Episode 5
Episode 5 of 4Minutes begins with Title partying in a club. A girl drugs him and once he passes out, Tonkla arrives and pays the girl.
At present, Tyme and Great are still at the random hotel. Tyme plays the guitar for Great and shares that if his parents hadn’t been killed, he would have been a musician.
Great asks if Tyme is sure the Sriwats are responsible for his parents’ deaths and the latter is upset. Tyme explains that this is why he is looking for evidence, so people believe him. So far, all he has is his mom’s diary in which she had written that she had invested in the Sriwat cargo service. However, the company used the money for their gambling operations. To shut up Tyme’s parents, the Sriwats sent thugs to harass them and they were finally killed.
As for Nan, Samarn once brings her to the hospital and claims she has appendicitis. However, Tyme realises that it is an ectopic pregnancy. He also notices that Samarn is wearing the Sriwats uniform and offers to help Nan. Initially, she refuses him and we see her return to the gambling department.
She feels responsible for her hometown friend, Mon who is stuck in the same gig because of her. And like Nan, Samarn gets Mon pregnant as well. But one day, he beats Mon till she has a miscarriage and dies. Nan is enraged and takes up Tyme’s offer to destroy the Sriwats.
At present, Great asks for time to think of a better solution. Tyme almost refuses as he has nothing to lose but Great reminds him of his grandmother. And while Great does care for his parents, he also cares for Tyme. The doctor is conflicted but agrees.
Meanwhile, Samarn informs Korn about Great rescuing Nan. The thug wants to tell Mr. Sriwat instantly but Korn orders him not to till he speaks to Great himself.
Unfortunately, Samarn goes behind his back and tells the Sriwats. Mr. Sriwat orders Samarn to find Nan’s accomplice while Mrs. Sriwat tries to call her son. Great’s phone is unavailable and Mr. Sriwat scolds her for not keeping her son in check. She reminds him that Great is also his son and storms off.
As for Great, he is busy dropping Tyme at the hospital. Tyme warns him to be careful but Great is confident that his family won’t hurt him. As Tyme heads inside, he thinks someone is following him but it just happens to be Den who teases him for disappearing for a boy. But once both of them part ways, we see that a Sriwat thug is indeed following Tyme.
Great is on his way to his condo when he is stopped by Korn. He tells Great to look the other away if he cannot handle the illegal activities. Great refuses and Korn declares that he cannot guarantee his safety. An angry Great heads in and is shocked that his clock has now changed to 11:03.
Meanwhile, Tyme comes home to see that Mr. Sriwat and his guards have surrounded his grandmother. Mr. Sriwat tells him to stay away from Great and also give up his revenge. In return, he will give him 5 million. Tyme is conflicted but on seeing his scared grandmother, he gives in. Alone, he looks heartbroken and wants to explain, but his grandmother simply comforts him.
Tyme then visits Nan in the hospital and asks about the documents. Turns out, she never sent him but backed it up to a cloud. He tells her to delete them and she realises that he has been paid off. Once he leaves, she borrows a nurse’s phone and posts the documents to expose Sriwat’s gambling operations.
This is all over the news as we see the car crash victim, Manee watching the TV. She starts smiling as she looks at her dead son’s photos. This confirms that the debt he incurred was because of the Sriwats.
Meanwhile, the Sriwats blame Korn for Nan’s exposé. When he reminds them that Great is responsible, Mrs. Sriwat blames him for not keeping Great in check. He lashes back at his stepmother which has Mr. Sriwat slapping Korn.
Korn’s troubles are far from over as Fasai visits him and states that her father can fix everything. But in return, Korn needs to marry her and drop Tonkla. He tries to leave but she points out that he has no other option. A bunch of emotions pass through him before he kisses her hand.
Then we have Manee visiting a temple to have her fortune read. She gets the #4 card which means the separation of loved ones. She gives the priest all her savings and we see that the temple is a front for assassins.
Elsewhere, Great is surprised that Korn has blocked him and Tyme is unreachable. He confronts his parents and believes they have done something to Tyme. He also tells his father to take responsibility for all the deaths he has caused. Mr. Sriwat points out that Great has been able to live a comfortable life because of the company’s dealings and he should be grateful. Great doesn’t want anything to do with his father anymore and leaves.
Mrs. Sriwat runs after Great and tries to get him to apologise to his father. He refuses and calls her out for bossing him around. However, Mrs. Sriwat reveals that everything she has done is for his sake or he would have been the mistress’ kid, hiding and living a sorry life. She begs him one last time to patch things up with Sriwat but Great leaves.
As he is about to drive off, he notices the temple assassin. He goes back in time to 4 minutes ago and steps in front of the bullet when the assassin shoots. He is shot in the stomach and his mother catches him as he falls. He tells her to run but she doesn’t and the assassin shoots her in the head.
It cuts to Den’s research on cardiac arrests and how the brain can function for 4 minutes without oxygen. During that time, some patients can relive their lives. They may even see certain memories which is what Great sees every time he thinks he has a vision. This has the patient believing that they have supernatural powers to fix past mistakes. The patient will also experience the pain that they are feeling in real life.
As Great’s eyes close, we see him going back in time to the day of the exam when he ran over Manee. We also see scenes of Tyme and Great that are yet to happen, suggesting that they are Great’s experiences from the real world.
Den and Nurse Bee are bickering at the hospital when Great is brought into the ER. Den recognises him and calls Tyme who is currently hiding in his aunt’s home with his grandmother. He tells him that Great is heavily injured and hangs up as he is called to assess the situation. Tyme’s grandmother wishes him good luck and he rushes out.
At the end of 4Minutes Episode 5, we see that Tyme is wearing the same shirt in which he is shot at the beginning of Episode 1 while a patient, who is most likely Great, flatlines in the hospital at 11PM.
The Episode Review
What did we just watch? The more we believe we are closer to the answers, this show adds a couple more complicated plot twists as seen with that 4Minutes Episode 5 ending. But some things finally make sense – all the events from the exam day to the temple assassin all seem to be happening in Great’s mind as he is reliving his past. The visions he sees are probably what went down in real life such as running over Manee and letting Title kill Dome — regrets that he hopes to fix.
This also explains why Great and Tyme suddenly fall for each other; it is because they are already lovers in real life. We do wonder how Tonkla and his ability to see and hear the dead figures into all this.
Oh, and we have to talk about the acting in this episode from established actors to the newbies since they all did so well. Was rent due or something? Because these guys were acting their hearts out in every single scene. Our favourite scene in this chapter without a doubt is the one where Tyme wants to apologise to his grandmother but instead of talking, they convey their emotions via their eyes. Nan’s sadness and Manee’s deranged smile are a close second.
