6ixtynin9 (Thai Drama) – Episode 1 Recap & Review

  Room 6/ 9

6ixtynin9 episode 1 starts with Toom having dinner and heading home. The next day, she gets to work and finds out the boss, Tong, called for an impromptu Zoom meeting with all the staff. He announces that the company is in bad shape, given the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. He further explains that the company needs to lay off 12 workers.

Tong believes it will be hard to decide who will be fired and has left it to fate. He asks the staff to pick a random number, and if he calls out the number, that person is fired. Some of the affected staff faint on the spot; others curse while some quietly leave. As fate would have it, Toom is given the axe. She goes back to her desk and quietly packs her stuff. She heads home and is peeved the elevator is not working.

One of her neighbours notifies her it is out of service. He helps carry her box to her room. He asks for a glass of milk and starts looking around her room when she leaves for the kitchen. He tells Toom he works for IT, and they casually talk, but both seem awkward. He asks for more milk before leaving. As Toom closes her door, the number sign drops and turns to nine.

Meanwhile, Tud and Milli are getting high and feel like they are on top of the world. These two are Toom’s neighbours, but she rarely sees them. Milli says she wants more tattoos, and Tud wonders if she has any space left for more tattoos. Currently, even her face has tattoos. Milli says Johnny Depp’s tattoo inspires her and wants to get a tattoo saying Teddy Forever on her butt.

Teddy is Tud’s English name. Tud is worried about what will happen if they break up, and Milli jokes she will simply date another guy named Teddy.

Elsewhere, we meet Kanchit, who is watching a boxing match. Kanchit rigged the game, and he calls someone to tell him the game went as planned. The other party is happy and reminds  Kanchit of the instructions on how to get the money to him.

After cleaning up, Toom leaves for the supermarket. Initially, she puts lots of stuff in her trolley but remembers she got fired and returns most things.  She heads home, and the reality of losing her job hits her. She contemplates suicide, draws out her gun, and plays Russian roulette. For a moment, we thought she blew her brains out! Thank God, it was just a nightmare.

She is awoken from her sleep by a call, which turns out to be a pervert watching porn and getting off. Disgusting! With nowhere to go, Toom makes some tea and watches the ongoing protests on TV. She later showers and misses someone knocking on her door three times.

As she sets about organising her house, she sees a package outside her door. She drags it into her house and goes to throw out the trash. She returns, corrects the number sign on her door and then opens the package.

She is shocked to see the money and checks if anyone is spying on her. She sees no one and decides to close the package and return it to her doorstep. She remains on standby, waiting to see who will show up and take the package. Tud trips over it, and when Toom opens her door, he notifies her she has a package. Tud and Milli are on their way to M, who is their tattoo artist. M also lives in the same building.

Toom takes the package and calls her friend, Fon. She poses a hypothetical question about what she would do if someone left a million bucks on her door. Fon thinks it is best to leave the money where she found it and wonders why Toom is thinking about such things. After the call, there is a knock on the door and two men asking if she saw a package left at her door. Toom insists she has not seen a package and hurriedly closes the door. She quickly runs to hide the man as the two men barge into her room.

One man slaps her and warns her; the other searches the apartment. The first guy, Bum, heads to the toilet to relieve himself. Toom uses this opportunity to attack the other guy and instantly kills him. When Bum sees this, he rains slaps on Toom, and she struggles to defend herself. Their fight continues, and Toom falls on the bed while Bum chokes her. She reaches out for the knife she used to open the package and stabs Bum to death.

Soon after, the landline phone in her apartment starts to ring. Toom picks it up, and once again, it is the pervert. She is still in shock since she just killed two people. She quietly closes her door and the number sign droops again from six to nine.
