10 Best Erotic Thriller Movies | TheReviewGeek Recommends

Films that balance the heat with loads of suspense and thrill are something else on the entertainment scale. These are the films that anyone will have a hard time getting out of their mind. From the classic Basic Instinct to the ambiguous ending of Mulholland Drive, these tier 1 erotic thrillers will make sure you’re taken care of. The films on this list aren’t just steamy; they’re also thrilling too.

Oh and do be sure to comment below and let us know your favourite erotic thriller!

Basic Instinct (1992)

We begin the list with the most obvious choice: Basic Instinct, where Michael Douglas takes on Nick Curran. He’s on a case investigating a murder that seems to be copied from a novel written by Catherine Tramell. Catherine is rich and shrewd, oozing confidence and sensuality.

She starts this flirtatious game with Nick, using her beauty to mess with his head and keep things from finding the real killer. Basic Instinct has some pretty bold and controversial scenes, especially the one everyone talks about – the infamous interrogation scene where Tramell uncrosses her legs, and we see she’s wearing no underwear.

The Last Seduction (1994)

The Last Seduction has all the ingredients for a good erotic thriller: drugs, betrayal, and, obviously, sex. Linda Fiorentino fills the shoes of Bridget Gregory, one cunning and devious femme fatale. She convinces her husband, Clay, to pull off a heist and nab some drug money.

But after they get the cash, Bridget double-crosses Clay and takes off with the loot. She anchors in a small town, changes her identity, and starts giving signs to a local guy named Mike Swale.

Fatal Attraction (1987)

Dan Gallagher is a suit-wearing lawyer whose life hits a rough terrain after a weekend rendezvous with Alex Forrest at a party. What starts as a chill fling spirals into a full-blown nightmare as Alex cranks up the crazy dial.

Dan is desperately trying to patch things up with his on-screen wife, Anne Archer, and breaks it off with Alex, inviting a whirlwind of problems his way. As the story goes on, you start to see Bridget’s true colors. She’s not just cunning; she’s downright manipulative and dangerous.

Mulholland Drive (2001)

Mulholland Drive is one of the most sexual and confusing films ever made. We follow Betty Elms, a starry-eyed aspiring actress landing in the City of Angels. Things get crazy when she crosses paths with an amnesia-stricken woman. Betty takes it upon herself to crack the case and figure out who this mystery woman is.

If you’ve watched it before, you’d know that, like all of Fincher’s films, this one, too, doesn’t play by the rules and confuses us between what’s real and what’s a hallucination. As a cherry on top, the film debunks the shady secrets of Tinseltown, where dreams and reality collide.

Wild Things (1998)

Wild Things made waves thanks to its plot twists, nail-biting suspense, and a sprinkle of, well, let’s call it mature content. Even though it kind of looks like a steamy film, Wild Things is a crime thriller at its core.

The plot centers on two teenagers, Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards) and Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell), who reproach their high school guidance teacher, Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon), for sexual assault. It becomes clear as the inquiry continues that the claims are part of a sophisticated plan to get huge compensation.

365 Days (2020)

Laura Biel plans to spend her vacation by soaking in the Sicilian sun, but since then things have gone according to plans. Laura’s vacation is cut short when Michele Morrone, the wealthy Italian gangster, kidnaps her and says she’s the girl he has been waiting for all his life.

Massimo even gives her 365 days to fall head over heels for him. Sometimes, the story isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but the film has nailed its sex scenes. It’s well-choreographed, and there are two more parts, so you won’t be running out of the steamy stuff anytime soon.

Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)

This book-to-screen adaptation follows Anastasia Steele, who finds herself in the world of Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey while chasing a college scoop. Love blooms between them, and they start looking for excuses to see one another.

Things get interesting when we learn Christian is into BDSM (don’t know, look it up) and even offers Laura a contract to sign if they’re to take their love life to the bedsheets. If you believed it to be an average rich guy poor girl love story, this ain’t it, but then again, who said love ever follows a script?

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981)

In The Postman Always Rings Twice, Jack Nicholson is Frank Chambers, a wandering soul who lands a job at a roadside diner owned by Cora Papadakis and her possessive spouse, John Colicos’ Nick. Sparks fly faster than a grease fire in the kitchen as Frank and Cora are involved in a steamy affair.

Plot twist: – the pair cook up a plan to murder Nick to get him out of their way. The plan is put into motion, and it works, but what happens next derails their entire plan. Just a heads up, this film isn’t for everyone. Viewer discretion is advised because it packs tones of steamy sex scenes that might not be suitable for all audiences.

American Gigolo (1980)

This film is as interesting as it is thrilling. We meet Julian Kaye, the suave gigolo with a knack for catering to the elite ladies of Los Angeles. This sexual adventure hits a road bump when he’s set up for a murder he didn’t do, forcing him to do whatever is necessary to get out of this pothole.

The more Kaye digs into things, the more complicated and knotted the situation gets; danger and betrayal lurk around every corner, making this not just a job hazard but a full-blown Hollywood thriller.

You Get Me (2017)

In this film, a high school student who goes by the name Tyler deals with a messy breakup with his girlfriend, Alison. One night, he meets a mysterious and beautiful girl, Holly, Bella Thorne. They have a pretty intense night together, but when Tyler goes back to school, he finds out Holly has transferred there and is dead set on being a part of his life.

As things progress, Holly’s obsession takes a dangerous turn, putting both Tyler and those around him at risk. You Get Me has taken some heat for leaning heavily on clichés and predictable plot twists that are often linked with the genre, but it’s still an exciting one-time watch.
