9-1-1 – Season 8 Episode 6 ″Confessions” Recap & Review

Confessions

Episode 6 of 9-1-1 season 8 starts with the 118 and Athena helping a couple. The wife is tired of her husband putting his dead mom first and threatens to dispose of her mother-in-law’s ashes from a rooftop. Athena manages to talk the woman down, but the husband accidentally breaks the vase when confronting his wife. Thankfully, the woman is finally getting a divorce from this man.

Elsewhere, Eddie visits a church and confesses to the Father that he is struggling. The events that led to his fight with Christopher have been tormenting him. He also misses his son so much. He is conflicted when the Father listens and suggests he say a prayer.

At the same time, Chimney and Maddie worry their daughter misses Mara. Maddie suggests that it might be time to have another kid. This takes Chimney by surprise.

At a restaurant, Buck and Tommy are on a date to celebrate their six-month anniversary. Tommy tells Buck that he almost married a woman. They were engaged for two years before Tommy called it off. Tommy acknowledges that he learnt that the ex started dating a younger man.

However, the twist is that Tommy was engaged to Abby. You know the woman who changed Buck for the better! And yes, when Tommy says that Abby started dating a young himbo after their breakup, he is unknowingly talking about Buck. As expected, Buck is too stunned to speak.

The next day, the team is called to a divorce lawyer’s office. The man about to divorce his wife literally sneezes his guts out while lying. He sneezes when he lies and he recently got an appendix surgery and his guts spill out since he sneezes a lot during the meeting.  The meeting triggers something in Buck as he worries how Tommy could lie to Abby for two years.

As usual, he goes to Maddie and spills his guts to Maddie and Josh drink up the tea he is serving. Josh advises Buck not to judge Tommy because things were different for Tommy back then as a gay man. They also realise that Buck has serious feelings for Tommy and is scared of getting hurt. Also, can Josh get Buck to watch Glee?

That night, Chimney is unable to sleep. He tells Maddie he is worried that she will go through postpartum depression again. The last time she got pregnant, she nearly died, and they almost broke up. Maddie says that she is sure things might be different this time. Chimney promises to think about it and they decide they will work through the hurdles together.

However, Chimney changes his mind after being called to a case of a young boy fallen into a pipe. He witnesses how the older brother did all it took and even offered to go down the pipe to save his brother. He realises that G having a sibling is not a bad thing.

He tells Maddie that he is ready, and she informs him that she is already pregnant. They decide to be transparent with each other during the pregnancy. Maddie asks Chimney not to treat her like she is broken during the pregnancy.

In the meantime, Eddie runs into the priest at a restaurant. The priest notices that Eddie has been denying himself joy because he feels unworthy. He advises Eddie to stop punishing himself and fix things. To do that, Eddie needs to forgive himself and earn it from those he hurt.

After a long day, Buck and Tommy meet at his house. Buck comes clean about Abby. He tells him how Abby changed his life and that he feels the same way about Tommy. He asks Tommy to move in, but the latter turns him down.

He explains that Buck is only starting to explore his sexuality. He is the first man that Buck has dated, and he is not sure things will work out if they move in together. In the end, Tommy breaks up with Buck. Damn!

In the meantime, Eddie shaves his moustache. Thank God! He starts to embrace the priest’s advice. He starts dancing around the house in his underwear and shirt. The episode ends with a sad Buck dropping by to share a beer with his best friend and grieving his relationship with Tommy.

The Episode Review

Who knew that all it would take for Eddie to shave his moustache was a talk with the priest? Anyway, Eddie has been suffering a lot this season. His broken relationship with Christopher has caused him a lot of guilt and grief. What he did was wrong and Christopher had every right to be mad.

However, Eddie is willing to pay for his mistakes and is deeply remorseful. Doesn’t that count for something? I hope he and Christopher will be able to fix their relationship.

What a twist with that Buck and Tommy break up! We didn’t see this one coming. We can understand Tommy’s concern and why he is not ready to move in. I don’t think they should have broken up over it. Is this the end of the road for them, or will they get a second chance?

Lastly, congratulations to Maddie and Chimney. We are getting another cute baby on the show and I hope everything goes well. Maddie suffered a lot from postpartum depression last time. This is why Chimney is sacred. However, they are one of the strongest couples on this show and they will figure things out if it happens again.
