This one leans a little heavily on both the deadly virus and medical thriller aspect of the story. The story follows Brian Murphy and his family as they try to find normalcy during the Covid-19 pandemic. But this takes a harrowing turn when his wife, Emma, falls ill with flu-like symptoms. Rushed to the hospital, Emma is diagnosed with the deadly eastern equine encephalitis, a mosquito-borne viral disease.
To Brian’s horror, their young daughter begins exhibiting similar symptoms. As Emma fights for her life, Brian is hit with an exorbitant hospital bill and the insurance company’s refusal to cover the costs due to loopholes. Determined to seek justice and take down the callous healthcare system exploiting the sick, it’s a race against time to protect his loved ones and expose the predatory practices targeting his family and countless others.
Virus Thirteen by Joshua Alan Parry
This gripping thriller combines a sci-fi medical thriller with contagious suspense. Virtus Thirteen follows James Logan and his wife Linda, who are scientists are a biotech company. This one is more of a biological thriller than a medical thriller but we’ll let this one slide in because if you liked the medical disaster movie Outbreak (1995) then you could be in for a wild ride with this one. Containment begins as a gruesome tick-borne virus emerges near a major U.S. city, government epidemiologist Mariah Rossi and covert CIA agent Curt Kennedy team up to trace the outbreak back to an extremist group in Southeast Asia. Their investigation takes them on a perilous journey from the jungles of the Philippines to the coral reefs near Malaysian Borneo and across London and America.
Patient Zero by Fritz Galt
How do you combat a deadly virus that seems to come out of nowhere? You find Patient Zero. In Fritz Gait’s Patient Zero, you are taken into the heart of a catastrophic pandemic as disease detectives and the medical community work quickly to try and uncover the identity of Patient Zero.
