Tunic is a beautifully colorful and charming isometric action and adventure game. It’s a game full of life and exploration with an eye-catching toy-like approach to character and environment design. Like other titles that had inspired it, Tunic features a plethora of puzzles to solve and many mysteries to uncover.

So without further ado, we present 8 games to check out if you’re looking for a game like Tunic.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a rare title in the franchise. It offers similar gameplay to classic 2D and top-down The Legend of Zelda games but adds a level of wackiness and charm not found in other titles. This has to do with its variety of homages to other Nintendo franchises.

Besides typical The Legend of Zelda enemies, you’ll encounter adversaries like Goombas, Chain Chomps, Bloopers, etc. This game also has a Super Mario Maker-like gimmick, where you can create your own dungeons and position enemies on the grid to your liking.

Like Tunic, this game is solely a single-player title that focuses on the adventure of its protagonist. You’ll find yourself fighting enemies while needing to solve the game’s various puzzles to proceed. Both games offer a great deal of challenge forcing the player to ponder their actions.

Evoland

Evoland serves as the swan song between 2D and 3D action-adventure video games. Like Tunic, you’ll embark on a quest that will require you to attain new technology and power-ups to defeat your swarm of enemies. The graphical upgrades in this game will allow you to experience Evoland from a monochrome aesthetic to full 3D graphics.

Unlike Tunic, the gameplay in Evoland is more robust. It leans toward active time battles to real-time boss fights. The game also features references to classic action-adventure titles and its dialogue is full of humorous jokes that will crack you up.

At the same time, Evoland features a slew of challenging puzzles akin to games like Tunic and The Legend of Zelda. Its levels also contain a variety of secrets for players to discover. The game also features collectibles in the form of stars. This allows the game to maintain a solid length of replayability.

If you’re looking for an action-adventure game that serves as an homage to classic action-adventure titles, check out Evoland.

Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft is one of the most popular and profitable gaming franchises of all time. Although it started as a person’s passion project, it became a grandiose sensation that influenced the lives of many individuals–young and old. Yet the greatest selling video game franchise decided to dip its toes into new genres to freshen up its brand.

Enter Minecraft Dungeons, a dungeon-crawler action-adventure game that aimed to deliver a new yet familiar experience to its fandom. Like Tunic, Minecraft Dungeons is a homage to classic adventure games of the same genre and features an alluring story, colorful world, and wonderful characters.

In Minecraft Dungeons, players must create a character who will take part in an epic quest to save the villagers from the evil Arch-Illager. Players can take part in this venture alone or with three other players offline or online. The game also features over 200+ unique artefacts, gear, and enchantments for the players to unlock and utilize in combat.

If you’re looking to break free from the typical gameplay loop the original game offers, then try your hand at Minecraft Dungeons.

Eastward

If you’re looking for a more futuristic adventure with an engaging storyline, Eastward has you covered. This game offers beautiful pixel art visuals, an intriguing protagonist, and a fleshed-out world. Like Tunic, this game is an action-adventure title where players will visit different areas and tackle formidable beastly adversaries.

While the graphics may not suit everyone, they’re immaculate and detailed enough to keep you hooked with the events that transpire throughout the game. Eastward’s story tackles mature topics while also offering adult-like humor. This game allows you to play as two protagonists, each having different weapons and abilities for you to test out.

Eastward takes place in a broken society where the human population has reached its lowest. This is because a toxic substance had been spread across the land, eating and decimating everything in its way. To combat this toxin, some civilians flocked to the underground to establish villages.

This is where your journey begins, as you’ll follow the heartbreaking and hopeful quest between a hardworking miner and a mysterious small girl.

Bastion

Bastion is a beloved action RPG with a fascinating world, stellar atmosphere, and great gameplay. In this title, you take control of its protagonist, The Kid, who must explore an apocalyptic setting full of dangerous creatures and enemies.

During your adventure, you must collect shards to power up the game’s most profound structure, the Bastion. Like Tunic, Bastion’s combat is simple and repetitive. You’ll find yourself slashing your way through hordes of enemies while traveling across this game’s various maps. Each map looks mesmerizing, thanks to the game’s hand-painted environments.

Like its controls, Bastion’s story is simple but tackles emotional subjects like hate, grief, and forgetfulness. There’s also an overarching narrator who’ll share knowledge about the game’s environment before its apocalyptic nature. The narration isn’t annoying or overbearing, as you’ll find yourself wishing the game allowed you to explore its world before everything went down the gutter.

This is a beautifully mesmerizing game that will hook you and one worth playing if you enjoyed your time with Tunic.

Hob

Hob is an action-adventure game full of suspense and intrigue. It presents its story through visuals as the game contains little to no dialogue or text. You’re meant to piece together the narrative as you progress through the game’s world through the eyes of its protagonist, Hob.

As Hob, you’ll encounter a slew of puzzles, enemies, and obstacles during your adventure. There are also peaceful lifeforms scattered throughout this world that you can interact with. Like Tunic, you’ll unlock newer locations, puzzles, and enemies to discover and conquer as you progress through the game.

The combat in Hob is slightly better than Tunic’s, though. In Hob, you’ll be able to grapple and deal massive blows to foes, thanks our hero’s mechanical glove-arm abilities. This allows the combat to feel and appear appealing to players. The puzzles in this game aren’t too challenging, either.

If you’re looking for an action-adventure game with a unique approach to storytelling, check out Hob.

Garden Story

Garden Story is a charming-pixelated action RPG with a wholesome atmosphere, beautiful visuals, and a remarkable fruitful protagonist. The game itself may not be as challenging as Tunic, but it offers similar challenges that Tunic fans will adore.

For instance, Garden Story’s gameplay consists of using solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and participating in agricultural-like activities to improve upon your home village. Like Tunic, you’ll gradually reveal this world’s hidden secrets and lore as you progress. This game grants players immense freedom and allows them to tackle the game’s various objectives at their own pace.

Whether you want to spend time fishing or fighting bad guys is up to you. Furthermore, this game offers a pleasing “perish prevention” mode, allowing you to zoom past enemies easier. While this mode may appeal to a niche audience, it shows how wonderfully accessible this title is. If you want to embark on a relaxing and memorable adventure as a Concord, check out Garden Story.

Hyper Light Drifter

As you for another challenging and visually stunning adventure game full of mystery? Look no further than Hyper Light Drifter. This action-adventure RPG is suspenseful, colorful, and exhilarating. Like Tunic, this game promises to immerse you from start to finish.

In this game, players control a wandering warrior called Drifter. As Drifter, you must collect many forgotten relics in this world. While this world looks visually gorgeous it’s equally terrifying. Everyone in this world has succumbed or fallen to a menacing disease, including Drifter. While collecting artifacts is a staple in this game, you must also help Drifter find a way to recover from his illness, otherwise, it’s game over for you.

The gameplay in Hyper Light Drifter is faster-paced than Tunic’s gameplay. As Drifter, you’ll gain access to a whole slew of abilities that will allow you to deal massive amounts of damage to foes and bosses. The bosses in this game hit hard and feel intimidating. Thankfully, as you progress, you’ll be able to upgrade Drifter’s kit, allowing you to deal massive damage back at them.

Although this game’s 2D graphics may not appeal to everyone, its gameplay, storyline, and world should leave Tunic fans satisfied.
