Hunter X Hunter (2011)
Similarities – Action, Themes, Characters
Hunter X Hunter (2011) and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is wonderful anime remakes. They feature scenes not found in the original adaptations and feel like faithful adaptations of their beloved source material. Both shows offer wonderful fights, well-rounded characters, and excellent arcs that’ll pull you into their worlds.
In Hunter X Hunter, we follow Gon Freecss. He’s a young boy whose determined to reunite with his father Ging. To do so, Gon sets off on a journey to become a formidable hunter. He won’t be alone as he’ll meet like-minded and skillful individuals who’ll assist him on his quest. Like other adventurous tales, Gon must triumph over many strong enemies who’ll stop at nothing to defeat him.
This series carries strong depth and features similar themes regarding friendship and determination. Each story arc feels better than the previous and carries different messages that’ll leave a great impact on viewers. Give this a watch if you’re looking for a great adventurous anime to watch.
D.Gray-Man

D.Gray-Man and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is dark shonen anime. Both worlds contain horrid environments, well-developed characters, and gripping storylines. D.Gray-Man’s cast has distinct supernatural powers that help them stand out and personalities that’ll resonate with many viewers.
This story centers around Allen Walker. He’s a boy that went through three years of training under an elite sergeant named General Cross. Cross sends Allen to the Black Order, a group determined to defeat the anime’s main antagonist, the Millenium Earl. Earl has inserted the dead’s souls inside his “Akuma” weapons.
When Allen arrives at the Black Order, he becomes an exorcist. He receives an Anti-Akuma weapon arm and a cursed eye that helps him see souls inside the Akuma weapons. With help from other exorcists, Allen plans to foil Earl’s world-ending plan. Despite its dark aesthetic, D.Gray-Man offers some lighthearted elements to avoid feeling like a downer. If you’re looking for darker shonen works, this one’s worth watching.
Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is a popular modern-era anime series. This anime features an astonishing feudal Japanese setting that harbors excellent swordsmen and powerful demons. This show features common shonen tropes from call-out attacks to unique power systems. Its adventurous atmosphere echoes that of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
The series’s protagonists Tanjiro and Nezuko are siblings like Edward and Alphonse. They both receive adequate screen time, allowing viewers to grow attached to their characters. While both shows harbor excellent fights and visuals, Demon Slayer has the upper hand. The fights in this series are jaw-dropping and mesmerizing to the eye.

Rin doesn’t adore his real father and develops a vendetta against his demonic origins. He embarks on a quest to slay the entity that gave him life and his abilities. This anime follows Lelouch vi Britannia, a student who gets roped into the war between Japanese refugees and Britannia’s Empire. Before Britannian troops could kill him, he receives a supernatural power from a green-haired woman named C.C. She grants him the Geass, which allows Lelouch to command anyone to do as he pleases as long as he makes eye contact with them.
With this newfound power, Lelouch seeks vengeance on the Britannian Empire’s ruler for the cruelties he put him and his sister through. It’s an intense anime that’ll leave you on the edge of your seat multiple times. Give it a shot when you have the time.
Baccano
Similarities – Action & Mystery
Baccano is an intruiging anime series with a unique plot structure. This show is split into multiple tales and follows several protagonists who must solve several mysteries pertaining to their lifestyles. Despite being resolved by each chapter’s end, fans will enjoy coming up with theories before they conclude.
Some stories may require several rewatches for you to gain a genuine understanding of them. The stories do intertwine, giving light to Baccano’s overarching mystery. The show features some incredible action scenes that are on par with the well-choreographed bouts found in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. With a hint of comedy, this is a crime series that’s worth your time.
Dororo

Dororo is a fabulous samurai anime with great adventurous aspects. In it, we follow Hyakkimaru whose on a path of vengeance. His journey won’t be a lonely one, as he’ll be joined by his friend Dororo. Both characters look out for each other and display wonderful chemistry like Edward and Alphonse.
The demons Hyakkimaru encounters and fights are as merciless as him. They also have interesting designs that mesh well with the anime’s gloomy, Japanese setting. The show’s visuals are immaculate and fans will enjoy pinpointing textures and landscapes that stand out. While the series can be extremely violent, it offers some atmospheric imagery and situations.

In it, we follow Dr. Kenzou Tenma, who chose to save a child’s life over his town’s mayor. The child’s named Johan Liebert and goes on to become a heinous serial killer who commits numerous murders. Therefore, we examine Kenzou’s quest to stop Johan from murdering people to make amends for his past mistake.
This is one of those shows that’ll leave you amazed by its incredible storytelling and world-building aspects. Each character receives excellent depth and development, even those who only appear in one episode. It contains light action and slow pacing, so it isn’t a series many people will adore. However, if you adored the dark elements of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and love crime thrillers, this one will satisfy you.
Soul Eater
Similarities – Characters & Gore
Soul Eater is a colorful anime that’s not as well-known to modern audiences. It offers a unique art style, great comedy, and fun characters. Like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, this anime offers some stellar mystery components and its cast can find themselves in tense situations. Both series contain identical humor from witty jokes, exaggerated facial expressions, and amusing slapstick.
The characters fight numerous villains who differ in appearance, ability, and personality. The fights can appear slightly over-the-top and contain great stunts that’ll get you excited.
