sure Enrico got away with murdering his girlfriend. He sat in that restaurant and told Giorgio’s dad that the new lawyer knew what he was doing. In real sense, he was putting the noose around Giorgio’s neck and paying this lawyer to be the executioner. That is so cold and diabolical.
Femicide is an epidemic. So many women are losing their lives at the hands of men. However, Enrico’s mom showed exemplary parenting when she came forward and gave police the evidence they needed. So many cases go awry because no one speaks up. It was very brave of her to choose the truth over her son.
The last scene cemented our suspicions that Vanessa was in love with Elena. Sadly, she realised this too late. Throughout this whole ordeal, Vanessa did her best to be a good friend to Elena. She was the only one who worked tirelessly to find the truth. Elena was lucky to have a friend like Vanessa in her corner.
