It has been a hectic year for BL lovers as we enjoyed captivating stories from Thailand. We have had a whirlwind year, from falling in love with questionable red flags like Joker and Ming to cute puppet love stories.
Of course, the genuine dilemma is choosing our top ten Thai Bl shows, so forgive us if we left out your favourite shows. At the end of the day, as long as you enjoyed the show, it is all good. Without further ado, here is our list for the best Thai BL series for 2024.
#10 – 4 Minutes
The near cancellation of 4 minutes crushed many fans. Thankfully, Jes stepped up to fill in the role of Tyme and the rest, as they say, was history. Although it has a complicated storyline that is more likely to stress than entertain you, 4 minutes is still a good watch.
Once you untangle the complex web of timelines and motivations of the characters, the narrative unfolds more smoothly
#9 – Wandee Good day
At some point in our lives, we have all had one-sided crushes that ended badly. However, unlike Dr Wandee, we didn’t have a good-looking boxer to make us forget our heartache. Wandee Goodday is a relatable, easygoing love story.
As much as it is predictable, it still feels new even with all the cliches thanks to the story’s pacing and the chemistry between the leads.
#8 – Spare Me Your Mercy
Although this show just dropped in November, its interesting plot and the agonising moral dilemma of the characters elevated Spare Me Your Mercy to a masterpiece. This is one of the shows that will have you questioning and gauging your moral compass.
It has a lot of complexity and is a reminder that sometimes love comes at a huge compromise. Be ready to grab a few tissues if you have yet to watch this one.
#7 – Century of Love
Definitely, the most underrated BL of 2024, this supernatural, romance gem gave us a lot of funny moments, and some tears and proved that Daou and Offroad are not one-hit wonders. The chemistry, the cinematography and the storyline made this one BL memorable and fun.
#6 – We Are
We love a good high school drama and GMMTV gave us one of the best this year. Starring some of their biggest talents, We Are was a sweet, coming-of-age romance story following a friend group in a university.
From the chaotic misunderstandings, accepting one’s sexuality and building long-standing friendships, We Are was an entertaining watch.
#5 – This Love Doesn’t Have Long Beans
SailubPon’s acting and intense chemistry brought this show to a new level. This was an underrated gem that many BL lovers ignored. If you have not watched this show, please do. They really did cook, no pun intended!
Garfield and Benz also surprised us with how well they hit it off on-screen, and we look forward to seeing them in more projects.
#4 – Only Boo
This is one show you go into without expectations and completely fall in love with it. Only Boo was a pleasant surprise and had us hooked on the cute vibes. Sadly, such shows get swallowed up by overrated shows.
One of the things that struck us was the heartwarming storyline and the light touches that were added to balance the heavy themes in the show. Although the acting is a bit wanting, from rookie actors, this was a good start. Had GMMTV invested more in the show, it wouldn’t have been lost in the obscurity of other shows.
#3 – Heart Killers
This was one of the most anticipated GMMTV series and we were not disappointed. We had faith in Khaotung to deliver and, to be honest, JoongDunk outdid themselves in this one. Even though the series is still ongoing, it deserves a place on this list.
Heart Killers has given us a reason to smile every Wednesday since November, and we can’t wait to see the fate of the two brothers.
Whether it is the dancing number, the way Bison says Fadel’s name or Kant’s tattoos, we are hooked. Of course, we also love it for the plot!
#2 – Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart
This one had us at YinWar. From the moment they teased this show, we knew we were in for a wild ride. YinWar self-producing this show was among the best things that happened in the Thai BL industry in 2024.
Their top-tier chemistry, great, moving plot, and talented supporting cast were some of the winning factors in this crime romance thriller. The show allowed Yin and War to show us a different side of themselves. Gone were the school uniforms, and in came the tattoos, ridiculous costumes, and great fighting scenes.
#1 – My Stand-in
Back in April, Ming had us frustrated by how he was treating our good-hearted pookie Joe. You would think Joe would learn his lesson after dying and being reincarnated, but you would be underestimating the power of love.
Of course, Ming magically changed, and losing Joe made him a better man in the end. If angst, yearning, and second chances are the recipe for a good drama, then My Stand-in perfectly nailed this.
The amazing acting from the leads and their goofy chemistry added more depth to this show. It is therefore no surprise why it is our favourite BL this year.
So there we have it! Our list of the best Thai BLs that released in 2024. Do you agree with our picks? Think another should have made the list? Let us know in the comments below!
I’m with you 100% on this. My Stand-In was amazing! It will stick with me for a long time :)
