Seville Is Like Dreaming Of Heaven
Episode 3 of 1992 begins with Richi frantically calling Amparo and trying to get through to her. However, Richi is still suffering from the ghosts of the past, including seeing a bloody disfigured Alvaro just casually riding alongside him.
At the station, Richi gets a cab while Amparo’s body washes up on shore. A couple of kids find her and eventually call in the authorities, who rush Amparo to the hospital. She’s clearly freezing, but after a couple of injections, she’s right as rain.
Amparo grabs her stuff and leaves. She’s pretty incredulous over the fact the kids have stolen her money but she gets herself fixed up all the same and heads out.
After trading her watch for a new phone with a tech guy, it appears Amparo’s SIM card is absolutely fine and she hurriedly rings Richi and gets herself some shoes too. She knows that they need to meet but before that, she meets Mr Victoria, the CEO from before.
Victoria admits that all of these killings are being kept under wraps, and part of that comes from the Minister. He’s making a bid to be the next PM and he certainly doesn’t want any of this tarnishing his reputation. It would appear the man has some serious skeletons in his closet
Mr Victoria reveals that he too is being blackmailed, with a message from someone demanding 3 million euros. If he doesn’t pay, then “fire will reveal the truth”.
All of this stems from the Expo. Here, Domingo Granjero was already a well-known developer, while Jose was a commissioner and Valcarcel was the boss. The latter’s role was to divide up the profits. Esteban Palacias was in charge of investments and marketing, while Victoria was an aide to the office. They planned to launch a replica of the Nau Victoria, an old ship, but an explosion changed everything.
The mascot on the ship ended up falling into the water, and although he was okay, the story here is that the whole stunt was sabotaged. A few days later, they ended up with a ransom note and they called in the Minister to help.
Despite some sweet talking and a lavish dinner, they’re left on their own. Unable to pay the ransom, an explosion ended up rocking the Expo. The next day the group received another letter, asking for even more money.
This time, they organize a coup with the minister to try and capture the ransom but the operation goes completely awry. What should have been a simple transaction turns into chaos when a homeless man starts grabbing black bags from the bin. The same bin where the ransom money is located.
Well, after a gunshot goes off, the crowd scarpers and through it all, the money is taken and they slip away into the night never to be heard from again… until now. We still don’t know why the killer is targeting these people or what happened in the past to cause this, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon!
Afterwards, Amparo and Richi meet with Victoria, joined by Robledo. They discuss the best way of catching this killer, and eventually search through the archives to find some clues. As for our killer, he goes full-on Freddy and has a latex bath, gets himself all fresh and oiled up before posing as one of the Men in Black.
Meanwhile, Amparo finds a clue. It turns out the security is light on every day that the killings have taken place. This could well be that everything here is one big play and the authorities are in on it. That’s what Richi is thinking and that story about the briefcase of money? Maybe the briefcase was always empty.
The man in charge of the security detail is a guy called Jose Luis Martinez Romeu, and he could well be the clue to solving this case and blowing it wide open. Maybe those are a bad choice of words though, as Rosa follows our killer up to Victoria’s office, which is completely unguarded. She notices the Curro toy on the seat and before she can even finish her scream, the room blows up.
The Episode Review
So the case is starting to open up a bit here and it would appear that this Jose character may actually be behind some of this, given he looks pretty similar to our Freddy Kreuger looking villain. And what is up with the number of shots of him getting fixed up in a latex bath and oiling himself up? Did we really need to see all of this?
If we’re going the sympathetic villain route then 1992 isn’t doing a particularly great job at it, and the ending only exemplifies those issues, given the one person who appeared to be in collusion with him – the cleaner – is killed.
Quite how Amparo and Richi are going to come out of this in one piece is anyone’s guess but one thing’s for sure – this is far from over.
