Staring in the Abyss
Episode 4 of 1992 begins with the aftermath of the explosion. Richi, Amparo and Robledo race to the scene, where they find Victoria is still alive. He’s obviously in a rough way though, and he’s rushed to hospital. Rosa is also rushed there too, and despite the bomb blowing up in her face, it would appear she could still be alive.
At the hospital, the trio speak to Victoria and bring up how Jose could be the one behind everything. Victoria is eventually discharged and taken back home and Richi encourages him to lay low and keep hidden. He hands over his number for the time being, and decides to investigate this further and figure out what they may be missing.
Well, the ransom note appears to have originated from Miami so Richi jets off there. As for Robledo, he has another suit to handle, this coming in the form of Carmen. She does her homework and figures out the boot prints on the ground are linked back to a pair from 1968. She heads home and continues to do some research, trying to find this killer.
Amparo goes with Richi to Miami, which is probably for the best as he suffers badly with anxiety. As they sit together, holding hands (for support), Amparo talks about how Alvaro and her had an argument the night before he died. It would appear that he may have been having an affair. He told her for years that he went to his brother’s to play poker but in reality, he didn’t. Sher suspects the worst and believes it’s another woman.
Richi reveals the truth and brings up that Alvaro was actually at Alcoholics Anonymous, and he went for years. It appears he was keeping all of this a secret from her. Quite why he couldn’t confide in this wife though is still unknown. Anyway, the pair touch down without any issues but then the next scene, they’re in the middle of a hurricane.
The pair end up stuck in Miami and, more specifically, a bad motel with bloodstains on the rug. Without a choice, they decide to board up the windows and have a drink. This eventually leads to the pair getting absolutely plastered.
Amparo is scared and Richi ends up comforting her through the night. After some kissing and spooning, they make it through the night and eventually get dressed, ready to go after Jose.
Instead of Jose though, they find his wife, who’s out tending to crocs. She claims Jose died and even shows off a death certificate too. As for Robledo, he arrives to speak to Rosa at the hospital. She’s awake but clearly in a rough way. Rosa claims she saw nothing and even takes responsibility for the bombing herself. However, she soon goes into shock, causing the doctors to do their work.
Through all of this, the killer shows up at the hospital and confronts Rosa, who’s by herself again. She pleads with him to do this and sobbing, he grabs a pillow and kills her. When Robledo finds out, he races after the killer, who tries to scarper on a motorbike.
A big chase then ensues, leading to the top of a building. The killer throws Robledo all the way down to the ground below where he’s somehow still alive. In fact, Robledo calls Richi and tries to explain where he is. Unfortunately, the killer grabs him and drags the guy into his lair.
The Episode Review
So 1992 is starting to get into farcical waters here, as Robledo survives a fatal fall off that tower all the way down to the ground. Not only that, but he’s not even broken his back given he’s able to grab his phone and make a call.
As for the burned killer, his story is still unknown, although I’m sure we’ll find out in the final two episodes. The story here though is so cliched and as predicted early on, Amparo and Richi do end up hooking up. All of this now turns to how Robledo is going to survive this ordeal, and quite who is going to come out of this in one piece. Thankfully we don’t have too long to find out!
